Went in around lunchtime on a sunday, 1:20-ish. The room was mostly empty, save for 2 families with 5-or-so people each.
I ordered a single Bánh Mì for 7 dollars. For those who don't know, in layman's terms, it's like a cold-cut, but filled with popular Vietnamese ingredients. The main staples are still there, a creamy sauce, a meat, and vegetables. I like to think I'm an adventurous eater, but I can't pass up an idiosyncratic sandwich when I see one.
While eating I didn't really get any discernable taste, it all just kinda melded into the pate they used, which was savory, but a bit one note? The sandwich needed something acidic or salty to cut through the creaminess (It was like the pickled ingredients they used didn't really provide much but an annoying eating experience as they slid out of the bun, and a little bit of crunch to the chew along with the toasted bread.) The aftertaste was all herbs though.
Vietnamese food is supposed to be aromatic, which my sandwich definitely was, the coriander did a very good job of sticking around when the dish was finished, which didn't take long. You shouldn't order this expecting something substantial, if you want to be a full American, you'd want to get like 2 or 3, or just a different dish. It felt like an "Art-Sandwich," a sandwich to be experienced, not just wolfed down.
My main issue wasn't with the flavors present, it was with the quality of the food when faced with the 35-minute wait before it. I understand the struggles of cooking several orders at once, at least I think I do. But assembling the ingredients to a sandwich that is entirely cold ingredients besides a toasted baguette shouldn't have taken nearly as long as it did.
Additionally, flies.
---TO GET TO THE POINT--- I appreciate the food, the person taking my order was quick to help me when I first walked in, and seemed attentive when tending to the other tables. I just don't think what I ordered should've taken so long to receive. The food is authentic (At least as far as I could tell/feel,) and that should stand for a star on it's own. If you can get past the slow service, you'll be getting something very different from the typical fast food or burger diner, we need more of that...
Read moreI've been meaning to try this place for a good while but wanted to wait until the first wave of people finally left and I could go alone and just enjoy it.
To start off, their customer service is absolutely great. They're right by your table at a moment's notice before you even truly can say that you need anything
Secondly, their eggrolls are closer to the size of what everyone else is used in spring rolls but the sauce that accompanied these was AMAZING! (Careful, they are hot temperature wise)
And finally their Pho, I had purchased the Spicy pho because I wanted to try out the Vietnamese brisket, ham, and beef they had for it, and lemme tell ya, it bopped.
Even the broth itself is just delicious in so many ways without even having to add any of the staples to the pho (Bean sprouts, house, sriracha, chili paste) but I did anyways to really bring out the flavor I like.
The spicy pho earns its name well, but it's not a kind of spicy that hurts your mouth, it's more of a temperature riser and honestly I can't wait to have another one in the coming winter days.
Absolutely recommend this place for new and experienced people who are looking for a good Vietnamese cuisine. They also have vermicelli noodles, fried rice, an arrangement of green teas, and so much more.
While they may have a small menu compared to the big guys in Greensboro or Winston, they have a big heart and I love that more than anything else that...
Read moreI ordered takeout for my sick sister. The Boss Man, I like him he shows he cares. I asked for a little more soup for my sick sister came out with a container of extra soup when I asked how much he said it was okay. That right there goes along ways in any type of food business. I appreciate it and understand even if the old man in the cooking area is complaining about it but you still took care of a customer means everything. Soup is not cost friendly to Make especially if you are making a deep rich dark broth. With all the expensive beef bones and condiments it takes to make. But yours is good too. Business is hard but when you show your heart I promise. I promise people will see it. Keep it up Anh. Keep smiling and treating people like family. I will be back soon coming back from my trip to get food...
