I rarely post negative reviews and Iām not āone of those negative peopleā but today I went in to relax, work, and enjoy a pastry. I walked in the door, I stood there for quite awhile looking at the case of delights. Not one person acknowledged my presence. When I stepped in front of the to-go register, I stood there again for awhile. There was a young man buttering bread next to the case who refused to look and say āHi maāam, someone will be with you shortly.ā Another older man saw me from behind the counter (he was stationed sweeping near the case) and continued sweeping and ignoring me. I never made a fuss or made a comment. A cashier across the restaurant saw me and kept looking at the two men ignoring me but NOT ONE person came over to acknowledge me or help. I The restaurant was almost empty with the exception of a few tables with people at them. This behavior was condescending and low-key hateful. It was almost like it was done on purpose. I hope that was not the case but sadly I donāt put much past some people these days. My mind has another waning suspicion (side eye) as to why I was ignored, but I will not go there at this moment. You ended up having to place your order at the end of the register where there was only one girl doing the job of 4 people. She was taking orders, making salads, working the hot station and being the cashier. By the time we got through the line my soup was cold and the food I ordered off the hot bar apparently had been sitting under the heat lamp for quite some time, the potato galette was completely unedible it was like a rock. The tea canisters and bread station were empty, we paid for three drinks and ended up drinking water. This was my choice of places to go as my son was taking me out for my birthday. I love La Madeleine and it's been awhile since I've been as we moved and I now live rural. I was very much looking forward to going this evening only to be disappointed. La Madeleine has gone way downhill from the dining experience I used to have there. I walked in and the āhostessā (wearing a blue chef jacket and a blue hat) was standing there in the front, I said, āhello!, itās going to be twoā and she replied āwe donāt have any tables availableā so I was confused and asked her āso do we give you our names to put on a list?ā And she said ā unfortunately we donāt take reservations ā she didnāt give no further explanation so I just stood in line to not loose my position and more people came after me and stood behind me. ( she never acknowledged the other customers) After a while she said ā ok it appears that we have a table, what would you like?ā I didnāt know I had to order with her I was expecting to seat and then look at the menu now I felt forced to choose quickly because I didnāt want the others to wait for me. Thankfully the food was excellent and the guy working in the pastry said was really friendly but the experience made me not want to come back to this location again.
