A Charming Stopover: Cafe Smitten in Bakersfield Location: 909 18th St, Bakersfield, CA Nestled in the heart of Bakersfield, Cafe Smitten exudes a charming, hippie-inspired vibe that's sure to win over any visitor. Here's why this cozy cafe left a lasting impression on me: As I pulled into the parking lot, I couldn't help but admire the eclectic exterior of Cafe Smitten. Once inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere immediately enveloped me, with a laid-back ambiance that felt like a breath of fresh air. The menu offered a delightful array of options, ranging from artisanal coffee creations to wholesome breakfast and lunch items. I opted for a classic latte and a hearty sandwich, both of which exceeded my expectations in terms of flavor and quality. One of the highlights of Cafe Smitten was the ample seating options available, from cozy indoor tables to spacious outdoor patio seating. Whether you're looking to catch up with friends over coffee or simply enjoy a moment of solitude, there's a spot for everyone to relax and unwind. Despite its unassuming appearance, Cafe Smitten boasts a level of hospitality and attention to detail that sets it apart from other cafes in the area. The friendly staff were eager to ensure that my visit was nothing short of exceptional, making me feel right at home from the moment I walked in. In conclusion, Cafe Smitten is a hidden gem in Bakersfield that's well worth a visit. Whether you're a local looking for your new go-to spot or just passing through town, be sure to carve out some time to experience the charm and hospitality of Cafe Smitten for yourself.

Delicious food but please consider hiring friendly staff. This morning my waitress in the sleeve tattoos was very rude and ignored my question after bringing my diet coke. A few minutes later, the same waitress brought my avocado toast and ‘quickly’ walked away in a rude and condescending manner ignoring my comment on how lovely the day is. I don’t sense a good energy from staff in general even as i kindly got up and asked for Cholula hot sauce. The food keeps me coming back because it’s amazing & quality, but please consider giving the staff a training on the importance of being kind to customers or hire friendly staff who are ‘naturally’ kind and serve with a passion, instead of just for a paycheck. This place is hip but no so much the attitude of the staff. At the end of the day, ‘kindness’ can make a business much more attractive to customers just like Chick-fl-A. Thank you for reading my comment & God Bless.

Update - I am still loving this spot - I visit almost every time I head into Bakersfield, whether it's for lunch or just for a beverage. My favorite is still the vegan portabella sandwich, with the vegan burrito at a close second. For a drink, you can't go wrong with their matcha latte (note- it's a bit on the sweeter side). They seem to run out of the vegan baked goods rather quick; the few times I got them, they were great. I brought my family here as well and they enjoyed the non-vegan items quite a bit! ------ What to expect? A menu catered to a variety of diets, free WiFi, plenty of seating, (inside and out) clean bathrooms, free parking, not the lowest prices - but quality products. I will definitely be back when in the area!

My wife always raves about Cafe Smitten, but I haven't really been there or tried anything. However, today, that changed. My wife wanted to get a Mint Lemonade and I was hungry. So, we ordered ahead online for pickup and the one thing on the menu that really caught my eye was the Breakfast Burrito. Breakfast burritos are my favorite breakfast food and I also enjoy them throughout the day. So, I decided to give Cafe Smitten a chance and ordered their unique Breakfast Burrito (customized to my optimal preferences, of course).

When we picked up the food and I got my burrito, it was in a nice package, including being wrapped in foil to keep it warm. When I saw the actual burrito, I was surprised how much bigger it was than I expected! After the first few bites, I knew I had something special. It was packed full and the flavor was amazing. Additionally, one of my pet peeves about burritos is when the ingredients are not evenly distributed - and this burrito was the complete opposite of that. Everything was so evenly mixed that I got all the ingredients with almost every bite. About 2/3 of the way through the burrito, I was full - which, for those who know me, know that is a feat in itself. One thing I appreciated after eating it was that it was not greasy, like most breakfast burritos.

All day today I have been telling people how good that burrito was, so I decided to write a review about it. Thank you, Cafe Smitten, for such an unexpected...

I was hungry and passing by. I made a u-turn and went back because I hadn't seen the place before, and there were a lot of cars in the lot. I was checking out the menu board, and having some difficulty due to my old eyes. There were a couple of women in front of me. Some skinny guy with a beard got up from where he was chatting with another guy, and asked I think the ladies wanted to see a menu. He then barged in front of me, in reaching to get them their menus, and almost bumped into me in the process. He handed them the menus, and then went back to the table and struck up his conversation again. He said nothing to "me," didn't ask if "I" wanted to see a menu, no excuse me for coming close enough to make me move in order to get the ladies their menus, etc. The girl with the floppy hat and tats, at the register didn't made no effort to say something like "first time here," "can I answer some questions for," or anything similar. Felt very uncomforable, and at 10 bucks for a sandwich that's not what I want to feel before I order. So I split. Won't be back. Saving the appetite for happy hour at La Costa Mariscos. Much better service, great happy hour prices, and food already know to be of high quality. Smell you later,...
