I am actually born and raised in Austin. Buzzmill has been one of my favorite places to go for years, and I have invited many people and told many people about it. Tonight my experience was 1 star, and I am so sad that such an Austin staple has degraded to such a level. I came with my daughter for Witches market night, something we frequently attend. We came expecting to eat dinner and shop. It was quite crowded and there was only one food truck open. It was the buzzmill burger truck, which has always been a favorite of mine and one I reccomend for vegetarian options. We stood in line for a long time and when we got there we found, that even tho the side of the truck says there are vegetarian options, they fry it all in the same oil as the real meat. If I hadn't have asked, we wouldn't have known, and both my toddler and I would have gotten very sick to our stomachs. Not to mention how offensive that is to people who are vegetarian for moral reasons. Dishonesty about food options is a really big deal. I was polite and said, you know there should be a sign on the truck to let people know, because you are advertising vegetarian, yet none of this is vegetarian. The man was very polite and said, yes they should put up signs. We went inside and stood in another line to get some food, at this point we had stood in line for 30 min, and all that was available was cupcakes. I mentioned to the cashier/bartender what our experience had been, just to make sure that something was done about this, so others wouldn't have to have the same experience. I was very polite about it and yet I was met first with argumentativeness, gaslighting and then dismissal. For reference, the female had black hair, heavy eye make-up and blunt bangs and looked to be in her 20s maybe. First she came back with, well thats why it doesn't say there are vegan options. I said, I know, it says vegetarian options. She said, that is vegetarian. My response, "no, something fried in meat fat is not vegetarian." ( do we really not know what vegetarian is in this day and age?) Then she rolled her eyes and huffed and said whatever and walked off while our transaction at the cash register was still in progress. I treat people with respect, always, and I have never felt so disrespected in my life. I have to ask, is this girl from here even? That seems very out of sync with an austin experience. Is this the type of thing that should be expected at Buzzmills now? If so, that's extremely disappointing. Not only that, but this is supposed to be a Witches market. Something that centers around divine feminine and magic. There are those of us who strictly can't eat meat. The lack of support within a feminine environment is also very disappointing and out of place. Not only that, I did not get to shop my brothers and sisters wares as the energy was thrown off after that, and my little cub who is very sensitive to energies was now hungry as well. Please remove that kind of energy from that place, or let us know that is no longer a place to visit. Thank you. Hope to be able to...
Read moreI’ve been coming to Buzzmill for almost 3 years to study, get some coffee, and now get some drinks. I went in on Sunday with a friend and ended up running into some other friends there. The initial friend and I started a tab together and drank as the night went on. We thought we were having a good time as the staff was friendly. Until we went to go pay our tab.
We were overcharged and as you can see overserved. The friend and I were still cognitive enough to function and pay our tab. The bartenders gained an attitude as we tried to pay. The card declined but it still took all I had from my account so I then transferred money to pay it off, but it wanted the total balance again. I finished paying and left, thinking nothing of it.
Until again, one of the friends we ran into told us why they started acting that way. We ran up the biggest bar tab they had seen (that’s what happens when you overcharge inebriated people) & that we tried leaving without paying our tab. Also, that the bartender(s) were complaining about making us complicated drinks even though the most complicated drink i ordered was a Bloody Mary Bear Mace infusion (which the bartender recommended). They didn’t have certain items for shots we wanted, so we just ended up getting regular shots (vodka, jameson).
Overall, this visit ended up being a mess and really could’ve ended up in alcohol poisoning or much worse. I got overcharged and now instead of buzz being the first place I want to go for a chill night, it won’t be on my list again. A fkn shame bc I loved this place and their atmosphere.

Read moreSummary: neat place, lots of beer choices, good music, very community oriented. The details: Located just over the Colorado River from downtown Austin, the Buzzmill is pretty much walking distance to most things downtown and just south of downtown. Certainly within electric scooter distance. We went on a Sunday around noon, my wife wanted to try the vegan Plow burger that they offer. She ordered it with fries. I had a ginger beer brew. Our 16 month old was with us and I will say that while we felt welcome overall, a kid of any age is out of place at least inside where the bar is. Seating inside is limited, so if you have a large party plan on being outside where the smokers seem to take up residence. There are fans outside with misters so even on a hot day, outside works. My wife's food came in about 10 minutes. The fries were very tasty and while she offered me a bite of her bunless burger ( they were out of gluten free buns ) I passed up the treat for two reasons.. #1) I don't do fauxmeat and #2) it smelled horrible. She did enjoy it even without the bun. The crowd was downtown hipsters long haired trendy dudes. There was also an adorable black lab who I was told didn't do well around kids so I didn't get a chance pet her. See the pics for the "burger" and atmosphere. We will not be back, it's not our crowd but looks like a great place for the right group of younger folks looking for a good brew and decent 80s...
