I have eaten Greek food all my life and had high hopes. First of all...the atmosphere did not feel authentically Greek. The restaurant also smelled slightly of fish in the area where we sat near the kitchen. We started off with some Saganaki and it was a bit rubbery but worse off all, it was terribly salty. We were given a small plate of bread but had to ask for butter. Next we had some soup and salad. The wedge salad was good but the Avgolemono soup was not, it left a greasy film I had to wipe from my mouth. We ordered Dolmades, Pastichio and a side of potatoes. The Dolmades was ok but there was too much mint. Instead of Pastichio, I was given Moussaka. The Moussaka was mushy and had no real body to it. I had trouble eating it and was unable to finish. The entrees came with vegetables which were a mix of cooked just right and soggy. There was some redemption with desert. We ordered Bread Pudding which was really good. Overall, I believe the cost for the food is too high and would not recommend the food. I rated 2 stars because the overall service was good. After realizing my entree was wrong they removed the Moussaka from our bill and gave us an order of Pastichio to go without us asking for it. If you want good Greek food I recommend Greek Islands in Lombard. The ambiance is Greek and the food is much better. The prices are not cheap but are certainly more reasonable. Plus each entree comes with potatoes and they...
Read moreHope you like hornets in your food! The manager doesn't seem to mind.
For context, I sat outside around 7:00pm (getting dark out) and ordered the baked macaroni and cheese with lamb. The dish came out and the cheese formed a seal around the bowl. A little more than halfway in, I noticed something curled up and blackened. After unfurling it, I realized a literal hornet had been baked into my macaroni!
I called the waiter, who started off by saying they had a bee problem with their outside seating. Admittedly, I saw one fly by while eating, but we went when it was beginning to get dark out and bees are less active. He assumed this hornet (which was black from being cooked) crawled in while I was eating. After I explained the bug was black and was baked into the dish, he called for the manager.
The manager gave me a similar explanation and assumed this hornet crawled in while I was eating, cooked itself, and died in the bottom of my dish. I shown my phone's flashlight on the hornet to explain its color was due to being baked in their oven. She was mostly silent while I explained my dissatisfaction, and I was given a simple, "I'm sorry" while she remained silent for the most part. She only offered to waive the dish from my bill (no further compensation for me or my party) and didn't seem too alarmed by this. I know the bug had crawled in before the...
Read moreUnfortunately i was very disappointed i my visit to Basil today. I had not bern a a while and was in the area so went for a bite. I orde4ed pastichio and it was not good. It was dry and had np meat in it or so little it wad l8ke eating dry bad mac and cheese. My husband had the lamb burger and the was more beef then lamb. I get cutting the lamb as it xan be a little much for some but the burger was too big and lacking the lamb flavor you expect 8n a lamb burger . As a good cook i will always vote flavor and texture over quantity. Besides my pastichio being priced at 18.00. Again very disappointed. Will not be going back . The waitress also over billed us about 6.50. The bill was 51.03 and the credit receipt was for 57.?? I thought i was not see8ng the number correctly and i asked my husband why one receipt saud 51.03 and 5he one he was about to sign said 57.??. Anyway found the waitress and she mumbled something and appologized and we got the receipt for 51.03 . They did not give us any credit due to the bad pastichio i ordered even though i brought it their attention about no meat in the dish that cost 18.00... sorry i have not a good review for this place as i was one of my...
