A last minute decision led us to Azuma. We have driven past it several times and this time decided to give it a try. First let me say, I will not be back. We sat at the little bar and we're greeted quickly and placed our drink order. That's about the best of the evening. We ordered the cowboy roll and a salmon roll with rice and noodles on the side. The rice and noodles came out in about 5min and then another 20min wait for the cowboy roll. We had to ask for silverware chopsticks and plates as none were provided to us. The second roll never showed up. The fried rice and noodles were stone cold by the time we actually started to eat but the roll kept falling apart so we had to use out forks to get the roll on our plates. The tempura shrimp on the inside of the roll was either under or over cooked I couldn't tell but it was very chewy. The steak strips on the top of the roll were kinda tasty but still very cold. I actually found a BONE in the steak strips and my wife found a shell from the tempura shrimp. When we told the waiter about all of this he shrugged and said "sorry about that". We love to try new places in Albuquerque but next time I'll go to Hooters across the street.

While I thoroughly believe we all need to be a little more patient and understanding given our current climate, I regret that my experience at Azuma was less than satisfactory. When we arrived we we're given a warm greeting at their temporary outdoor dining venue. I applaud them for their efforts and creativity, but was a little taken aback when the waitstaff used the same dirty wash rag to wipe down each table, with no sanitary measures taken with the communal condiments or chairs. Alas, we ordered our entrees and two sushi rolls. Unfortunately both the entrees and sushi arrived at the same time...with the entree being the cooler, room temp of the two. I was also a little surprised when we didn't recieve soup or salad with our entrees, as the tables around us did, and as was indicated on the menu. When we asked our server, Rainee, about the absence of these items and if they were included, we recieved a curt "no." As another server kindly asked her tables as to the preference of dressing, soup and the like, my curiosity bubbled. When Rainee returned, we asked again...so, why weren't soup or salad included? Well...low and behold, "the customer has to ask for it." Hmm, I kind of figured they would be included as was denoted on the menu. We asked if there was an additional cost for these things, to which Rainee replied "no...they're complimentary; but you have to ask for them." Well shoot, I guess the onus is on the customer here at Azuma to keep the waitstaff honest. I think our server may have just made a mistake and forgot to bring these items; but instead of asking if we would like to recieve the complimentary and included sides, we were just met with confrontation and it was our fault for not asking...even though we did inquire twice. After this I was disinterested and just wanted to leave. Thank you for the $70 lunch and...

Updated on 07/19/2023 Our server was amazing. The sushi rolls are always great. We lowered our stars based on our grill experience. The chef did an ok job. He did make sure 2 of our younger grandchildren got to see the onion volcano. They used to do the onion volcano earlier in the meal along with the vegetables before the proteins were prepared. Then he tossed it in garbage. We found it odd that the chef placed my salmon on the grill first, and boy, it was an over fried doorstop. I couldn't pick up any of it with my chopsticks. My husband's steak was cooked adequately. The shrimp that we ordered on 6 of the 8 plates at our table was also overdone, rubbery, The chicken was also dry and difficult to eat. However, the vegetables were not cooked very long and were practically raw. We could tell the chef was trying to do everything quickly. And the flat top was set way too high. I am looking for a new date night location. If it wasn't for the sushi and waitress, the whole score would have been lower.

Oh, we mentioned to the chef that my husband is allergic to eggs. In the past, the chefs would wipe the flat top before starting the noodles. Not this chef. He threw the noodles on with my salmon and kept on cooking. We spent most of the meal inspecting his food.

Updated on 4/7/2022 Wait staff still has challenges but did the best they could. We were more disappointed in the people who fail to tip the chef, and talk bad about the service, but raved and boasted about how awesome their meal was prepared. Azumas continues to be one of our favorite venues for date night.

Original post. Awesome food! Chefs are great. Wait staff has too many tables and not always...

I went into Azuma alone a couple nights ago strictly for sushi. I sat at the sushi bar and not only did Jose make me an AMAZING Lady Finger roll and Sumo roll but he talked with me and made me feel welcome. Im appreciative. I HAD TO CHANGE THIS REVIEW UNFORTUNATELY. I am FURIOUS with the service I received tonight. I attempted to place an online order for my son since this was his favorite place to get sushi. Almost an $80 order. The website said it did not go through so I called and Placed the order. I then saw the charge for the online order on my account so I called and let them know that the order from online had gone through. They told me it was OK to come get my order at 7:30 PM. When I arrived I was told I had not paid for my order and without a confirmation number I needed to pay for my food again. I explain that I did not receive a confirmation number because I was told the order did not go through but showed them the charge on my account. I was told without paying again I would not be receiving my food. This is the second time this is happened while online ordering. The last time they also told they never received my order so I had to wait for it to be made outside. This used to be my absolute favorite place for sushi. I will not be coming back. I would bring family here when they came into town, I celebrated every birthday here, but I will not be coming back. If I do not receive the refund for the order that went through I will be calling people. Get...
