Date of experience: 10/02/2024 evening.
High marks for taking dietary allergies seriously. I mentioned I have a food allergy, and then an additional kitchen staff came out to ask questions to make sure exactly what my allergy was. Additionally, they detailed out every question on every menu item I was thinking about getting.
They also took a little extra time to bring my meal out because they took measures to clean the kitchen area and cook equipment to ensure non-transfer of contamination.
For Vegans and Strict Vegetarians, you have decent options here. It's not a lot of options, though, and some of the items you think can become options with some removals or substitutions are actually not possible.
You can get the Impossible Burger, but not fries because it is a shared fryer. They change their oil once a week. You will need to tell them no mayo, no cheese, and do not butter the bun. The bun itself is safe, and there is no egg wash on the top of it. It may seem shiny from the grill oil from the Impossible meat.
You can also get the Tofu And Pineapple Tacos, but not the beans. The rice is safe, but the beans has lard and is topped with cheese. For the taco, no chipotle mayo. The Tofu marinade is Adobo-based, and is all plant based.
Edamame is ok, but do not get the chili sauce because it contains shellfish.
Everything else is not safe, per their staff and chef information.
The Pizza dough contains dairy.
The Spicy Veggie Bowl's kimchee-tataki sauce, which is what really makes the dish, for that price, is not vegan-friendly. I forgot which sea item it was but it is not safe. Also, the sushi rice was not safe.
The Veggie Roll also has the same sushi rice that is not vegan-friendly.
For the Tropical Itch, you can order this amazing drink, but you must swap out the Myers Dark Rum. They have a bottle in the back for Cane Rum. Honestly, my partner tried both and feels the Cane Rum was better anyway. The back scratcher is also plant-based ;-) , and you can take it home with you. We removed ours and put them in the water so that they would rinse out the alcohol and juices. Honestly, after that long day, the back scratcher was the best part and I use it all the time now.
I'll definitely be coming back here. Staff was great, food well prepared, ingredients didn't look old.
Big shout out to Chelsea (server) and Michael (management) for their positive, welcoming, and inclusive attitude. They really wanted to make our experience the best, and it truly was. We didn't not feel like a burden or second class citizens for my extra needs, they answered everything happily and with a smile. We felt very taken care of.
Edit Feb 2025: been testing the fries out. My allergy makes me get dizzy and disoriented when I have animal protein. The fryers (so far) are changed often enough that I haven't gotten dizzy eating a few off of mg wife's plate.
Edit Sept 2025: thank you to Jair for checking on my food allergies and personally making sure the food prep was...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I had a reservation on Monday, January 29th at 6:30pm. We arrived before the reservation time, and were greeted by the kind front desk host that was located outside the restaurant's doors. She marked us as arrived on their OpenTable tablet, and instructed us to walk in and the hosts inside would seat us.
As we walked in, there were three hosts, two shorter/younger brunettes/black hair and a taller blonde. Upon entering, they just stared us down and kept talking. They did not approach us, they did not acknowledge us, they kept (literally) twiddling their fingers, and talking/gossiping to each other. Only when my boyfriend approached them, did they ask us what we were there for. We said we had a reservation and the two shorter brunettes led us to our table. As they were leading us over, they continued to just talk and gossip to each other.
As a host and server myself, I found this to be extremely disrespectful and unprofessional behavior. I'm a younger person as well, and they just had no business treating customers this way, especially at a location in Downtown Disney- which is constantly popular and busy due to the location. I work at a smaller, yet constantly busy and popular restaurant, and I would never think to treat customers this way, as it can effect the entire team.
Our server, Edgar, however, turned the night completely around. He gave prompt and great service, recommended delicious items, and seemed to know the menu well enough to know what drinks and dishes were the best. He absolutely saved the night, as we did not have high expectations after the experience with the front desk. We probably would have walked out if it wasn't for his great service.
Overall, the food and service was great, but the hosts definitely need more training and more work. For people who don't work in the restaurant industry, when they decide to tip, they think of the OVERALL experience. The actions and behavior of the front desk would absolutely play into how well the wait staff gets tipped for their work, even though that has nothing to do with them/isn't their fault. I hope management takes the necessary steps because customers first impression/interaction with the business being as it was for us, can ruin the entire...
Read moreUpdate: I rarely write bad reviews, but this definitely warrants one. I order a limited time item of filet sliders. I told the waiter no cheese and toppings on the side. He kept asking if it was an allergy and I said no. Then he asked if it was an intolerance, and I said a slight one. Then he asked if it can be cooked near or with dairy, and I said yes thatâs fine I just try to limit dairy. My food was brought out with no toppings. I asked for the toppings, with hesitation one of them was brought out. When I asked for the second topping, the waiter agreed. Then he blatantly ignored us and sent a manager over to say they wouldnât be serving me the topping because the waiter listed my order as a dairy allergy. I was just being very clear to keep the cheese and toppings off so I can control how much I do consume. I did so because I wanted to make sure I wouldnât have to send food back and make their lives harder. For our waiter to ignore my requests and our table entirely, then send a manager over, is so unacceptable and childish. Thereâs a difference between caution, and blatantly ignoring someone/assuming what they can eat. Iâm an adult and know what I can tolerate and not. I did not need to be treated like a child and told no when asking for something. Weâre annual pass holders and used to come here a lot, but we will not be back.
Original review: My first time here I tried the steak and wasnât too impressed. Since then Iâve been back and my husband and I have tried a few more of their plates. I have to say I havenât been disappointed since giving them another try. Itâs a bit loud in the restaurant, but the food and cocktails are worth it. Definitely recommend...
