I really, really wanted our Mother's Day brunch to be a 5 star experience. I wish I could say it was. I'm happy to say it wasn't all bad, but it certainly wasn't all good. To start off, when we got to the restaurant they didn't have our reservation. They were apologetic and managed to sit us at two big round wedding reception type tables on the front sidewalk in front of the restaurant. The arrangement was far from ideal and made it hard to interact comfortably. Added to this, the noise from the nearby traffic made conversation difficult. As for the food, it was hit and miss - more miss than hit. Five of us ordered the Sweet & Salty (waffle/eggs/sausage/bacon), two ordered the French toast with eggs and ham, and one ordered the chicken & waffles. The orders came out very piecemeal. The French toast came out first, but it took 5-10 minutes to get the eggs and ham to go with it. The Sweet & Salty dishes came out next (not all together though) and lastly (at least 15-20 minutes later) my son's chicken & waffles. No one wanted to eat ahead of others, but the first served could have finished before the last even got their meals. I wish I could say that the quality of the dishes made up for the way it was delivered to us. It did not. I had one of the French toast meals, and I DID like the French toast, however the scrambled eggs were runny (to a fault) and completely unseasoned. We asked for S&P which helped a bit but the pepper grinder had a sticky substance on it so I chose not to use it. I ended up just not eating them. The ham looked like deli thin packaged slices, browned in a pan. My grandson said the bacon was very good (YAY). As for the waffles, some looked like Belgian waffles, but others were small, bland and truthfully looked like Eggo waffles. They must have two different waffle makers. They need to spring for a second Belgian waffle maker. When he finally got it, the chicken on my son's chicken & waffles was so dry he only ate a couple bites. The coffee that two of us ordered didn't come out until half way through the meal and then the requested sugar and cream came out 5 -10 minutes later. The sweet tea was good, but it tasted like it was flavored (maybe raspberry) which was fine, but was not what was ordered. The waitstaff were very kind and seemed to be trying hard. I felt sorry for them. I'm not sure where the problem lies. I think this establishment does catering and I assume they do well at it. The portion sizes were pretty generous, but I felt the prices were too high ($25-30 per entree), especially given the quality of the food. I'd like to say I'll give them another try, but it's really doubtful. We chose not to try and address the problems with management as there were just too many different things, and, being it was a busy Mother's Day, we didn't feel like we'd be successful in doing so. Heck, my son had to finally go into the restaurant and hunt someone down just to...
Read moreFirst time trying this restaurant. First off, they have posted on the door a 5% charge for cards. Secondly, you are met at the door by a person insisting you use hand sanitizer. I said no. She said I had to because they are CDC certified. Which means nothing, that certificate is for wait staff cook and kitchen. I should have left right then because it only got worse. I ordered coffee and water while I looked over the menu. The coffee was lukewarm at best and tasteless. Folgers would have been an improvement. I then ordered Avocado Toast. I’m not new to avocado toast but what I was served was an embarrassment. The bread was soggy, the avocado, no lie was one of those pre- made little cups spread on 3 pieces of soggy bread. The turkey was Wal-Mart deli meat. The feta cheese was barely there and the cook/owner doesn’t know how to cook sunny side up eggs. Further inspection of my meal i noticed corn and beans in my lack of avocado. I did not eat but one piece of soggy bread and asked for the check. The waitress asked if I wanted a to go box and I said no. She asked my why, so I told her. Then the owner/cook came to the table and tried to make this my fault by saying everyone cooks different. I get that but toast isn’t meant to be soggy and I’ve never eaten soggy avocado toast in my life. Then he tried to blame me saying he didn’t like the way i treated his staff because I didn’t want to use hand sanitizer. Not because i treated his staff poorly but because of hand sanitizer. I never complained about the food just wanted to pay to go somewhere better, like Waffle House. He tried to pull the CDC certification on me again, thinking im not educated. Then proceeds to ask if I wash my hands, what does that have to do with your lack of ability to cook decent food? So basically the food isn’t worth taking home to my dog, which is why I didn’t and over charges for everything including the privilege of entering his establishment. Furthermore, the wait staff stood around eating Bojangles in front of customers. Bojangles would have been an improvement. DO...
Read moreSo the business is black owned and I think female owned so I'm like let's go I'm so there. I have also heard good things so I was excited about going. The space is small (most places downtown are small) this one is very nice they have a dj and/or music playing, the owner/manager is very present which is very much a plus not sure if it's always that way but she was there the day I went and she was helping out. The wait was long bc they had two big parties which was fine. Our server was good I enjoyed her she was working hard this day bc I think there were only two servers that day. Now to the food: they are pretty pricey which I prepared for bc they have an online menu which is slightly cheaper than the actual menu, I got the brunch sampler which is just that -a sampler- you get small portions but for $40 bucks ....that is a bit much, frozen oj was $6 but it was store bought and store brand... it didn't taste like premium oj...just saying... the shrimp and grits-delicious, the chicken wing was pretty good...you can't go wrong with a sausage patty or a yogurt w/fruit; salmon patty was good and the sauce on it was pretty good but I also tasted tuna like it was mixed with tuna (not bad), the waffle tasted like the salmon patty and the French toast was okay....it is served on a wooden plate and (if they re use the plates) I think that could affect the flavors of the food bc they tend to absorb flavors, scents, or odors if hot food sits on it or bakes on it. It just may have been an off day....I plan on returning but just ordering something different. My guest had hepsy grits and hot chocolate which she enjoyed. We also had red velvet cake which was the best part of all the food. There was also an extra charge on the bill that was called a delivery fee which was explained to us as a credit card fee after we paid. It's not really posted anywhere or made known. It was odd that it wasn't a flat rate either everyone's fee was different. It was good but not as good as I thght it would be. I plan on returning so that this...
