I was visiting Georgia from Florida on vacation. I decided to step out and enjoy myself by visiting well known tourist spots. Ponce City Market was on my list. My close friend and I went so I could experience it and what it has to offer. While walking around, we noticed Umbrella Bar. Now to be honest, I was skeptical because the signs was in a foreign language but nonetheless, we sat down and was met by Ivy. I seen the menu and noticed some familiar food. She was really sweet, courteous, informative, funny. and dope! I ordered the Bibimpap - Buttered Shrimp. I requested certain things to be take out. Now I will say, the Spicy Korean Sauce whooped my butt. LOL!! Literally left my nose running - that's how you know something is spicy but somehow I ordered the sauce and missed the "spicy" part of the Spicy Korean Sauce. Don't ask me how I managed to do that. Must've been the alcohol - LOL! She offered to bring me a different sauce which allowed me to be a "big back" because within seconds the food was done after that - LOL! The drink was great. I ordered the Pina Colada frozen drink and added alcohol to it. Ivy poured the right mixof everything! We were all making conversation and telling jokes. One thing I appreciated the most is her helping to charge my phone because as a Type 1 Diabetic, I need my phone to monitor my sugar and take insulin. She helped charge it, made bomb drinks, gave great suggestions, and provided amazing customer service too. The atmosphere is chilled, plenty room to dine and eat, a bit chilly inside, located on the 2nd floor near The Roof, and has great music too! Such a causal spot to go with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love great Korean style comfort foods, however, we noticed something tonight that I have never noticed before.
Firstly, we don't stop here for drinks at the "Bar" we stop here for well made korean food. We just happened to be in Seoul last summer with my korean family.
My dad ordered the shrimp skewers that came in a togo box with no skewer in sight. My son had the korean fried chicken. While it had great taste, it almost felt like it came from somewhere else! My wife had her favorite the Bulgogi tots! They were good, but the bulgogi lacked its normal flavor.
Then there was the gimbap/kimbap. There are several places I enjoy buying this classic korean dish. If you are interested, HMart Doraville, back by the kimchi section near the checkout, or the little food stall closest to the Tous Le Jour Bakery, Harue cafe in the same shopping center has the best gimbap in Atlanta.
WHY! would I spend $13.00 for you to cut the very ends off each side and watch you throw the best part of the gimbap roll in the garbage! Any Korean person knows that the ends of the roll, even though it is not the most pretty part, is the best part of the gimbap!
I really wanted to shout at the gentleman preparing our food, but I chose not to and thought maybe he just did not know.
I am not saying we will not come back, however I am saying don't throw perfectly good food in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI own a business in Ponce City Market. I few old colleagues stopped by to see me at my business Saturday. They wanted to have a drink so I ushered them to the Umbrella Bar. I have never been, as I only drink sociably and I am always working. We sat down at the bar, I grabbed a plastic sign holder with what I assumed was a paper menu stuck inside. I was immediately confronted by an aggressive Black lady, who took the sign out my hand while saying "Don't touch the sign!" I asked, isn't that the menu?" She said, "Yes, but you can't touch it, people been coming in here tearing up the signs." I said, "They are tearing up these hard plastic signs?" She then elevated her voice and said "Girl, just don't touch the sign!" I said, "Well, I can't see what's on the menu to order." She again said, "Don't touch the sign. You will have to look at it from here." At that point, we excused ourselves. I was embarrassed. One of my out of town guests, said, "So, it's true about the service in Atlanta?" The other said, "How do you tear up plastic sign? Those signs are all of 79 cents to replace." "Look at the money they lost over a 79 cent sign." I often refer people to The Umbrella Bar, when asked where to go to get a good drink, although I had never been myself. But, I will never send ANYONE their way gain!...
