I've been coming to Scolari's for years. Last Thursday, my BFF was visiting from out of town. She hadn't been here in a few years. We were in downtown Oakland seeing friends and she really wanted food from here. So I called to place an order. They asked me to hold. I was on hold all the way until I walked through the door. 14-15 minutes.
There were no customers. Employees standing around.
I ordered the usual. Nashville Hot Chicken, Blueberry Bacon Blue and Scampi fries. We got our food and went to my apartment.
The food was not edible. At all. We threw it all out. I called and spoke to Callie. She said "Well it IS a hot chicken sandwich"
Ummm... I've had it over a dozen times. I'm aware. There were no blueberries on the burger, and medium rare was closer to well done. The fries were overdone as well. The chicken sandwich was SO hot. We both started choking on the heat. We both eat hot stuff all the time. This was disgusting.
Cali took my info and said I would get a call right after Christmas.
Nothing.
I called again this week. I was informed the Manager knew but would reach out Thursday, that they were off Tuesday and Wednesday. The young man apologized for the delay and my disappointment. (First apology yet)
Nothing.
Come on Scolari's, get...
Read moreUpdate: I tried this place again and was disappointed that I was told I couldn't add tomatoes even if I paid for them. The answer was just no They have them there so what is the deal? I didn't like that and I hope the owner reads these reviews.
Warning; The pizza slice is different and just a sprinkle of cheese. I didn't care for it. If you're looking for very lite cheese then you may like it. Just not what I am use to. Same thing at Marley g across the street. I didn't realize they were same company.
I had the specials today..shrimp Louie salad and hush puppies. It was delicious! The shrimps were big and plenty in the order. Shrimp were prepared excellent and all ingredients were fresh! Better than and cheaper than a restaurant version.
The hush puppies were yummy! They had just a few corn kennels inside but not a lot which added a nice texture To the mix. The honey drizzled on top was really good And nice touch! The cayenne butter was not hot but the perfect balance.
The menu is a good mix lots of items you would want to try. This is a gem. Great for takeout!
The staff is very friendly and plenty seating outside or you can get food delivered at the bar next door. Delivery can be done through an app...
Read moreSent here with high expectations by higher-up's in the BDS (California "Burger Death Squad", a highly trained and utterly ruthless elite tea of Bay Area Burger fanatics and reviewers) I decided to go with the classic, though my peers also recommend the blueberry burger.
I have completed my report for the Burger Death Squad and have come to the conclusion that SCOLARI'S IS THE TRUTH.
The burger was 10/10 perfect, juicy, well constructed, (Even though I managed to make a mess anyway, I gotta improve my technique) the tomato, lettuce, and onion were perfectly sized, and the bun just browned enough to get the toasty flavor with none of the char. This place is East Bay Burger supreme command center, and the fries were also terrific, (Next time I will get garlic like my GF). Also I had a kindly conversation with a passer-by, wherein we lamented the changing values of today's troubled McDonald's generation, (Don't do it, kids!) and shared witty repartee as we both acknowledged the mighty power of Scolari's classic Burger. GO. EAT. KNOW THE TRUTH.....
