We were in town visiting family and wanting Indian food. We decided to try House of India for the lunch buffet. We called ahead of time to confirm the buffet hours and the man who answered was very friendly. The buffet ends at 2:30 and we arrived at 1:45. Since we knew we were arriving close to the end of lunch, we weren't expecting much. We were very pleasantly surprised that the buffet was still well-stocked, no empty spots. Moreover, hot food was hot and cold food was cold. Nothing tasted like it had been sitting out or was "old." All the chicken dishes were very tender. The butter chicken is some of the best I've had, as was the naan. (Everything else was very good too, special recognition to the tandoori chicken and the potatoes though.) They were almost out of naan and I asked if they were bringing more; the nice man (who I presume was the owner) said they would bring out more for us. Fresh naan was quickly brought out and he let us know when it was. The mango lassi was definitely the best we've had, and my fiancé can be picky with his mango lassis. Everything was a fair price. We both look forward to returning the next time we're in town. Also, the restaurant itself...
Read moreOur hostess, Aishwarya, was absolutely delightful, informative and professional! My daughter and I enjoyed a buffet lunch yesterday at Ashland's new House of India restaurant. The food was very tasty, with great vegetarian options, albeit they were admittedly missing a few staples; lentil soup and spinach dahl. The previous day was their grand opening (where they offered free meals) and were therefore wiped out of some ingredients, hence the missing offerings. I look forward to going back to try more of their dishes! This location was formerly the House of Thai and the new owners have made refreshing updates to the interior. It was clean and comforting to the eye on the inside, while the exterior was festively decorated and inviting. The pricing was appx $15/person which is what is to be expected in Ashland. I will certainly be returning and adding this to my short list of favorite...
Read moreWe visited this place during our vacation and ordered the Cauliflower Manchurian, Chicken Vindaloo Thali, and Garlic Chicken Thali. We had specifically asked for the dishes to be spicy, but unfortunately, they weren’t — in fact, they turned out quite sweet. The Chicken Vindaloo lacked the authentic spicy, tangy kick it's known for, and the sambar was very watery without the traditional flavor.
As someone familiar with Indian flavors, I felt the dishes were missing the bold spices and taste you’d expect. The items I did enjoy were the Cauliflower Manchurian, the raita, and the mixed vegetable korma/curry that came with the thali. I wasn’t a fan of the dessert either, though it was at least served nice and chilled. On the positive side, the service was good — the server was friendly...
