What a wonderful place! This was probably the best meal I've had in the DFW area. In addition, the service was impeccable and the ambiance lovely. I took my husband here for our 7th wedding anniversary. I was surprised I got us in because I didn't call until 2 days before but the owner was very kind and accommodating. The place is very small and only has 5 tables. We were the third table to arrive but the place had filled by the time we were finishing.
One thing I love about this place is that they have a no tipping policy. That means the prices are a little higher, but you truly do get what you pay for. We were presented with a seasonal table d'hôte menu that offered a few options for each course.
My first course might have been my favorite: a whole sardine served with greens and a spicy remoulade and cucumber tomato salad. The sardine was crispy with just the right salt level and that salad was magic. The remoulade really was spicy, too, but everything was well-balanced. For the salad course I ordered a hearts of palm salad while my husband got a panzanella. Both were delicious. I hate overdressed salads so I was so happy to see how light and carefully dressed my salad course was.
For the main courses they had New Zealand venison in two ways (both were surf and turf dishes) on the menu and we decided to give it a try. My husband got loin medallions over gnocchi with shrimp and I got a tenderloin that was served with langoustines and a Gorgonzola sauce. Okay, so I wasn't sure about combining seafood with Gorgonzola, and I wasn't sure about pairing venison with seafood, but I was happy to be proven incorrect. The sauce was, indeed, a little rich and strong so I didn't use all of it but it was still a really nice pairing with the venison. The venison, in addition, was perfectly cooked. I added a cross section picture so you can see just how perfect. The vegetables that accompanied our meal were vibrant and seasonal and delicious. My only regret is I couldn't quite finish everything because I was too full.
For drinks we shared a bottle of wine (the selection is excellent, by the way) and instead of doing a dessert we opted for a glass of 40-year-old tawny port. It was delicious. After dinner service, the owner, who cooks everything himself with only one sous chef in the kitchen, came and talked with us for a good 15 minutes and he could not have been more delightful. In addition, our server was attentive and polite without ever hovering. The best part was because they only take 5 reservations a night, we never felt rushed because the staff said no one else was coming in so we could be there as long as we wanted. Our reservation was at 6:30 and we were there for over 2 hours enjoying ourselves. All-in-all, I would highly recommend this...
Read moreThis is by far the best experience you will ever have in DFW. I haven't been everywhere, but I clearly try plenty of nice places. I love that when you walk in they know who you are and greet you promptly. Lawrence has been the only waiter there each time I have been and he does an outstanding job. There are only 12 tables total in the whole place. It has a modern but intimate/romantic feel. I honestly like that there is a place in Dallas I can go and not hear kids screaming or be rushed out before I have even finished my dessert because the restaurant would like to seat the next guest. They have oil candles on the table with little flowers. Everything is tastefully decorated and well kept.
The waiter brings us a palate cleanser of champagne and cranberry before taking our order for drinks. He also swiftly brings out some toasted bread and olive oil with parmesan. These items are both compliments of Chef Gorji. We placed our drinks, appetizer and food order promptly there after. I like that we have time to enjoy our appetizer and each other before the Lawrence comes back to take our entre order. They will of coarse accommodate you however you'd like to do things, but I highly suggest taking your time :)
A little side note: leave your cell phone in the car on the night you go. It truly makes it all the more enjoyable for you and everyone else.
We tend to order the hummus at Gorji's because I love the garlic infusion. We've also had the brie and garlic which is incredible as well. I like that both of these apps come out rather quickly. The hummus is delicious blend of chickpeas, oil, garlic and I am sure some additional seasoning.
The entrees are INCREDIBLE! It is so rare to find a perfectly cooked and seasoned steak that is served up so hot and tender. I eat every bite, every time. Delish! Let's not forget about the scrumptious veggies that are served with I believe every meal. The carrots and okra both still have a nice crunch and great flavor. This time I decided to try the poached shrimp with parmesan infused basmati rice. The rice is absolutely amazing. The shrimp were cooked thoroughly and evenly and paired with a zesty sauce that I wanted to dip everything in. Seriously, Gorji I need a bottle of this stuff!
I can't say enough to go try this place! It's incredible. I find it very hard to believe anyone would ever, ever leave this place...
Read moreMy husband and I had the extremely good fortune to attend a birthday dinner for my best friend on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Gorji's is a LOVELY restaurant! It is small, intimate, quiet and has a relaxing modern décor. Even though it is small, the plate glass windows give a wonderful illusion of space. The plants outside make a nice screen and let you feel like you are in a garden area. It is extremely clean as well! The food is, quite frankly, to die for. Chef Gorji is nothing short of a genius. His approach is unique and so very flavorful! His gorgonzola gnocchi is the best I have EVER tasted. All the dishes were perfectly cooked and beautifully plated. The appetizers were a mix of couscous, hummus, grape leaf rolls and homemade pita bread. Light and flavorful but not overpowering. I had a difficult time not eating the entire appetizer! For dinner, I had the salmon and shrimp with mashed potatoes over a bean I did not recognize. I wish I would have double checked to see what it was. What a treat! All the flavors paired so well together and the portions were just right. And oooohhhh those desserts! I had the flourless chocolate cake. I have had flourless chocolate cake many times before but this was the best I have ever had. That cake is dangerous. You will definitely want to have more than one slice if you have the room! His wine selection is fantastic as well! We were served a delicious Tempranillo, I believe a Cabernet Sauvignon, and I had a Chardonnay. I thought the Chardonnay was perfect. Lightly chilled with a lovely blend of oak and that distinctive buttery finish. So yummy. I wish we would have had time to try some of the other bottles! Chef Gorji is such a lovely person as well. He checked on all the guests frequently and made sure the evening was flowing as smoothly as possible. James, his waiter, is a delight! So sweet, funny, considerate and a consummate professional. He made our evening extra special. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough! Dining at Gorji's is a true epicurean delight! If you are lucky enough to get a reservation, don't rush. Enjoy your dinner and all the wonderful flavors that...
