So, I hardly ever leave reviews, unless I feel that it's absolutely worth while to really help someone make a decision about something. And I don't like to bash anyone either. However, I HAVE to leave one for this place. I'm on love with good seafood, and even more so, with a good ribeye steak. A good steak and seafood, in my opinion, are worth every dollar spent. And for this place, I have to say their flavors are great. Because I haven't been here before, I tried a couple of things. I was in the mood for seafood, but I didn't feel like driving way up north today for my favorite, Which is always very expensive. So I decided to try this place out, because it sounded pretty good, plus, it came up on my search for one of the best mahi mahi plates. So, my mom ordered the mahi mahi, and it was good. Great flavor. Since I could take a bite of hers, I ordered tilapia tacos and a ribeye steak plate. The tacos were pretty good, but the steak, not so much. They offer poboys, tacos and salads with the same proteins that you can get in a plate. If you're wanting a good steak, theirs is probably good for a salad, taco or poboy, but not a plate. Their steak is not what you'd expect for a steak. It's a very thin cut. The kind where it shouldn't even be an option as to how you wanted it cooked. If you like a good medium rare steak, this is NOT your place. The flavor was good, but the cut of meat is not fit anything more than one that goes on a salad. Definitely not a $25 steak. Just make sure you're not going for a juicy steak when eating here. You won't get it. If all you care about is the flavor, then by all means, get your steak here. As for the bar, they really only seem to care about the patrons that are actually sitting at the bar. You'll have to go up to or towards the bar to order your own. They'll greet you when you walk in, but that's about it. I'll post a pic of my steak if it'll allow me to. So, all in all, not stoked about my experience...
Read moreI ordered a fried catfish po-boy, Cajun Corn, and a bottle of Coke. My total bill was about $21. The Cajun Corn alone was 4.00, it turned out not to be worth it.
The girl at the walk-up window who took my order was happy to take my order. She was patient with me while I figured out what I side I wanted with my po-boy. I choose to sit outside. It took about 15 minutes for my food to be brought out to me.
I was plesantly surprised at how large the po-boy was, overflowing with different vegetable toppings. The fish was spiced well, was crunchy, and hot. The toppings appeared fresh and added a little flavor to the sandwhich. I could have ate only half the sandwhich and been full.
The Cajun Corn consisted of a lone ear of corn served in a brown liquid in a basket. There was no real flavor to the corn or the liquid it was served in. The corn was neither hot, nor crunchy. The way the corn was served was not appealing to the eye. There was absolutely nothing special about the corn, it was definitely not worth the price.
Would I eat here again? Yes, the po-boy was well worth it, and the service was good. I would not, however, order a side or a beverage to go along with the sandwhich. The corn and the overall cost of the meal are the reasons I'm giving the restaurant...
Read moreI discovered this place during a happy hour at Lavaca Street Bar late last year, and I have to say, it's probably the first restaurant I actually enjoyed since moving here. The staff is really friendly. As most people probably do, I judge a place based on the small things: cleanliness, good menu options, and friendly staff. The guys behind the counter go out of their way to be nice to customers, and this level of customer service is definitely rare.
The menu is pretty good, but I always go back for the shrimp po' boy and cilantro fries. Either I'm easy to impress, or their cilantro fries are a near-spiritual experience. They don't skimp on the cilantro, like some other places do. Seriously, cilantro is plentiful and mad cheap, so why act like it's a rare ingredient?
I'm a little less crazy about the po' boy, but it's really good as well. I just wish they would get different pickles and change the tartar sauce, because the sauce is way too sweet. Aside from that, it's a really nice spot, and the fact that they stay open late is appreciated as well.
It used to be a food truck, and still charges like one, but the food is...
