I don't usually leave negative reviews but I was so disappointed in this coffee shop that maybe my negative experience will help them improve in the future. I came to this coffee shop with my partner because we love exploring coffee shops we've never been to, and this place seemed to have opened really recently.
The storefront is cute, and I like the aesthetic. Seating is a bit sparse but it's Ann Arbor and the coffee shop is small. I noticed that the barista that took care of us didn't really seem "into it" and while they weren't rude, we didn't really feel welcomed either. My partner and I both ordered the sugar daddy latte, mine iced and my partner's hot. I also ordered an almond croissant.
When I got my drink, the espresso tasted burnt/sour and I couldn't really taste any of the flavoring listed... My partner's was alright, not burnt tasting but lacking in the flavor we were expecting. It was disappointing. But what was even worse was the croissant. I've worked in many bakeries for years and I know a good croissant, this wasn't it. It was so dry that when I talked it poofed out of my mouth in a cloud of dust. It was obviously a couple days old. The end bits were hard and crumbled. I had to throw it away because it just wasn't good and I was kind of salty that we paid for a super stale croissant. You could definitely tell even through the bag that it was stale. They had to grab it for me so... How did you not notice that it was hard?
Overall, I was really disappointed, and with so many quality coffee shops around Ann Arbor and Ypsi, this didn't even come close. You really have to stand out to succeed in this area, and this coffee shop didn't do it for me. I hope that maybe they take criticism and use it to improve things, but as it stands now, I would not go back, and if they choose to ignore criticism and feedback, I don't see this coffee shop making it to the end of the...
Read moreI genuinely enjoy coming to Misfits. I've been coming here for a year to work or before classes, and the coffee and pastries are always good. The (new?) veggie burrito is AMAZING. I'm surprised that it took me this long to write a review, but felt compelled after coming in today.
I witnessed the staff professionally, cordially, and kindly address a grown customer who essentially threw a tantrum over the fact that the cafe doesn't accept cash. Although he was given free coffee (and then proceeded to ask for free breakfast too, lol), he proceeded to creepily record everyone, including innocent customers waiting to order (even pointing his phone at me, saying, "And some people are probably pulling out their cameras to record me now!" I don't know who told him that I thought he was important but they lied to that man), and complain about the "illegal practices" happening at the shop. While it might be inconvenient for some folks (maybe they should have a little sign at the door at this point), it's actually not illegal. The way that the folks at Misfit Society handled this grown man, and the other grown man who egged him on and is apparently also unfamiliar with laws, was a masterclass in defusing situations in customer service and they didn't miss a beat afterward... even with the collective confusion and disbelief that lasted hours after the incident. Barista/os do not get paid enough for this and I just want the good people at MSCC to know they're...
Read moreI understand it can be annoying when the place you work at has a laundery list of items that are sold out, but notifying customers is part of the job. My friend and I looked over the list of flavors you guys sold out of and thought we ordered two drinks that weren't on the list of sold out flavors. I guess we were wrong and, instead of telling us, were just given an unflavored, overpriced latte (after the employees huddled near the espresso machine to try and quitely talk with each other about how tired they were of repeating themselves). I've been in quite a bit recently and every time I've been slightly disappointed with the preperation of my drinks, like whole chunks of matcha being stuck to the bottom of my Groot, but it wasn't enough to deter me from coming back or to result in a bad review. I would not recommened frequenting this spot anymore after knowingly being handed a drink I didn't order after being told...
