Mezze Cafe - Mediterranean Grill & Hookah Lounge (Downtown) — Restaurant in Austin

Was a little confused with this spot. It was a cool place, the hookah was good, the falafel wrap was okay, fries were good but….. the service was not great at all. After leaving I realized I got overcharged by about $6 too. When we got our food (and thought we were just gonna get cups of water but got weird cheap bottled water) the waitress never came back one time. Literally not once. The guy came and switched our coals out for the hookah and seemed nice but still was a really strange experience. I was excited after seeing the cool patio and you could smoke hookah (I haven’t in a fee years but sometimes feel like it). Not to mention this whole experience was all on my birthday. We went to a spot where no one barely looked at us. Super odd. I gave two stars instead of one because the hookah and environment were good. The fries were pretty good. I’ve had a lot of falafel wraps though and honestly it was definitely on the bottom of my list of quality ones. It wasn’t bad just not great at all. I’d be willing to maybe give it one more try because it seems like a place I WOULD like and hoping it was maybe just an off-day (wish it wasn’t on my bday though). I definitely am going to check my receipt before I leave next time though. Felt like the gal was watching me entering my tip too (I still didn’t leave a bad tip despite never being checked on). I want to say thank you for the hospitality from the entire staff here. I flew in Tuesday for a business trip and came in early to get work done. I met Farah, and she took very good care of me! Recommended some items and specials off the menu and was very attentive to my needs in the few hours I was there!

The following day, I met Adel, and he and I had great conversations snout the business, he hookah industry and most importantly, the atmosphere at Mezze Cafe. He walks around and checks with all the tables to ensure they are offering the best customer service.

The next time a visited, I met with Hussam. Also another great time and great convos as they attended to customers and myself. He recommended the Knafe- and I will give you a tip, the best I have had in my life. There is something about the texture and the taste that I will never forget. I can still taste it!

Bottom line- the attentiveness From the staff I met along with others that were working those days was phenomenal. It’s rare to get that much attention and care at a lounge. After waiting about 1.5 hours for our Mega tray (or whatever they called it), we were served a mess of a tray with all meats piled up on top of each other. To add to that, the kitchen had apparently took the liberty to replace our order with whatever they had available without even asking us.

When we asked to see what's going on, we didn't even get an apology, instead they told us we can take a 15% discount or wait another 50 minutes to get another order. This was already 11:40pm.

Eventually after a lot of talking, they accepted that we shouldn't pay for the drinks and a few side dishes that were coming with the main entry. The waitress ended up counting the meat on the tray to make sure we didn't touch it. That was a cheap but super funny move!

At last, the manager there told us that we are short staffed with 5 people working there and that they can't get to everyone dining there. But honestly, that's not the customer's problem. If they give us a table, we expect to be served with respect and not be left alone for 1.5 hours to eventually get the wrong order and a 15%...
