My husband and I recently ate at Panevino. Our server was fantastic. Wine selection pretty good. Wagyu carpaccio was great. Papardelle Bolognese was great. You can tell they simmer the sauce with parmesan rinds, the sauce had great depth of flavor. That's a trick I learned working in fine dining Italian restaurants. Try it at home. Emulsify leftover parm rinds/chunks in your red sauce. The mussels were fantastic.
The negatives. The burrata chicken dish was, well, not good. I'm a dummy and was looking for a lighter/healthier dish and went for that. I was given a large bowl of linguine with about 6 halved cherry tomatoes & a handful of asparagus pieces (about 3mm², so barely even visible). So, the dish was 90% linguine noodles & olive oil. Zero flavor. As I said, you couldn't see or find asparagus. The half a dozen HALVES of cherry tomatoes were just thrown it. They were not cooked in any way. The extremely dry, over-cooked, flavorless, cubed chicken was just thrown on top like on a California Cobb salad. And it was topped with a blob of burrata. So, I thought the burrata on top was a bit strange an idea. I was right. It was dry, probably from sitting on top of a warm dish, and had a pretty rubbery skin. So you couldn't mix it into the dish. So I just ate a bite and put it on my husband's plate. I was left with a bowl of dry, cubed chicken, 3 cherry tomatoes and a pile of linguine in flavorless olive oil. It was pretty disappointing. Really confused about that one.
The other complaint is regarding the Pistachio Mousse. Okay, I'm a sucker for pistachio and mousse. A large bowl of green mousse with chopped pistachios and two slivers of strawberry arrived at our table. First bite, my husband says, "Thus tastes really boozy." And I felt like a judge of Great British Bake-off when I said, "It's pistachio extract." In a fine dining osteria, they use pistachio extract. And very, very heavily. If you don't know what this means, it means the dish tastes like fake flavoring and bad alcohol. It was awful. Yeah, I get that pistachio is a really subtle flavor, but it can be done with little or no extract. Or just don't do that dish. I took a bite with a shard of strawberry and that helped greatly. It was almost good with that in the bite. So why wouldn't you just chop strawberries and mix it in with the mousse or put a lot of chopped strawberries on top so that every bite has that flavor? Mistake. Anyway, it was bad. Like roadside diner in a gas station pistachio pudding bad. Again, confusing for the place.
All-in-all, we really liked the place. The atmosphere was great, upscale, but not pretentious. You can go in Balenciaga or blue jeans. The service is top notch, friendly, but super pro. I love servers who are knowledgeable, give you their opinions, are friendly and don't feel fake. Absolute top notch service. And not just our server, all of them. I watched. Industry habit. The menu, overall looked pretty great. The specials sounded great. We would absolutely go here again. I do wish there were dishes without cream in the sauce. I really would rather have a red, olive oil based sauce usually. Don't get me wrong, I love the other sauces, just not what I want usually. I hate that every dish had a heavy cream sauce or loads of cheese (other than the meat entrees).
I do recommend this restaurant. Just don't get the burrito chicken linguine dish or the pistachio mousse. I'm willing to bet everything...
Read morePanevino Osteria has amazing food. No dening that.
It is tucked into a shopping center off of Beltline and the North Dallas Tollway. They have some outdoor seating, an expansive bar and ample seating inside. The kitchen is open so you can observe the staff working if wanted. They have a pizza oven as well.
The thing I enjoyed most about the restaurant is the rustic decor. I particularly like the hanging pendants and faux beams, that's an interesting trick of the eye. Lots of exposed brick and deep rich woods throughout.
My daughter and I went today for lunch, walked in around 12:00, there was only one other table seated. We were sat right away with a view of the kitchen. Water and bread was brought pretty promptly. The bread was served with olive oil and balsamic dipping sauce. The bread had a great flavor, paired really nicely with the dipping sauce.
It did take the server quite a while to come to the table. She wasn't the most friendly, neither was the manager, which is why I gave it four stars. Definitely didn't get the warm and fuzzies.
I started with the lobster bisque. It was served hot, it had a great flavor, had ample bits of lobster in it. Really delicious.
I ordered the stuffed shrimp, my daughter ordered a more simple fair, they did not have spaghetti and meatballs on the menu but they accommodated with meatballs and linguine. The stuffed shrimp was served on a bed of risotto, with a few spears of asparagus slices. The risotto was creamy, the shrimp had a nice flavor. The asparagus was cooked perfectly and was crisp.
My daughter did say that it smelled like a convenience store bathroom inside. There was a noticeable odor in the beginning but it did go away as the meal went on.
The server brought the check and it had several other items on it that we had not ordered, I believe she caught it pretty quickly and adjusted the bill. The manager stopped by to grab the bill but did not check with us to see how the meal was or have any greeting whatsoever. That felt strange.
Overall, the meal was...
Read moreThis was one of the most delightful finds I have experienced in some time. Located in Addison at Addison Walk, this contemporary Italian restaurant re-opened recently with some traditional entres' and pastas, as expected, but the nuances in the sauces and presentations were anything but traditional. Fortunately for our group, David was our server; who exhibited a proprietorial sense of pride in his place of work. His flashing smile and quick wit added much to our dining experience. Additionally, his knowledge of the menu and special offerings made our decision making process simple and expeditious. To begin with we shared the Calamari Shrimp Fritto Misto, with just a few pieces of fried Jalapeños to satisfy that Texan in us....yum We also shared the Baked Melanzane & Fresh Mozzarella, because my wife just can't walk past an eggplant dish...also it was incredible!!! Then we got down to some serious eating... I had the Caprese salad (theirs is the best I've had in Dallas), and for my entre I enjoyed the Lobster Ravioli Pescatore which features a mouthwatering brandy lobster sauce and steamed spinach...yes it's as great as it sounds My wife enjoyed the Spinach Peas and Marscarpone Tortelinni ....deliciousness, And my cousin ordered the Stuffed Shrimp, with crabmeat, Marscarpone risotto, Beurre Blanc.... lovely, and generous portions. Needless to say, there were a few packages taken home... As gluttonous as it may sound....we were not about to leave without DESSERT!!! I had the not to be missed, Walnut Crusted Apple Pie...best ever Wife tried Chocolate Lava Cake and cousin finished with the Limoncello Cake.... The owner stopped by our table to insure we were pleased with everything, and he too had a smile that wouldn't quit. This may be the very best dining experience I've had in some time...excellent all the way around. Make this a destination...
