I've been coming to GTC's for several years and it consistently gets worse every time. I think the last visit may be the end. The doormen appear to have no idea how to do their job. Despite almost the entire outside patio being deserted and several tables being empty, they continue to make patrons wait in line. After waiting over an hour and watching several friends of the doormen simply walk in, we were finally granted access and got a seat at the bar--no real wonder since the place was nowhere close to capacity.
Finally got the bartenders attention and our drinks arrived. Over the course of the next 30 minutes, we observed the various bartenders taking 12 shots, and giving away drinks left and right. It appears to be a private party for anyone that knows an employee! Long as you know the doorman you can get in.. If you know the bartender all you have to do is tip!
Despite starting a tab, the bartender asked for cash after every transaction and could never remember our name. No small wonder since I saw her doing at least 5 shots!
Long story short, the place is a disaster. Horrible service stars at the door and continues throughout. If the doormen/bouncers had any clue how to actually do their job, at least half dozen partiers should have been tossed out. We saw at least 4 people literally sleeping at the bar, or so wasted they could hardly stand. One humorous situation was a guy who ordered a drink, told the bartender he had a tab, and for the next 20 minutes she and 2 other bartenders asked him his name or who he started the tab with. Finally, it seems to have penetrated through his alcohol soaked brain and he said he must not have started a tab, but also had no credit card or money to pay. The bartenders simply walked away! I couldn't believe it!
Honestly can say that I've never been in a worse managed establishment. It really looked like one of those "Bar Failure" TV shows. The decor is dated, the TV's are mainly all on the same switch so you can't watch multiple games, the place is a disaster. This place only survives due to its location and the thirst of the MI fans. Hopefully, the mismanagement--or complete lack of management from what I can see--will bring this place to a close so anyone with a clue as to how to run a bar can open...
Read moreWe celebrated my girlfriends retirement party here. We were all dressed up. We had issues with parking and construction but we were able to get there 15 mins to 6:00, we could still catch happy hour! We waited at hostess stand while 2 hostess tried to find a patio seat for 6. 10 minutes later I spoke up and said we are here to celebrate her retirement and want to catch happy hour. I felt bad speaking up but I felt if I wouldn't have we still would not be seated. We were put in a concern and were never waited on. After about 10 more minutes one of the girls went to find a wait staff member. She found them all huddled up talking and one said she would be there soon. She came over shortly after with an attiuted. She claimed they only had 3 wines, which I still wonder if she was right? We reminded her that we wanted happy hour prices since we were there and she did not want to honor that. We asked to speak with a manager (he was in a meeting) and went ahead with ordering food and drinks. We were there to celebrate. The food was good actually really good. The service was very shaky. When we were ready to check out my girlfriend reminded the waitress that we wanted happy hour prices and would like to speak with a manager. She came back with a small discount on a few bills but mixed up everyone's bills. Finally a manager came over and listed to what my girlfriend said with a bit of attitude he took a few bucks off the other bills that did not have a happy hour discount and acted like he was doing something great. We never had a congratulation offered to our dear friend and were not treated nice at all. Major bust on this one. We will not be...
Read moreI had a very unpleasant experience here on game day. For Michigan's away football game, I got in line 90 minutes before opening so my group could get a good spot to watch. Despite being one of the first people there, we were seated outside with no TVs in sight, completely unable to watch the game we came for.
When I asked to be moved, I was told "no" and that we had to remain in our spot to "balance servers." That explanation made no sense, because just 15 minutes later the entire restaurant filled up and every server was busy anyway. Meanwhile, we were stuck outside, missing the entire game day atmosphere we had waited so long for.
The service was slow regardless, so there was no real reason we could not have been seated inside before people who arrived much later. On Saturdays, especially during football season, management should understand why people come here. For our whole group to be pushed aside like that ruined the day and left us extremely frustrated.
I would never recommend this place, and we will not be...
