First of all, prepare yourself for the amazing smells the moment you walk in the door. Then, look immediately to your left and admire the fresh baked assortment of pies and cobblers......tonight was rhubarb and peach, made fresh in house.
Next, make your way to the counter and chat with the incredibly friendly staff, who will discuss the MANY options with you - I promise there is something for everyone (yes, dairy free too!) and you will not be disappointed.
We had seven in our group, adults and kiddos - and all enjoyed the homemade ice cream (strawberry, bubble gum, cotton candy, salted caramel, birthday cake - of course, a ton of toppings - we had sour gummy worms & regular gummy worms) as well as the FRESH, made to order bubble bowl we decided was a mix between a churro, donut and pancake. It was something we had never seen or tasted before - and we want more The chocolate/sprinkle dipped, waffle cone was also a hit! There are also milkshakes! We enjoyed a peanut butter milkshake, highly recommend.
Definitely go, we CLEARLY enjoyed everything we had and cannot wait to return! Cannot fail to mention, we met the owner and his son - they're both super nice and hard working, we are so grateful for this business!! Brownie points for a clean, inviting establishment AND outdoor seating.
I believe he mentioned there are nine other locations?! A couple are also arcades with restored games?! They know what the heck...
Read moreBased on reviews we decided to drive from Ames to try this place out. Your business will not last long if your employees are more interested in their phones than they are in getting orders correct. When we got there a couple was sitting at a table, and one man was in line ahead of us. I ordered 1 scoop of orange cream and 1 scoop of vanilla, no toppings, what I got was probably 2 scoops of orange and 2 scoops of vanilla. My husband ordered Nan's Apple Pie, and the young man seemed a little confused by this order. We were paying for our orders, the young man asked the young lady at the register, where the apple pie was, she said they did not have any. However, she said they had apple crisp and asked my husband if that would be ok instead. He said yes that was even better. The young man making our order asked if we wanted it hot, and we responded with yes we did. As we sat waiting for my husband's order, we noticed that the young man kept looking at the board half a dozen times or more to see what was in it. Finally, he handed my husband his order. Only to realize that it was wrong. What was handed to my husband was a large cup full of vanilla ice cream, with a small amount of oats, a few gram crackers, and a very small amount of caramel drizzled on top. There was not a single apple in the whole cup. This was NOT worth a trip to Ankeny from Ames nor the 25 dollars we...
