service 4 stars: i had dinner with my daughter last night we sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoy our time only because of the new bartender i think his name is Terelle from NY his personality is engaging, fun and friendly what you'd expect from a bartender. he brought that eastcoast authenticity vibes and mannerisms. not to mention his mixology skills are on point. my daughter ordered an expresso martini from one bartender and it wasn't good, she saw Terelle mixing one for another customer she quickly pointed out to me, that's how an expresso should look (dark in color as its coffee) hers looked more like a milkshake in color. my drink was perfect. all the stars go to Terelle. Atmosphere one star: i was taken aback by the manner of dress by the hostess; my immediate thought thought was wow, this is how the first point of contact is representing your brand. i recommend coaching (this could include expenses for clothes); implement and enforce a dress code especially for the person at the front door. Food: i ordered wings and broccolini both arrived cold, the wings weren't fresh, i had them reheat the broccolini it still came back like warm so i gave up. i wouldn't dine here again, but i would have a drink and good conversation but no food... New Year's eve upstairs was decent, the dj was just ok, the passed hors doeuvres were pitiful you could have left those in the kitchen or passed them straight in the garbage, you had more reserved bottle tables than necessary for Stirr's level of affluence o opineyou aren't quite there i had dinner with my daughter last night we sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoy our time only because of the new bartender i think his name is Terelle from NY his personality is perfect for engaging, fun and laughter. he brought the Northeast authentic vibes and mannerisms. not to mention his mixology skills are on point. my daughter ordered an expresso martini from one bartender and it wasn't good, she saw Terelle mixing one for another customer she quickly pointed out to me that's how an expresso should look (dark in color as its coffee) hers looked more like a milkshake in color. my drink was perfect. all the stars go to Terelle. i was taken back by the style of dress of the hostess it wasn't in line with this type of restaurant or maybe it is. i would recommend so coaching and implement and enforce a dress code especially for the first point of contact. Read moreHost absolutely rude. went there to celebrate my birthday i booked 3 weeks out in advanced I had to call because I had a large party. she booked it told me it only had to be on one card left it at that. 2 days before i get a email saying my reservation was canceled I never got a text conformation or call. i called no answer eight hours later I get a call and they're saying I need to book through their event coordinator which I was never told. The nice guy that I spoke to really helped and booked me even through the circumstances because that was a flaw on theyre end. My reservation got pushed a hour back and i was told i could not be accommodated for my original time. Which caused a lot of people to not make it therefore my reservation was much smaller than originally planned. I then had to wait until 10 people showed up even though I told them the estimated amount of people to show because it was later than originally planned. I waited a hour to be seated maybe more the host absolutely. rude stood here stared at me and my group of friends and was talking with another coworker of hers. We finally get seated. our server being so graceful accommodated us with anything we needed. because my time got pushed back we fell into club hours and not everyone was of age so at the door multiple people were stopped and almost turned away. which again was not our fault because i wasnt supposed to be there at that time anyways. We get our food. Everything's great, but this hostess told the security guard that people of my party were going upstairs, which was not true. My friends went to the bathroom and got waved off by this host to keep walking as if they were going upstairs which they were not very rude. Our server was great through the night, but I was constantly spoken to by the same security guard because the hostess kept claiming we were causing issues in going upstairs, which was not true. I booked for downstairs. I got downstairs and I sat downstairs. We were then told by the same security guard that management would be kicking us out if we got another complaint it was no more than 12 people. Everybody was singing in that entire establishment. so for us to be picked out and continuously picked on by the same host is out of control. The host was absolutely disgusting the entire night constant stares and slick remarks when nothing was done or said to her there is no reason that I had to talk to somebody else before her because her attitude was nasty. We then got kicked out because we were "under age when we were never supposed to originally be there at that time anyways" we were followed out the door which isn't fair on our end I've never had a terrible experience like this at stirr until now. On...
Read moreSummary: Giving it 3 stars bc it wasn't bad, per se, but not the place for us. I took one star for point 1, 1 star for point 2. The rest is too subjective to call myself "right" and don't want to deter others who could have a great experience for something 100% subjective. Personally if I go there again I'd just get appetizers and dinner elsewhere.
-1 Star: The waitress flung my "empty" wine glass downward, getting rose (pink wine) spotted all over the front and side of my brand new dress. When I asked, she said it was condensation from the water pitcher, bc my glass was empty. Cool, no big. Water dries. I saw when I got home ( better lighting) pink spots all over my dress. It was an accident. I got it out, but it was still careless. My $80 dress (graduation gift to myself) would have been ruined with red wine. (Don't fling wine glasses on downward angles.)
-1 star: They need more transparency on the 20% surcharge. In our party of 4. Upstairs, there is a sign near the hostess stand, but there were people standing in front of it when we arrived, so we didn't see it. Neither hostess (up/downstairs) or waitress verbally notified us of this surcharge before we ordered. Found a random $40 charge on our bill. Like what?? (Don't surprise customers with this!)
Ranty tangent: you have to be pretty bad at running a company to need to charge 20% (or very greedy) without explanation. Your bad planning should not be my responsibility. Ask me to bail you out, don't trap me into it. When I asked, they couldn't tell me what the surcharge was for (gratuity or extra fee to the business). So I tip my minimum 20%.
Subjective: I was the only person who (sorta) enjoyed the experience (minus the above). One appetizer and one drink were hits. (We got 4 appetizers, 4 mains, and 4 drinks.
Always get the buffalo egg rolls. Espresso martini for my fellow caffeine addicts. I'd go back for these 2 things and willingly pay for them. (after learning what/why for the surcharge.) ^_^
I liked the atmosphere, it was industrial, open, nice views, good music.. I'm also the type who makes the grocery store an epic quest.
I think for a 300$ tab (after surcharge + tip), it wasn't worth it for us. We spent years in the service industry, so aren't looking to blame anyone for things. Food was ok, appetizers & some drinks were awesome.
A 20% surcharge feels different on a $50 tab than it does a $200 tab, but I think it needs to be verbalized by both hostesses when they seat someone and what it's for, regardless of what they plan to spend.
So for some, it's 100% the vibe. Just not...
