VEGETARIANS & VEGANS BE WARNED!!!! Went here this past Saturday evening for my mom's birthday at her request. She and my dad had met friends here a few weeks ago for a business meeting and she wanted to go back. She had told me that prior to the first visit she had called to find out if they had vegetarian options and was glad they did and also asked if they had beans that were free if Lard because culturally refried beans often do. She was assured that both the refried beans and the black beans offered were made without Lard and were okay for vegetarians.
On our visit I selected spinach and mushroom enchiladas - that said they came with rice and beans and by habit I asked the server to confirm for me that the beans were okay - I said I assume if they are offered with an item on the vegetarian menu that they must be - she was honest and said she didn't know for certain, but that she would go check. When she returned she said the people in the kitchen did say they use Lard in BOTH the refried beans AND the Black Beans! Get this... these beans are also the protein in the VEGAN BURRITO BOWL on the vegetarian menu!!!! So the vegan bowl leaves out cheese and sour cream but includes beans with Lard in them!
We asked to see the manager - who came out and said the info was wrong he said he used to order for the kitchen and he only every ordered a "margarine" type product to use in the beans NOT Lard - he never ordered Lard! He said that he would go confirm..... But when he came back - the answer was - they WERE using Lard in all of the beans offered!
How then are the beans then in ANY WAY VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN?!?! IF YOU HAVE EATEN THERE THINKING YOU'VE GOTTEN VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN REFRIED OR BLACK BEANS YOU DID NOT! YOU GOT LARD BEANS.
We are vegetarian for health and culture - we do not care what anyone else eats - we do our best to not be a pain and are grateful when we see vegetarian options on the menu. But we do not appreciate being LIED TO! If I ask the question - be honest!
My mom was heartbroken - she asked to go back because she liked that they had vegetarian options so ordering didn't mean asking for modifications.... She felt and was deceived from the first visit too - she would have NEVER GONE THE FIRST TIME!
We let them know how bad and dangerous it was to lie about what was in the food. We let them know we were disgusted by the deception and that my mom's birthday was ruined. And they STILL HAD THE GALL TO BRING THE CHECK!!
We aren't bad people we paid - for a BEYOND disappointing & disgusting experience at a restaurant that is outright LYING about the contents of their food to people who choose not to eat certain things. It's wrong and frankly dangerous!!
Take your money where they tell the truth if you want to maintain your lifestyle choices - this place doesn't know how to tell the truth. If you are medically at risk of consuming certain ingredients DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING YOUR TOLD AT THIS RESTAURANT! AVOID...

Read moreI recently visited El Patron, and while there were some standout moments, overall, my experience was a bit of a mixed bag.
First, the atmosphere is lively and colorful, capturing the essence of a traditional Mexican restaurant. The decor is vibrant, and the music added to the festive vibe, making it a nice spot to enjoy a meal with friends or family.
When it comes to the food, we ordered a variety of dishes to share, including tacos, enchiladas, and a queso dip. The tacos were flavorful and well-seasoned, and the fresh salsa was a highlight. However, the enchiladas fell flat—they were a bit bland and lacked the depth I was hoping for. The queso dip was also thinner than expected, which was a bit disappointing.
Service was another area where things could improve. Our server was friendly, but it took quite a while for our food to arrive, and we had to ask for drink refills multiple times. It felt like the restaurant was understaffed during our visit.
On a positive note, the prices are reasonable, and the portion sizes are generous, so you definitely get your money’s worth.
Overall, I think El Patron has potential, but there are definitely areas that need improvement. With some tweaks in the kitchen and a bit more attention to service, it could be a standout spot. I may give it another try in the future, but my first experience...
