New to this side of town due to a job, so me and my coworkers are always on the hunt for a black own business to support. We tried them out and being we never been here before we go to the counter not sure what to order the young lady that was at the front counter was not helpful at all. We let her know we were new to the area and didn't what to order she just looked at us no suggestions at all. So we ordered the lunch jerk chicken with rice and beans and collards. The food was ok the rice with beans had no flavor the greens were way to salty. Then instead if the food being in a togo plate it was all in a small 3inch togo bowl with all the darn food just packed on top of one another like what in the hell. The meal also came with a drink that the lady did not even tell us about. We went back a second time because i wanted to give them another chance but it was not different and only reason I got my soda the second time was due to another customer asking if he got a soda and the lady was like yeah the off brand one but no sign states you have to get the no name soda just a mess. I also would prefer my food not just all in one heaping mess that was crazy. I suggest your company learn how to be customer friendly and get some new togo plates with separate sections to put the sides in and not one big mess with the food all on top of each other for your lunch hour. If people are new at least be able to suggest something for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI find this spot to be over hyped. Definitely leaves me missing the Jamaican food from New York and Toronto.
I understand everyone has their own spin on things but Dat Fire leaves a lot to be desired.
The jerk chicken isnāt really jerk chicken. Itās simply grilled chicken that lacks jerk flavor or spice. Fortunately the chicken is grilled and has the smoke grilled flavor, but thatās about it. I guess their approach is to serve dry borderline bland ājerkā chicken and then give you a side of jerk sauce. I need a few of these to make up for the lack of flavor. The chicken can also be hit or miss in terms of how dried out and over cooked it is.
The jerk pork is similar to the chicken. Can be hit or miss with some pieces being overlooked or dried out.
They are generous with the rice and peas but too often itās either under or over cooked. With the rice sometimes grainy and the peas hard.
I always get steamed cabbage and itās sometimes lacking flavor and the portion size is tiny.
The oxtails are pretty average. Lot of small pieces that are mostly bone.
I suspect the Jerk patties are previously frozen
Plantains usually never fail me- so thereās that positive note.
Overall I donāt think the food is nasty, but itās just ok and might the job done if you catch them on a good day. Not sure where the hype comes from. Perhaps years ago...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI rely on Google reviews a lot to determine where to eat, so I did the same in Atlanta and was eager to try Dat Fire Jerk. The young lady at the counter was pleasant and friendly, but that's kind of where the accolades end. I'll say this; Jamaicans are the most critical of their food (much like other cultures) and I'm no different, so it's possible that's why my review is what it is. I ordered curry goat and it was NOT available because it's only cooked on certain days and Wednesday was not that day, which was surprising because this is a daily staple on most Jamaica menus. I got oxtails and cabbage salad instead and my nephew got jerk chicken and rice and peas. The oxtails looked good and the jerk chicken looked even better, but looks are definitely deceiving. Sadly both meals were NOT good because they lacked seasoning. Our food is known for spices and seasonings, so I'm shocked by how bland this food was. The jerk chicken did have a nice smoke, but the meat still needs seasoning to make it good. There's a sign posted in the restaurant about authentic Jamaican cabbage salad (or something), but there's nothing authentic about chopped up cabbage; no carrots and no flavoring. To say I was disappointed by the food at Dat Fire Jerk would be an...
