I'll start by saying the brisket and ribs here are top notch- easily competitive with the best Austin has to offer. I've had every meat they offer with the exception of the bacon. The turkey and pulled pork are good, but nothing spectacular. I've had better pulled pork from quite a few other places, but I usually don't get turkey so it's hard to compare that. The sausage is very good as well, but the casing on it is too tough and can even be a bit hard to chew through.
As of 2023 they have moved from the Buzzmill on E. Riverside to E. Cesar Chavez. With this move it appears they have gotten rid of the plate specials that would come with 2 or 3 meats and two sides. Now everything is sold by the pound and the sides sold separately, and as expected, it costs a lot more for a meal. You'll get less food and spend quite a bit more money than before. I'm not talking normal inflation increases, but it will cost more than 1.5x as much, if not closer to 2x than it did when they had the plate deals.
At this new location they have been able to add Mac and Cheese along with banana pudding. The Mac and Cheese was terrific with a crumble on top and it had a bit of a spice, which really elevated it. It's good that they added this Mac and Cheese because their other sides are a bit lack luster. The green beans taste like canned green beans with bacon added, the potato salad is your normal every day fare, and the pinto beans while good, are a bit underwhelming coming from a BBQ joint.
The service here is great- always friendly and usually fast as well. It's just a shame they got rid of their plate specials because you could go to this place and spend a lot less money than other top Austin BBQ joints for the same quality (if not better) meats. Now,...
Read moreHey guys,
I want to apologize for leaving multiple bad reviews under different Google accounts that I own. I would remove the first review I made under "nipple teasin" but I cant remember my password. Unfortunately the McDonalds by my house stopped making the McRib and that's the sandwich that my mom uses to sneak me my medication. When I haven't had my meds I spend most of my free time giving one star reviews to small businesses that are doing really well because I want to see large corporations continue to take over the world and make more mediocre products. I hope that one day my actions will help lead the holy trinity (Jeff, Bill, and Elon) to a complete takeover. Only then will we see capitalism in its truest form and only then will we create the potential to make the McRib even better. Please forgive me for taking away your perfect 5 star review. Deep down we all know that JNL Barbecue makes 10/10 world class bbq that will genuinely change your life. Get there early though!!! This place sells out every single...
Read moreRun don’t walk to JNL Barbecue at Buzz Mill off E. Riverside. Today, I decided to treat myself with an adult beverage and lunch. Once I read about JNL, I just had to try it and they did not disappoint. I got the Peach Glazed Pork Belly with a single order of Cole Slaw. The slaw was vinegar based and so tasty I ate it quicker than I anticipated. The pork belly did not let me down either. I am a sucker for a piece of fatty meat and I can’t say enough good things about this dish. The peach taste was perfect. It was just the right sweetness and vinegar blend to make it a perfect combination with the pork. I asked for the barbecue sauce to try and the peach and pork also worked well with the sauce. I could actually just eat the sauce with a spoon though if I wanted to. All that food was under $20! This plate paired great with the strawberry jalapeño tequila...
