I waited for my second visit to Dolce Mare at Ocean Casino Resort to write this review in hopes that it wasn’t a one hit wonder. It’s not. Second experience was just as good, if not better.
Upon walking in, you can clearly see that this restaurant boasts one of the best views of the Atlantic than most any other restaurant in AC. Get there while the sun is still up to take advantage of the view. The food is great. We started with raw bar selections, first time shrimp cocktail, second time lump crab. Both were delicious, but not unlike many other places we’ve been. Both times, we had the beet salad…so good the first time, we chose it again. Main courses on our first trip - veal with gnocchi – best gnocchi I’ve ever had…little seared puffs of potato pasta, yum. My bf had the veal parm (it’s his go-to and has to try it everywhere we go) – it was definitely held in decently high regard.
Second trip we were piglets and had a pasta dish before our dinner. We tried the papparadelle bolognese – wow, we would get this as a main course any time. Super tasty and nice quality to the meat. The pasta was cooked perfectly, if you’re a fan of al dente. Our main courses were diver scallops and surf and turf. Not a usual choice for us in an Italian restaurant (even with the name Dolce Mare – Sweet Sea), but “when at the shore!” Great choices, both of them. I ordered my scallops well done (I’m not fond of wibbily textures) and the chef knocked it out of the park. Interesting accompaniment of beans, carrots, endive. Very tasty. My bf enjoyed his filet, which was cooked medium to perfection. Deliciously crunchy sear to the meat and the lobster was very good as well. Sorry, no room for dessert, but I can tell you that many people were ordering it and they all looked amazing.
In addition to great food, this restaurant has a nice staff. We had Charles (Chuck) as our waiter and he was nothing but professional and accommodating yet he wasn’t too intrusive. The GM, Ryan, was ever present at the host stand, inside the kitchen (you can see it through glass) and checking tables. You can tell he cares very much about his restaurant, the food and the customer experience. Great job, because all in all, a fantastic experience both times. One quick warning though, if you are in a rush, this may not be your ideal dinner spot. The service is slow paced, but we never minded that as we enjoy a drawn out...
Read moreI am deeply distressed by the unwelcoming and blatantly rude treatment my party and I received at Ocean, particularly from the hostess Hannah, during a special occasion. We were there to celebrate my boyfriend's 25th birthday and his achievement of becoming a pilot. Despite making a reservation and specifying our needs, our experience was nothing short of discriminatory and unacceptable.
Upon arrival, we were initially seated at a table in the middle of the room that was completely unsuitable for my wheelchair, despite there being other available tables. When I requested to be relocated to a more spacious area, we were moved to another inadequate table where my wheelchair obstructed the path, causing waiters and guests to constantly trip over it.
I approached Hostess Hannah to request a move to one of the numerous vacant tables that were more wheelchair accessible. She returned after a significant delay to inform us that these tables were reserved, despite them remaining unoccupied and unprepared for over 30 minutes. She promised to assist further but never returned, leaving us to endure the ongoing safety hazard and disrespect.
This experience was not only disrespectful but also deeply hurtful to both myself and my boyfriend. We had previously admired Ocean for its inclusive environment and assistance with wheelchair accessibility, but this incident revealed a stark contrast. It is clear that guests with disabilities, like myself, are treated as mere inconveniences rather than valued patrons celebrating important milestones.
I am appalled that in 2024, such discriminatory practices are tolerated, especially towards paying and loyal customers. Ocean's disregard for our reservation details and the safety implications of my wheelchair being constantly tripped over reflect a profound lack of professionalism and compassion.
In conclusion, I strongly advise against dining at linguini by the sea at Ocean if you or anyone in your party has disabilities, uses a wheelchair or scooter, or expects respectful treatment while celebrating special occasions. This experience, and the hostess Hannah, has left us deeply disappointed and disheartened by what should have been a joyous celebration turned into a...
Read moreWent for a birthday dinner and received terrible service from Eva. 7pm reservation, got a drink and salad served promptly. We waited 50 min after salad was cleared for the entree--she never came back to the table during that time. Had to wave her down and asked her to check our overdue entrees and drinks. The reservation beside us arrived at 730 and received their food before us. i watched her across the dining room go to Manager who dropped our food, without a word.....no apologies from him, not a word, dropped food and walked away (what the hell kind of manager acts like that?). she came by 5 min later and i told her i was disappointed in the delay and she just said 'i told the manager'....she was terrible, obviously didn't want to be there. a few minutes later i pushed my food aside because it was not good--i ordered carbonara and it was obviously sitting in the window or something because it was very gummy and not good. i flagged her and asked her for the bill...she says..."No desert? well, i can take off your drinks' i told her that was not necessary-just bring the check so we can leave. she drops the check on the table without a word. Just a terrible server and terrible experience. ya know, people go to restaurants like this for a special occasion, she ruined it for us and is a terrible representation of your operation. The manager was just as bad. it doesn't take a lot to be nice especially when you are working for tips, i don't get it....she could have made 5x as much from us but unfortunately instead you have lost a customer for life. Eva...
