I always say "I'll try anything twice."
This is an updated review: My 2nd time getting the "Nashville Hot Chicken". Not only is this NOT Nashville Hot Chicken, it's not even spicy. I think it's just brown sugar and paprika. If you know the history of Nashville Hot Chicken, it was invented to be so spicy that it might kill a man. Not kidding. It should be fire engine red from the amount of Cayenne on it. Tobasco is spicier than this and that's sad. Also my meal came out surprisingly fast, which is why it's a red flag that my fries were cold. I won't be coming back.
Original review: My first trip to Wiley Gunther's was because the local social media consensus was that they have the most authentic Nashville Hot Chicken. Being from Nashville, I can tell you this ain't it. Presentation was perfect, color was right, but about 10% of the spice of a food that has HOT right in the name. Today I visited for a second time. I sat outside at their lovely picnic tables, complete with a custom surround and some nice plants. Scanned the QR code for the menu, ordered and paid all on my phone. Got the southwestern chicken sandwich, but as a wrap. Cool they give you the option. It was DELIGHTFUL! The roasted red peppers gave it such a smoky flavor. Chicken was moist and tender. Very good and very filling. Old Bay hand cut fries were also good if you like that sort of thing. Will definitely return to explore their decent sized menu. This is why I'll try anything twice (but not that Nashville...
Read moreNot impressed at all. The customer service was appalling. We were the only ones there. The server was a beefy "bro" dude named Wyatt and couldn't look us in the eye. He mumbled the entire time. We asked what's up stairs and he said we don't serve up stairs. Later we see many people coming down with food from the second floor. The beer selection is cool. The first one I ordered was out and he mumbled me some second option while staring at the wall. This guy never smiles. Service was slow. The spicy chicken ciabatta was sweet and not remotely spicy. It was tasty though. Excessive amounts of bland fries. My girls grapefruit mixed drink was like choking down gone bad canned grapefruit juice with no alcohol and way to much salt. . At $5 bucks it was an additional mistake I won't make again. Won't be going back. Very disappointed. The atmosphere was really cool and I'm wondering if all the reviews are from locals who may or may not have been...
Read moreMaybe I’m an easy touch, and give the 5 star too easily, but Wiley Gunther’s earned theirs.
Came here in the I had the steak sandwich with blue cheese on ciabatta, with a Caesar salad, and 3 RER beers. Very good. I finished every last morsel. The service was very quick, slowing a little closer to 7, 7:30. I finished with a mug of black tea and the “Smith Island Cake” I didn’t know what a Smith Island Cake was, but it’s DELICIOUS. Also: it’s rich enough, and the portion large enough, that it could easily be a dessert for two. Not that I couldn’t finish it too.
A glass of milk and or some coffee would have helped. The food is “Instagram ready” but I was too hungry, and the food too good, to delay eating to...
