I hate to give bad reviews but this is necessary. We went here in previous years, it was amazing. The whole trifecta of kind staff, good food, and a clean environment but unfortunately our experience this year was disappointing to say the least. My family and I were talked into getting the buffet (which how the waiter put it sounded like the best meal ever) for $10.95. The buffet was the most pathetic disgusting food I have ever seen. In its entirety there was some old beans and rice, half a tamale, one soggy tortilla, and the crusty remains of mac n cheese and mashed potatoes , along with many empty bins of grease and grime. The waiter exclaimed in the rudest way possible that we should be more understanding for the scarcity of food, saying that we need to understand that it was very busy when it clearly was not. We scraped through the remaining food, assuming that they would keep their word when they said new food would be out within ten minutes, but then we came to find out that they were closing down the buffet. After finding that out my family and I found no point in paying $11 for the small amount of food we scrambled to find and found it ridiculous that they closed it down just a few minutes after we arrived. The waiters argued with us acting like the lack of food was our fault and we had a some words. Our waitress then grabbed my arm saying that we touched the food so we have to pay for it. I'm disappointed to say that this was absolutely the worst customer service I've experience and hope no one will ever experience the same thing my family went...
Read moreHorrible service and food at this establishment. Not from Alamosa and thought that I would try out a Mexican restaurant that local recommended to us. Nobody greeted us as we walked in the door so just found us seats and waited for the server. Waited over 15 minutes just to get water. Then waited another hour to get our food. Ordered fairly simply order for a Mexican restaurant, two enchiladas and an avocado tostada. When an hour approached received my order. Only one enchilada on plate and the tostada was ice cold. The manager was right next to us when I told the server we have waited over an hour. She asked him if that was true and he said no. I told manager you can check my phone and verified it was an hour as I had texted my husband when we arrived. After she half heartedly apologized for the wait she then said "We are just backed up with take out orders." Her server said "Yeah if you would have ordered take out you would have had your food faster." I couldn't believe that. During a pandemic we thought we would help this place out and this is the type of treatment they give paying customers. I will never be back to this place and will go to...
Read moreMost people walk into Oscar’s and get stuck on the walls, the furniture, or the “ambiance” — as if they came here for trendy decor and Instagram vibes. Don’t make that mistake. Oscar’s is not about polished aesthetics or catering to the entitled. It’s about food, culture, and heart.
The people in the kitchen aren’t just “cooks.” They’re craftsmen, passing down the religion of Mexican food with every tortilla, every simmering pot of chile, every plate that leaves the stove. You can taste the hours, the fatigue, the love in the way the flavors hit you. This isn’t fast casual. This is authenticity, and authenticity doesn’t wear makeup.
If you want flash, go somewhere else. If you want real Mexican food — the kind that makes you sit back and realize this is what food is supposed to taste like — then this little spot in Alamosa is it.
Oscar’s proves that good food doesn’t need mood lighting or curated playlists. The only thing curated here is flavor, and they serve it up in a way that reminds you why food is culture,...
