Loved the drinks, the food, the atmosphere.. the service though was horrible I asked the bartender what was the spicy G in the mac and cheese, had such an attitude about it like he couldn't be bothered told me he didn't know, then described that sriracha is mixed. My friends and I could see the irritation in his face. Then the female bartender did the same when she walked over to our table.. we didn't get water until we asked for it 3 hours later. If customers are consuming lots of alcoholic beverages and eating spicy food water should be given. I asked for aioli her immidiate response was I don't think we can get anything from the kitchen they are closing, this is as she is dropping off some food we ordered so obviously the kitchen isn't closed and getting me some sauce mixed with mayo that's all pre made in a squeeze bottle isn't going to take 5 minutes and is not hard work. She never returned to see is we needed drink refills, we didn't get water refills. My friend had to go to the bar to order another glass of wine. We were ready to go an hour before, but was trying to figure out how to get our bill as our server/ bartender was sitting and talking to another person telling her oh I got to get up, if I could hear her she could hear us talking about how do we get our bill. All she had to do was go get it, but we were there for another hour until it was time to close for her to bring our bill over, then say she can't seperate checks. I work in the hospitality industry. All POS systems allow you to separate checks. So we work it out for her and tell her which items on which card then she swipes the wrong cards, has the nerve to look irritated because we told her to switch it. saying she has to do a refund and it's going to take time. Also note the bartenders were drinking behind the bar. I would sure hope the bartenders are licenced to serve alcohol coz their behaviour didn't show it. Drinking behind the bar, not serving water to customers who are possibly intoxicated, not checking ID's. I hope the owner see's this. I would go back, but walk right out if it is the...
Read moreHad gone here with friends, it's a small, kind of hole in the wall place, but it's cozy with warm, dark, and slightly moody ambience. It's a tight space with how popular it is. There's table, bar, and outdoor seating. Sat at the bar and that was nice, it was easier to get your order in. Seats are comfortable for bar stools. People who can't get a seat at the bar can just stand by it. There's a bathroom inside, but I didn't personally use it. In terms of drinks: alien love call, ginger beer (non-alcoholic), and sansho the bailiff. I recommend all three, but if I had to choose just one to drink again, it would definitely be the alien love call. Maybe it's because I'm biased towards floral flavors. It was quite light and couldn't quite taste the alcohol. I could probably drink 50 of those. Sansho the bailiff - heavy on the rum, but fun flavor combo. If you've never had ginger beer, it's like spicy ginger ale. In terms of food, we got these wings and they were hella good - super crispy and I think they had honey drizzled on them. The blue cheese dip was super creamy and not as bitter as I thought it would be. It paired well with the wings. I forgot to take a picture of the beet burger I had, but I was pleasantly surprised by it's quality. I'd order it again + didn't really taste the beet in it, but that's my...
Read moreSo last night, I stopped into this cocktail bar called Sugarvale on Madison Street. The place is small but cute — cozy, stylish, the kind of spot that makes you feel like you’re cooler than you really are just by being there. The prices? Way more reasonable than I expected. The cocktails? Chef’s kiss — flavorful, balanced, and definitely crafted by someone who knows their bitters from their simple syrup.
But then… there was Heather.
Now, I’m not saying Heather was actually chewing on Sour Patch Kids, but based on the sourness of her attitude, I wouldn’t be surprised if she had a whole economy-sized bag stashed behind the bar. She served sass with a twist of lemon — and not the good kind that comes in your drink.
To the owner: might I suggest supplying Heather with a candy that better reflects the sweet vibe of your establishment? Perhaps a few See’s Candies Milk Chocolate Truffles — rich, smooth, and incapable of side-eyeing a paying customer. Or even a good old Snickers — because clearly, she’s not herself when she’s hungry.
Despite the sour service, I’d still go back. Sugarvale’s drinks make up for a lot… but next time, I hope Heather’s rocking more sugar...
