Building a broader Stoop By Amanda Yeager, Baltimore Sun In Pigtown, Paige Stamerro wants to bring the camaraderie of stoop sitting to her new coffee shop.ā©The cafe, fittingly called The Stoop, held a soft opening Friday at 784 Washington Blvd., filling a vacancy left by the departure of Zekeās Coffee in February.ā©Stamerro, a former teacher and journalist who now works in commercial real estate, said interactions with her neighbors on the front stoop were a lifeline when she and her husband, Julian, moved to Baltimore from Washington, D.C., a decade ago.ā©āI knew no one at all, so the stoop has really been the core of how we built community here,ā she said.ā©The coffee shop will be open to the outdoors as much as possible, and Stamerro is applying for an outdoor space grant from the Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC) to set up sidewalk seating out front as well as a backyard patio. She also brought the outdoors in with touches of greenery in the decor and window seats to encourage people to stay awhile.ā©āOur whole goal here was to literally build a bigger stoop,ā she said. āItās a community gathering space where everybody from all walks of life can come hang out.āā©So far, The Stoop serves Zekeās coffee and pastries from Northeast Baltimore-based Bluebird Bakery. By the time the cafeās grand opening rolls around Sept. 21, Stamerro plans to add sandwiches, quiches and other fare to the menu, as well as non-coffee options like Italian sodas.ā©Despite some closures in the neighborhood (other recent departures include a 7-Eleven, Suspended Brewing Co. and Mobtown Ballroom), she feels bullish about Pigtownās prospects.ā©āThe narrative gets filled in by assumption,ā she said. Indeed Zekeās, she said, āwas a completely viable business. Itās more of a change...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Stoop is hands down one of the best coffee spots in Baltimore! From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed by warm, inviting vibes and an energy that feels like home. The employees are friendly and genuinely seem to love what they do, which makes the whole experience even better. The owners are often around, chatting with customers and bringing a personal touch to the place that makes it feel like a true community hub.
Their coffee is amazing--there's a familiar but exceptional flavor to it, like the best version of a classic brew. It's rich, flavorful, and expertly made, and pairs perfectly with their impressive selection of pastries and treats, which are always fresh and delicious. Another unique perk of The Stoop is their point system, which lets you earn rewards and discounts for future purchases. It's such a nice way to feel appreciated as a regular, and it definitely keeps me coming back.
The ambiance is really something special here, too. The walls are adorned with a stunning hand-painted mural that brings so much character to the space. It's vibrant and artistic, adding to the overall cozy aesthetic. Whether you're there to grab a quick coffee, work for a few hours, or just unwind, The Stoop is the perfect spot. A true Baltimore gem that everyone...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had the salmon & quiche with an iced latte with spiced apple butter syrupāthe quiche was really good, very umami and cheesy. The coffee is good too, a bit bitter, but very tasty-not too sweet.
My friend and I came in at a busy time though, it took a bit (almost 45 minutes of waiting) to get our food considering how small the kitchen and only three people are working. And there was ZERO standing room when it was busy, I had to press up against the merch wall and only sat down when a table opened up. Soā¦bringing a bunch of people probably isnāt the best idea!
I would come here again, but probably not around their busy hoursāthey have good music and the staff are really sweet (but so stressed, I felt so bad)! The coffee flavors seem super interesting and would absolutely come here...
