Arthur's Steakhouse — Restaurant in Addison

Classy, Welcoming Elegance! Our first time here after many years of saying, "We ought to try Arthur’s someday.”

We did, and glad we did so, regretting we did not do this sooner.

With the closing of Mercy Wine bar, finding an elegant setting with attentive, knowledgeable, and fun staff was going to be a big task to endeavor. This task can now be closed-out.

What a treat! We were made to feel like the most important people from Maître D and our server Hamid to the other team members who helped serve, clear, and otherwise make our Arthur’s experience flow seamlessly.

Easy to find location with plenty of parking, including self and valet.

Beautiful landscaping with the right mix of mulch, flowers, green shrubbery, and trees. You walk to the entrance where you have an option of using a traditional door or an older, beautiful wood revolving door. We opted for the revolving door.

The small entry way opens up to a nice sized atrium that is well lit with a Maître D station. Behind the Maître D station is a dimly lit open dining area surrounded by smaller, intimate tables. Also available are quaint private room dining rooms, each with a luxurious red velvet curtain. You can close it, keep it open or find a happy medium.

The decor in the dining room, with a large crystal chandelier as the centerpiece, remains simple, but elegant. Drawing from French and English themes, with a touch of Rome and Russia – it works!

Our evening began with iced water, fresh baked bread, and butter. We then ordered a bottle of Caymus Conundrum Red Blend, a budget friendly, delicious wine. If you want a very good upgrade, the Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon is a true winner.

Next was the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake. There was no need to search for the lump crab in this crab cake. Truly delicious! Right amount of subtle white pepper spice, lemon, butter with generous amounts of crab. All of this pressed together and perfectly pan fried, then placed on top of homemade slaw and drizzled with a touch of Chardonnay sauce. This set this stage for our food experience.

We made our way to the entrees! First was an 8oz. Filet Mignon, cooked medium rare, with garlic mashed and fresh asparagus as the sides. The steak was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. Hearty, flavorful mashed and tender, lightly spiced asparagus.

Also enjoyed was the Pan Seared Fresh Gulf Red Snapper. Again, spiced and cooked on-point. Flaky, flavorful fish that was topped with freshly sauteed shrimp and mushrooms, served with mashed potatoes and French Green Beans as sides. Wonderful!

Finally, we ended the eating portion of our evening with the Grand Marnier Crème Brûlée. For us, this was a new take on the traditional Crème Brûlée, and we enjoyed the hints of orange liquor. We think oven-baked vs. butane torch as we did not taste the butane – thankfully. Nicely done!

When we were done with our delicious meal and dessert, there was a small table already saved for us in the bar/dancing area. Hamid escorted us from the dining room to the bar area and gave us an update on the recent renovations and history of Arthur’s. You will have to visit to get these details first-hand, unless, of course, you are an Arthur's Regular, which there appears to be quite a few.

We carried our dinner wine glasses with us to savor the final sips and enjoy the live, energetic 2-piece band that was playing a very good selection of Yacht Rock tunes. Curious about the outside area, we took a peek and a seat on the outside patio. If it were not for the humidity and the great music coming from inside, we would have sat a bit longer outside.

Our time at Arthur’s last night was hands down the worst dining experience everyone in my party has ever had. The service was in line with (or worse than) what you’d expect from an apathetic teenager at their first fast food job. We were given one wine list for 6 people to review for 10 minutes and one person at my table ended up having to go get their own recommendations for beer from the bar because the sever ignored their request for a bar menu over and over. They finally brought the wrong bottle of wine and didn’t return with the correct one for another 10 minutes while we sat there with nothing to snack on or drink (just butter on the table no bread). One of my guests asked to speak with the manager, so we could hopefully get in front of what seemed like a poor experience for a place of this ‘caliber’. They never once came by the table. This was a birthday dinner for two of our party who both ordered the same ribeye. At 7 pm on a Saturday we were informed they only had one left so someone had to choose something else. When the 22 oz ribeye did come out, my guest let them know they brought the wrong steak. They served them a long paper thin cut of meat and tried to call it 22 oz. Upon hearing this the waiter proceeded to argue rather than inform the chef. At this point a passing by waiter got involved and offered to bring something else. So now everyone had their food and my birthday guest had to wait for another steak. It was fortunate it worked out this way because they mixed up the temperature for the two guests who ordered the steaks to begin with. Asked to speak with a manager again, spoke to someone standing around in a suit who we assumed was a manager, but no one ever came by even the second time. The chef brought out the new steak and tossed it in front of my guest with an indifferent sorry and walked off. Not to mention I ordered a Greek salad with cold cocktail shrimp and it arrived with room temp grilled shrimp like they tried to stick it in the fridge for a minute to cool it down. Before paying I wanted to try to speak with the manager one last time to discuss the experience. He assured me we were being taken care of with soufflés? We had a birthday celebration with multiple desserts planned at someone’s home after dinner, and I pleaded with him not to bring out any dessert. We just wanted to leave. He insisted he would just bring one, and we sat at the table for another 20 minutes for this dessert to come out that no one wanted before they’d bring our check. When it came out they brought a huge soufflé for every person at the table which felt like insult to injury after I begged for no dessert because one of my guests worked hard all day on the desserts for our celebration after. As we were FINALLY leaving. Everyone was so angry someone else in my party hung back to talk to someone about the experience. The hostess disappeared and said she couldn’t find anyone for him to talk to and again no manager showed their face. We thought this was the end and then one of my guests celebrating the birthday realized they didn’t bring the box with the remainder of his meal to take home before we left. He had a steak with a huge bone. This morning he texted the group to say what was in the box was chopped up pieces of meat with sauce like they were trying to cover something from the garbage can. I am just in shock at how terrible last night was and so embarrassed that I invited everyone here. The food wasn’t decent but certainly not worth the level of service. Choose Bob’s or Papa Bros instead.

The only reason this place is getting a star is 1) I can’t leave zero and 2) it’s a beautiful...

Last year I took my mother who is in a nursing home to Arthur's on Christmas Day and we had a wonderful time. We were treated like we were the only two people in the restaurant, so obviously going back for Christmas 2014 was a no brainer. You must have reservations which I had made before Thanksgiving. Upon arriving, with my mother being a year older and a bit weaker, we were greeted with the news that people were staying at their tables longer then they had anticipated and it may be a 30 minute wait. We were invited to wait in the bar. After checking with the hostess, who was very apologetic, she said we could eat in the bar but we opted to wait a little longer. Finally my mother was unable to wait any longer so she said let's just eat in the bar. In the bar was a party of 16 another party of about 12 and a party of 2 who we were told did not have reservations but they set up and took care of them. We still were not getting waited on by the only one waitress who was running back and forth between the tables and the bar as those parties probably drank the restaurant dry. When I went out to ask the manager in a quiet calm voice if he could get some extra help in there he snapped at the hostess to go take our order. I tried to tell him that wasn't the entire problem and he got as close in my face as he could and snapped "I'm dancing as fast as I can. What more do you want?" My heart ached for the waitress and hostess, but my anger with him was even greater. Had my mother been able at that point to walk out we would have left. At the end of our meal he came to our table to apologize which I appreciated but he couldn't just accept the fact they screwed up and we should have been compensated in some way. Instead he went on whining and blaming not being able to get people to work on Christmas Day. To say he went on and on is an understatement. IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE YOUR JOB DON'T OPEN ON CHRISTMAS AND STICK TO YOU MUST HAVE RESERVATIONS. ALL YOU SAW WERE DOLLAR SIGNS FROM THEM. SHAME ON YOU MR. MANAGER. We'll go elsewhere next year where are appreciated. K....
