The Yum Yum Poke Bowl tastes great but every time I’ve visited the service has been consistently poor.
The other site near WCU has more friendliness and better customer service. What made me decide to never come back to the Asheville site again is the rude attitude and bad service. When I came in with my husband, we walked in awhile conversing. We walked up to menu and started to figure out what we wanted to eat—We did not give any cues to the girls that we were ready. Suddenly, one of the girls blurt out after 10 seconds of us existing there, “DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT?” I flashed her a weird taken aback sort of look but she probably was not able to tell because of the mask. We hurriedly made a decision. I told the first girl I wanted a little bit of brown rice and a lot more veggies. She did not do that for me so my husband’s order was a lot bigger than mine. I also noticed that my husband had roe and mine didn’t even though we both ordered the same thing. I recalled having roe with the Yum Yum Bowl and so I told the second girl at the cash register... “I don’t think I was given roe.” She stared at my bowl and said something like: No, I think she did give you roe. I felt astonished because even I could see that there was no roe. So, I just let it slide... Then, I also said... Well, my bowl is a lot less than his... and she didn’t say anything nor offer to add more lettuce. These girls are very inexperienced or just lacking in character and common courtesy. Once I got to my seat, I rummaged through the food and as I thought... there was no roe. So, I went up to the first girl who scooped my food and told her I didn’t have roe. And she said that my bowl choice doesn’t include roe. I told her my husband has roe. She said he probably asked for it. I said no he didnt.
So, obviously these girls have no idea what’s supposed to be in the bowls. And if they did or did not, they definitely did not respond well to my concerns. I’m not sure what was going on but we were the only ones ordering food. It was not like they were busy to have acted short and unpleasant with us. The workers had long hair in ponytails. It’s not my first time seeing the first worker. But, anyway, I thought it was a bad day for her the first time I visited. But, the fact that this has happened more than one occasion shows a trend in attitude. Not that it matters to these people–maybe it will matter to the management– but I’ll be driving the extra minutes to the other site near the Biltmore Park Town Square instead of the Asheville one. People should be kinder and strive...
Read moreI went here with a truly excited hope in having poke. Went in and ordered first off they had no real poke selections. They had what seemed to be a corporate version of poke which is more like Chipotle poke. It hands down was the worst poke ive ever had in my life enough to make auntie cry bruhda. It was warm salmon and tuna that where the cheapest cuts. They didnt even know what furikake was not did they offer 1. Scoop or 2 scoop rice. Then to top it all off there sauces where some form of panda express variant. Then when i looked at there to go menu they had "traditional Hawaiian" as a signature dish which believe me when I tell you I have ate poke on all the islands and have never ran across any of the variations. These people had the Gaul to name a dish Molokai and are in my personal opinion tricking the people of asheville on a truly traditional dish that a proud Hawaiian people eat daily and ripping there tradition away to make a way over priced corporate product I encourage you all not to go here and just stick to making it at home for literally $11 and makes 4 servings out of your local...
Read morePretty healthy bowls and fusion burritos to be had here. The menu is a bit hard to understand when first looking at it, but the staff can help you out. Depending on your choice, you pick your protein, veggies, sauce, extras, etc. There are other side items too. Plenty of vegan/vegetarian options also. The miso soup was delicious and was filled with plenty of tofu and seaweed, great on a cold day. The veggie spring rolls were good. They tasted like any other, they came out piping hot which is nice. Our main entree was nice. I ordered a small bowl. If you pick the right ingredients, you're food will taste great. If you choose the wrong stuff, I can see why some people might be put of by this. Also, when everything is in the bowl, it's difficult to mix because it's stuffed, so some ingredients start falling out. They need to make the bowls a little wider. Still, tasty and healthy Asian fusion food to get here that won't empty...
