Start with the area this restaurant is in. Happening place with a ton to do and eat. Problem is, not enough parking for all the stuff crammed in the area. If you go Friday or Saturday night, plan on circling for a while.
Tried several dishes. First small dish was the crispy tofu. It was just ok. It's lightly dusted with five spice powder and it just isn't enough. It needed salt, or soy sauce or something. Just too bland.
Second was the duck bao buns. Probably a little pricey for 2 buns, but wanted to try them. They were ok. Most places serve bao buns with some sort of sauce you can either top them with or dip them in. These did not have that and they really needed it. Again, just not enough flavor.
Lastly we tried the bibimbap. This dish was pretty good. Now, we were told by the server that the larger dishes could be shared. If we didn't have the other small dishes first, there was no way with this one. Maybe some of the larger dishes were more than one serving, but if the bibimbap was the only thing I was eating, I could easily finish the whole thing.
Drinks were a bit nuts. The mixed drinks sounded really interesting, but I wasn't in the mood to pay $12 for a drink. Even the sodas and tea were $4, which is a bit much. Order water.
Lastly, the service. Our server was very nice, but never seemed to be around when we needed them. Got our drinks quick, but then had to wait forever to order food. Others brought our food out, so no delay there, but then when we were done for quite a while, we had to wait a long time to pay. The place wasn't packed, so that wasn't it. Seemed the servers were sent all over the place. Outside, inside, etc., so we could never spot ours.
Wasn't a terrible meal, but not a place I'd go out of my...
Read moreWhile the staff was genuinely kind and attentive, our dining experience left much to be desired. We arrived at 7 PM and faced a lengthy 25-30-minute wait for our drinks. Though we ordered three appetizers, we were disappointed with both their taste and timely delivery. The edamame lacked salt and was overly doused in sesame oil, while the green beans were notably bland and stale. There was something wrong with them as if they were cooked with bad batter or merely undercooked. They weren’t sautéed with anything but a few dry tomatoes. I didn’t complain because it wasn’t worth getting the dish remade. In addition, our spring rolls were mistakenly delivered to another table. That was at the 42 minute mark of our dinner. Despite being told they can make some more spring rolls, we ultimately chose to cancel them. When asked to order more food, we declined and asked for our check since it was better to cut our losses than to continue with a poor meal. On the financial side, we found the pricing steep for what we received, totaling $74 for our limited selection, which included a whopping $22 double Jack and Coke and $11 for a small glass of Prosecco. I left a 20% tip, recognizing the waitress wasn't at fault for the kitchen or bar's shortcomings. She was super nice (that was a plus). While I appreciate the good intentions of the staff, I unfortunately cannot recommend this establishment based on our experience. The many positive reviews are puzzling and make me wonder if they stem from their initial soft opening promotions. Everything about this dinner was subpar. I am embarrassed to have taken...
Read moreI came to Hawkers this past Friday on a rainy day so it wasn't as packed when my family and I arrived. I ordered the Hong Kong Wonton soup (Ask for Siracha or chili oil! I like it spicy), and my partner and child had the chicken lo mein. Our server for the evening was Rain, and his hospitality was spectacular and over the top! We started with a couple of cocktails which were: The "Capri-Fun Cooler" this is a dragon fruit-flavored citrus drink that was sweet and refreshing and had basil seeds in them (Like chia seeds), "O.G. Pain Killer" which reminded me of a pina colada with a twist of orange in it, and last the "Hibiscus Fizz" which almost tastes like a spritz kinda (My favorite one was the "Capri-Fun Cooler" out of them all). My partner and child got their lo mein first and I was waiting for my soup to come out, Rain did check on us and apologized for the wait on my soup. I was patiently waiting since we were dining in and drinking so I didn't mind it at all but Rain offered us a free appetizer of our choice, and I selected the fried chicken dumplings ( They were good with the soy sauce! ) The lo mien was packed flavor and was so good my child finished his whole plate which was a kid's size ) and my wonton soup came with 4 big pieces of wonton and the rest was veggie and pork. In the end, Rain also ended up offering these huge sugar powdered donut balls that had about 5 pieces (which were soooo good I'll order again next time). The service was amazing overall, I highly recommend it to those who have a family with children and are looking for a quick/chill spot to eat at that is...
