I had the Upper Cut Cheesesteak via takeout for lunch.
Location/Inside: Knuckle Sandwiches is located in downtown Augusta in a small storefront along Broad Street. Expect to have to park somewhere on Broad Street, and depending on time of day parking might be tight. The storefront is rather small, and the inside feels cramped. There are also only about 5 tables, that are all two seater. So if you are coming with a group do not expect to dine-in. There are a few tables outside, but seating overall is very limited. It seemed that takeout was the main source of business. This is also evidenced by the lack of trash can in the store. The store is decorated with boxing paraphernalia, which adds to the pun on the name.
Food: I had the Upper Cut Cheesesteak and it came with fries. A minor complain is that there is no soda fountain in the store, and all drinks are bottled via a refrigerator. Therefore, you are forced to buy a drink if you are dining in, adding to the cost. It would be nice if an option was for a cup of water. The food took 15 minutes to prepare, and I was there at noon. However, the food came out fresh and you could tell that all ingredients were prepared in-house. The mushrooms and peppers were cut unevenly, so you could tell they were done in-house. Ribeye was tender and the sandwich came on a large roll. Could have used a little more cheese in my opinion. All meals come with fries, and they are not a second thought. They are seasoned with sea salt, fresh ground pepper, and a seasoning that I thought was similar to a Cajun seasoning. The fires are also thicker cut, which I appreciate. The portion was very large, too much for a lunch probably.
Staff: No issues with staff, they were friendly...
Read moreDo not leave credit card tips, the employees don't receive them. Credit card tips go straight to the owner. Cash tips are divided amongst the manager/grill cook, fry cook, and cashier. Place has gone downhill since the original owner died. Im not sure what's up with this place, honestly, they keep hiring abusive managers (as in Lyssa, the most recent general manager with the pink and purple hair ASSAULTED A CUSTOMER), the new owner leads employees on and promises them general manager positions, then ghosts them and never responds, not even to say they found someone else. The PBR-B-Q, also, isnt braised with PBR anymore. That's why it doesn't taste the same. The fries are regular battered fries with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic and onion. The Thai ranch is Hidden Valley Ranch made with buttermilk instead of regular milk, and Sriracha. The BBQ sauce is the only thing that they actually make from scratch. All of the wings are prefried days in advance, nothing is really stored correctly, and a bunch of rats run around the kitchen and bathroom. They call him Henry, so if you hear someone screaming "dammit Henry " or "get lost henry", its not a ghost, its one of the rats that live in the ceiling. Oh, and they recently started covering the fryer because they found out the rats would go swimming in the fryer for the bits of fries and wings...
Read moreGreat Food, But Disappointing Customer Service
I recently ordered from Knuckle Sandwich Restaurant through Grubhub and while the food was undeniably delicious, I cannot overlook the disappointing customer service experience I encountered. Unfortunately, my order arrived with a missing sandwich, and upon contacting the restaurant directly, I was met with indifference. Rather than offering to rectify the mistake, they simply directed me to go through Grubhub. Thankfully, Grubhub promptly refunded me for the missing item, earning them five stars for their exceptional service.
Additionally, it's worth mentioning that last month, during the Masters, our office placed a large order for approximately 15 sandwiches with Knuckle Sandwich Restaurant. However, to our surprise, the order was outright rejected by the restaurant, leaving us scrambling to find an alternative at the last minute.
It's disheartening to see such a lack of accountability from Knuckle Sandwich Restaurant. While the food may be great, the same cannot be said for their customer service and reliability. I hope they take these feedback points constructively and strive to improve their operations...
