Here we go. I'm a truck driver and I drove 125 miles to arrive at the next Culvers in Ankeny, Iowa. I parked my 18 wheeler behind Target and proceeded to Culver's. While walking I saw a place out of nowhere, B-Bop's. A place I've never heard of or even seen any advertisement for. Two young guys dressed in B-Bop's uniforms were exiting the restaurant as in if they just clocked out. I jokingly asked them is B-Bop's better than Culver's? Without hesitation one young guy said an emphatic YES without waiting 30 minutes, his restaurant partner cosigned what he said with a heavy smile. I said ok, and I apologized in my head to Culver's, I'm a Culver's Guy Through and Through, Super Loyal. So I proceeded to order a 1/2 pound burger with fries and pepsi, pickles on the side, ketchup and honey mustard. I can't recall an order being made more perfect, burger seasoned, tomato right, lettuce right, mayonnaise just right, cheese melted on the burger, fries were hot and all condiments in the bag as requested. I'm from N.C but I live in Atlanta, Ga for 23 years and I know a good and a great Pepsi or Coke and when I say that Pepsi was on point! Man O Man! I'm not even finished yet, l hope this doesn't get the young lady in trouble, but after getting out of my truck and it being a drive-thru restaurant, I asked if she had some hand sanitizer or alcohol toilette wipes. She super politely asked me if the outside table was dirty, I said no,no. I just need to somewhat clean my hands. She said I'll take care of that, this young lady brought back a perfectly cleaned bleach white warm wash cloth to the window and handed it to me, I simply said you didn't have to do that, she said no problem with a smile. I'm still not finished, I consumed this perfect burger meal on a day I'm away from my family on Father's day. Then I went back to the window to purchase another large Pepsi, because it was mixed right, the young man begun to ring me up for a large Pepsi. I respectfully asked if they offered refills, he wasn't sure so he inquired of his co-restaurant worker who looked like a 15 year old in the back making burgers confidently. They young man said YES, the cashier politely said yes and began to delete the transaction. Still not finished, as the young man went to refill my Pepsi I heard the 15 year old look-alike sound off like my company commander in Navy Bootcamp, Commanding but Instructional teaching moment. " Be sure to ask him if He'd like more Ice." Young man did an about face. Sir, would you like more ice. I answered, being 35 years their senior. Yes Sir, I would like more Ice. One of the best interactions I've had at a fast-food restaurant in a long time. I'm trying to figure out is this an Ankeny, Iowa thing or B-Bop's thing. I know one thing, I'm a B-Bop's customer for life whether or not I ever see another B-Bop's in my life. You guys have the blueprint for...
Read moreWe haven't been to a b-bops in years! They make good food here for being "fast food". They have good size sandwiches for adults, when compared to their competitors. We got prompt service when we pulled up in drive thru.. We enjoyed our cheeseburger and tenderloin with fries. All 3 items were great!
The reasons for only 4 stars-- We had to yell so that the employee could hear us when ordering. They do not have any kids meals or even anything on the menu that would be suited in size for the littles. That was seriously shocking to both myself and my 4 year old. Right now, at her age, happy meals are the reason we even get fast food once in awhile. We asked for ketchup and mayonnaise and then a different employee brought the food to the window and they didn't have any in the bag. So we waited and waited for someone to come back to the window. We eventually knocked on the window to get their attention (he was literally standing right there in the window next to us filling drinks). Not sure how one doesn't notice someone not leaving the window, whi is also waving their band right beside their face? Haha I only wanted the darn ketchup and mayonnaise :( They are my favorite go-to things with French fries. Anyone else do this?? The employees barely said a word to us. I think they literally only said our total to us when we pulled up to the window. Lol After that.. nothing... I even thanked them multiple times and apologized for any inconvenience to them (even though I had asked right away at the window, so as not to have to make them go back for them). All of the employees we seen working there were all very young kids. So maybe it's just so strange new generation thing? After saying all of this, their fries are BOMB! If we ever decide to try it again, I may just order a large French fry and nothing...
Read moreYou really can’t beat B-Bop’s when it comes to fast food quality. The burgers are always fresh, flavorful, and cooked just right. It’s no wonder the drive-thru lines are usually long—but thanks to the double-lane setup, they keep things moving quickly and efficiently.
The staff at the Ankeny location are consistently friendly and upbeat, no matter the weather or the rush. We’ve never had a bad experience here. Our orders are always accurate, and the service is genuinely courteous—a rare combo in the fast food world these days.
Ambiance-wise, it’s exactly what you’d expect: a bustling drive-thru joint on a busy corner, but they do offer a walk-up window if you’d rather skip the car, along with outdoor seating that includes umbrellas for shade. That said, parking can be a bit tight when it’s busy, so plan accordingly.
Pro tip: Hit them up on Monday nights for a killer deal—a ¼ lb single burger for just $2.18. It’s the same high-quality burger they always serve, just a fraction of the price. No shortcuts, no substitutions—just a solid,...
