I regularly find the need to get into Austin for work purposes but where possible I try to swing by Cedar Street Courtyard to watch the Waynes World 80's era inspired Spazmatics show. As a general rule most of the attendees were around at the time the music was made and so the audience is usually in full chorus along with the band. In more recent time they have upgraded the venue with new lights, ticket office and the LED lighting screen behind the band which does offer a longer term commitment to their ability to provide entertainment however it does somehow feel like a break from the low budget effects that would and shold be associated with the 80's Wayne's World feel that the spazmatics show demands. For other shows it however makes plenty of sense. While they are spending good money on the facilities generally, the restrooms are still quite poor in that they dont feel clean, they are small and generally would be better suited in the classic dive bar.

Read moreLarge area to dance when an electronic show is there, which I loved to death! Didn't expect it to be so large.
Bathrooms are unisex and closed off entirely giving you privacy for number one and two.
I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 because when I walked up to have a smoke (you have to step outside) the security guard grabbed my drink out of my hands with no statement. I was completely sober and on my first drink of the night. I turned to him and said "Man, I'm literally smoking and going back in. Can't you see I have a cigarette in my hand?" He just held a shock expression on his face, no apology or a word. The other security guard on the other staircase called me over and said "hey man, I'm sorry he did that without asking. Go back down when you're done smoking and tell the bartender I told them to give you a drink because of what happened.
This other security guard saved a bad review -- thanks for a great night at my first...
Read moreThis place has potential. The reason for my 2-star rating is due to their sound system for electronic events and DJ's. I saw J.Phlip, Tale of Us, and Maceo Plex there and each time the sound was very underwhelming and disappointing. With a genre like house/techno that relies heavily on the sonic experience, a solid sound system is paramount. I don't know if it's because it is an open air venue, but I would suggest analyzing the acoustics of the place and investing in the appropriate equipment. This is just my two cents because I have specifically not gone to this venue when there is a DJ I like that is in town because of the system. Otherwise, everything else is great. I like the atmosphere and the aesthetic, but the only reason I go is to experience the music of which the sound is of...
