Listen!!! This is a must experience, Experience. 1000/10 — Seriously! 1. We arrived and got in the lines and the staff that checked us in was super friendly and found our Reservation and prepared us to go in. 2. Upon entering, we were greeted by other satisfied customers smiling faces (and prob stomachs) as they exited. We get into the lobby area/waiting area and we are immediately tended to by a hostess that took us to our seat. Everyone upon entering was smiling and very friendly, so I felt this was going to be good from here.
We sat down at our table (this place is huge) and they explained the piece of paper and how we order and mentioned that our server would be with us shortly.
Our server came and asked us if we had been there before and asked us if we had any questions prior to ordering — he explained everything and even made our sauce for us (that you use for dipping) Now we had two things going on at our table; The Mr is Vegetarian and I’m not! So of course there are item I eat that he won’t. We browsed the menu and were very surprised that there are plenty of vegan options! 😋
Our waiter took our order and was very helpful in our selection as we asked many questions. I love when we eat somewhere and the staff know the menu and can suggest based on preference. It makes the choice feel easier. He also asked in what order we would like for the food to come to the table. I really liked that.
So now, to the nitty gritty. The food came out hot and did not disappoint in flavor. We started with the Cucumber Salad 10/10. Next we were brought the Green Beans and Garlic 20/10 - Super Good, can eat those all day. Then they brought out the Spicy Shrimp & Pork Wontons and Spicy Vegan Wontons. We have those a good toss in the sauce and OMG!!!! Did not disappoint in flavor. Next, I had the Pork Chop Fried Rice. I had so much fun sampling between the sauce from the spicy wontons and the house made sauce. This dish is amazing and the fried pork chop was juicy and tender. Then for the piece of heaven that came in the form of the XLB Chocolate Mochi along with the Sea Salt Foam. It was DIVINE!!! That literally makes you roll your eyes up in your head! It’s so good.
I skipped a detail in that the waiter, asked us if we were finished with our food prior to the dessert coming out and we wanted to take all our leftovers which he took and they box it up for you. We took care of our bill and we made our way to the exit. So now it was our turn to exit with a gleaming smile on our faces and our stomachs as we greeted others who were coming in to embark on this wonderful experience. I can’t imagine my first experience here being better. From service, to flavor, overall experience — it definitely lives up...
Read moreVERY CLASSY ! We have dined at a number of Din Tai Fung restaurants in California and everything has always been top notch. In fact we recently returned from a 2 week vacation in New York where we enjoyed a fabulous lunch at the new Din Tai Fung on Broadway....the first location on the East coast and the largest in the world. DISNEYLAND ! On Tuesday we had a date with Disneyland and we knew that Din Tai Fung had recently opened in the Downtown Disney District....our preferred lunch destination. After parking our wheels in the gigantic parking lot we made our way here around 12.30pm to see what the wait time was like....a hostess named Ewans told us just 15 minutes. AND THEN ! We headed off for a couple of hours to the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge district to check out the Millennium Falcon and go on the ride. IT WAS ALL GREAT FUN ! At 2pm I added us to the Yelp waitlist which was still around 15 minutes. We arrived at the check-in line outside at 2.20pm and by 2.25pm we were shown to a table by lovely hostess Kylie. VERY GLAMOROUS ! We walked past the huge central bar which looked beautiful. It is great that each Din Tai Fung restaurant has it's own architectural personality. After so many lunch and dinner visits over the years to multiple Din Tai Fung restaurants we have our absolute fav dishes down pat. BUT FIRST ! We asked for iced waters and a beer....a Blue Moon Belgian White would have to do. The beer list is pretty average here. I told our server Andrew that I enjoyed an Allagash White...a much better beer in New York. To say the restaurant was packed would be an understatement ..it was almost overflowing. FOOD ! So we stuck with our gang of six lunch items that have become our favs...1 x Shrimp & Pork Spicy Wontons, 1 x String Beans with Garlic, 1 x Shrimp & Pork Dumplings, 1 x Shrimp & Pork Potstickers, 1 x Noodles with Sesame Sauce and 1 x Pork Shanghai Rice Cakes. My tall glass of ice cold Blue Moon beer ( on tap ) arrived promptly and tasted good enough. Soon after our server Andrew excused himself as his shift had finished and he introduced us to his replacement Anthony. By 2.50pm our dishes started to come out one by one. until everything was in front of us except for the Pork Shanghai Rice Cakes which we had to chase up with our server Anthony. Of course everything tasted excellent as always...it is the Din Tai Fung way that each location provides the same very high standards of food, drinks and service. We surprised ourselves and pretty much cleaned up everything on our table. On the way out I met up with Sydney one of the female managers who told us she was trained by our good friend Harrison Park the GM of the incredible Costa Mesa restaurant...our fav. YOU WILL...
Read moreWe are long time Din Tai Fung fans- going back more than 15 years to the location out in Arcadia! This location is pretty large. Made the reservation about a month out for a party of 5 at 7:45 PM on a Thursday but we arrived around 7:50 PM. Waited in the line (probably about 10 parties deep) to check in. They were really busy and seated us around 8:30 PM. They give you a paper menu so you can mark your order while waiting. There is a QR code on the front of the paper menu so you can get to a menu with pictures of you aren’t sure when ordering. Nicholas A. was our waiter for the evening and he was great despite it being busy! Hot and Sour soup- one of our favorite dishes. It’s spicy but also has a lot of pepper in it which gives it a nice kick. There was a large shell in my soup and I bit into it crushing it in my mouth. Managed to get a large piece out but the rest I had to spit out. Nicholas apologized for it and a manager also came by to offer a new serving. It was fine- the rest of the soup was ok. However they ended up comping the soup, coke, and milk tea. A+ for the quick customer service! Got the Pork and the Pork/Crab Xiao Long Bao- Pork is my favorite. The filling is tasty, the wrapper is thin, and soupy inside. I feel like there used to be more soup in the xiao long bao before. Cod Dumplings- husband and son loved it but the flavor was a little fishy for me. Sticky Rice with Pork Shao Mai- sticky rice money bags- so good!! This is a family favorite! String Beans with Garlic- cannot find this dish anywhere else that prepares it like Din Tai Fung. It’s cooked but still has a crispiness when you bite into it. One of our favorites that we get every time we go. Black Pepper Beef Tenderloin- this was a first time dish for us. The meat was juicy and tender. The meat was in smaller bite size portions. The sauce was good and there was a generous amount of meat in the dish. Noodles with Spicy Sauce- another favorite dish of ours. The noodles are spicy but also sweet. Shrimp Fried Rice- another family favorite that we get every time. They offer it with brown rice too if you prefer that over white rice. Milk Tea with Boba- was a little on the sweet side but the boba was a good consistency. Best part was the view from our seats on the north side- you can see the fireworks. We walked out after and got Churros!! Best view of fireworks is right in front of the LEGO store. Restaurant offers validation for the parking (4 hours for $10 or half off) at the Downtown Disney lot. The restaurant packaged our left overs for us. Loved the interior decor of this...
