East Austin just got a serious upgrade with Twin Isle, the new brick-and-mortar from Chef Janelle Romeo (of Miss Shirley’s food truck). She’s a native of Trinidad & Tobago, and the flavors here taste exactly like sitting in a family kitchen back home.

The space is small and cozy, with bright carnival colors (yellows, blues, oranges) that set the mood. It’s counter-style with just a few seats, but honestly, the food is the main event.

The menu is a mix of street food favorites (doubles, aloo pie, roti wraps) and comfort mains (macaroni pie, stew oxtail, curry goat). Prices are mid-range, portions lean smaller, but everything is fresh and made from scratch.

I ordered a mac pie + curry chicken bowl with fried plantain, pineapple chow, pepper sauce, and culantro sauce plus a cold cream solo. My husband had the goat roti wrap (medium spice) with sorrel to-go. Both were flavorful, authentic, and worth every bite.

Yes, the food took a little while to come out, but they had a small staff working hard and the quality made it worth the wait.

Having tried most of the Caribbean food in Austin, I can confidently say Twin Isle is the first place that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Canje when it comes to food quality.

The oxtails are some of the best and most affordable I’ve found in this area, making the drive from far east Pflugerville well worth it. Every dish I’ve tried has been served piping hot, bursting with flavor, and prepared with care, love, and a touch of soul. Twin Isle is one of my favorite spots for authentic Caribbean home-cooked meals and street food. Standout dishes like the vegan doubles and the shark sandwich (I believe that’s the name) are always a hit with me, and everything tastes like it’s made from scratch. The staff and owner/chef are consistently friendly, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This place stands out from the others in Austin, and I could easily eat there every day. Trust me this place is legit and I'm writing this review because I really, really love the food and I can't find food that is as consistent as this place. I'm not a food critic, but this food will make me dance in my seat like I'm a 5 year old kid getting ice cream.Sorry I don't have photos of the food I've ate because I like to eat my food hot and eating the food when It comes out is more important to me that writing this LOL. But I'm just a regular guy who loves flavorful food. I WISH the doubles were sold on week days and that I didn't have to drive so far to get this type of food but again the drive is...

I stopped by Twin Isle on a whim, and honestly—this place blew me away. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel genuinely welcomed. They took the time to walk me through the menu, shared a few of their favorites, and even helped me choose a bowl that perfectly fit what I was craving.

The bowl I ended up ordering was insanely flavorful—every bite tasted fresh, balanced, and full of authentic Caribbean flavor. You can really tell they take pride in what they make here. The ingredients were vibrant, perfectly seasoned, and came together like something crafted with love, not rushed out of a kitchen.

What really stood out beyond the food was the customer service—top tier, no question. The team was warm, patient, and you could tell they actually cared that I had a great experience. It’s rare to find that kind of energy these days.

If you’re looking for a place in Austin that hits the sweet spot between flavor, Caribbean authenticity, and genuine hospitality—Twin Isle is it. I’ll definitely be back to try more...

My mom and I loved Twin Isle! Both of my grandparents were from Trinidad and Tobago, so I grew up eating roti, curry chicken with potatoes, plantains, and doubles and this tasted exactly like how we had it growing up. It was like being at my grandma’s house again. I really appreciate how the restaurant is set up in a “build your bowl” or “build your wrap” style. It makes traditional Trinidadian food approachable and convenient, kind of like a Chipotle-style setup but with way more soul. The owner was so kind and clearly puts in an incredible amount of work. Anyone who’s ever made dhalpuri roti knows how time-consuming it is, and she nails it. The space itself is bright, clean, and inviting, with minimal bar seating inside and a few tables out on the patio. Street parking is the main option, so keep that in mind. Overall, a truly special spot that brings authentic Caribbean flavors to Austin. We can’t wait to come back!

Twin Isle Caribbean Restaurant, a new gem for my wife and me, offers an authentic taste of Trinidadian cuisine with just the right amount of love. The owner chef and her staff are incredibly polite, courteous, and engaging, making every customer feel valued and appreciated. The ambiance is reminiscent of a cozy Caribbean restaurant nestled on a Caribbean island, creating a truly immersive dining experience. If you’re a fan of authentic Caribbean cuisine, Twin Isle is a must-visit. I wholeheartedly recommend giving it an A++. You can call ahead and order your food for pickup.
