To preface, my rescue dog has gone to dog parks weekly, and several other dog friendly restaurants all over San Antonio. This place was exceptionally bad service and didn’t seem to have intelligent staff. Not truly pet friendly unless you have a dog that fits in a handbag, some guys were smoking weed joint on the copperhead patio and started barking at my German shepherd, which startled her because they were sitting behind us(what kind of grown man barks at a dog) she barked back, and the immature dudes went inside.
After watching servers walking by and dropping off food/drinks for other tables, We asked a busboy if we can order drinks outside, he told us we could bring our dogs inside to order. My friend’s weenie dog barked inside, nobody said anything to her. Later when the copperhead bald headed bartender came by our table on the patio, swinging a bus bin, he tried petting my dog WITHOUT PERMISSION from behind, again startling her(who tries to touch an animal from behind?) he scurried inside while we just stared at him. Again, my friends weenie dog also was barking.
Then a while later now the female server came by and made a snide comment that the dog is “scary”. My friend asked her why she felt the need to say something rude, and the girl was super snide instead of having any semblance of customer service. We finished our food and went inside about fifteen minutes later for another round. The bald headed guy that tried petting my dog told us we had to close our tabs and leave, I said “why because you tried petting a dog without asking?dogs can’t bark here?” And he immediately ignored us, striking up a conversation with a guy at the bar. Then he made us wait another five minutes before trying to close us out. My friend asked for their names and where to lodge a complaint, he refused to give us any names and said to ask the blonde bartender girl.
Go to Yardbar instead, they actually have staff with dog etiquette and it’s a dog friendly atmosphere with better drinks. Shame, because this place had great food, but the service has gone downhill from when I used to come with other crowds and had great service. I only wish we were able to get a business card or manager instead of dealing with these rude people. Would love for someone higher up to reach out or someone be held accountable for allowing other patrons to BARK AND YELL at a dog, but...
Read moreThe Jackalope has a reckless disregard for customer safety.
I've visited this location on numerous occasions with my co-workers and friends. I've also visited the original downtown location on 6th Street.
I've found the Jackalope to be generally a hipster overpriced bar. However, it has a nice outdoor area with games and plenty of tables to sit at and a variety of people gathering.
I've heard of friends having poor experiences at this location and the downtown location however I so infrequently visit bars I decided to choose this location for my going away party because of its proximity to the city and my work location. In addition, I had several prior rather positive experiences.
A few highlights of my in-depth review,
--this location has no contact number. --this places a hold on your card as soon as you hand it to them. --a member of the staff said, "usually when I'm aggressive that motivates people to get going." --a member of my party (my girlfriend) was throwing up and the bartender suggested I force their head up. --a member of my party (my girlfriend) no longer has their glasses because the bar mysteriously "lost" them. --while engaging me the staff member repeatedly pulled his phone out to text. --the staff member continually provided extremely harmful advice such as forcing the head of a vomiting individual and putting them in an Uber while actively throwing up which demonstrates a disregard for safety and is absolutely against medical advice.
In short, this restaurant/bar has a reckless disregard for customer safety at any expense. I'm extremely glad I was there for my girlfriend as it could have ended with her death if someone had followed the advice of the bar staff who claimed only to have the safety of my girlfriend in mind while repeatedly asking our party to leave the property.
I apologize that full review could not fit here. It was way too long of a story once I wrote it out.

Read moreFinal Edit: I'm so glad to share that the management has handled this incredibly well. After an initial email exchange I received a call from a manager that explained the true context of the situation. They shared multiple steps they took to resolve it and preventing it from happening again.
Luckily, the singer was able to address it with them as well that night. It was clarified that an audience member was the person harassing the singer with the photos and they were removed from the premises. My initial (false) impression of the hosts mocking was actually friendly banter between the two as they know one another and the host had not yet seen the image that caused the singer to leave.
Please note this next section of the review was before I had the full scope of the situation. I'm leaving an edited version up to show that the management handled this in a way that should be modeled at all establishments.
I had a disappointing experience at this location after an initially enjoyable evening. I'd like to note all other staff were awesome and the establishment was a great experience.
While attending karaoke, the screen (not the host as initially thought) displayed increasingly inappropriate images, culminating in a deeply offensive photo of George Floyd with the caption "Pink Floyd" during a Black singer's performance.
The atmosphere became uncomfortable, leading my friend and me to leave. The singer and her partner also left immediately. I hope management addresses this behavior to ensure a welcoming environment...
