Downeast Deli and Boxed Lunch Co. — Restaurant in Bar Harbor

What a disappointing experience. We both ordered Tarragon mayo lobster rolls to take back to our room to enjoy & wow was the food underwelming & the staff unaccommodating almost aggressively so. First we asked if we could have warm butter as a side & was told not possible even though we offered to pay, ok no problem can we please have a couple of butter pads of which they had a huge container of in the front counter & was also refused even though again we offered to pay, said they were for the baked potatoes only. Then we asked if they had salt & pepper packs available & was told yes but somehow they didn't make it in the bag. We weren't thrilled but thought ok these must have wonderful flavor & will hold out judgement...but no, not only were they bland & pretty much flavorless they were also disappointingly small. At first I thought they were a hot dog bun to give you an idea on size. This was by far the most disappointing meal we've had in Bar Harbor & the unfriendly downright sour service we received prompted me to write this review which is something I rarely do. Thank goodness my husband stopped in an convenience store to buy $7 shakers 🙄 or these lobster rolls wouldn't be worth eating. Side note... the cashier was nice enough though a tad indifferent it was the cook who was being intentionally difficult. The cashier seemed timid & unsure of how to handle the situation. If you're looking for a business that values customer service & our $$ then give this place a pass. We're not difficult costumers, we're midwest polite , always have a smile & say please & thank you & are not used to this level of customer service so this experience was really quite...

The baked goods in the window grabbed our attention as we were walking by. We stepped in to grab breakfast sandwiches, but the owner recommended additional packed lunches for our trip through Acadia National Park. BEST DECISION!! Not only were the breakfast croissants delicious, but the lunch sandwiches were AMAZING! They have several different bread options for each of their sandwiches, but we’re suckers for a good sub roll. We got 2 ham and cheese sub rolls and 1 roast beef and cheese sub roll as a packed lunch along with one of their decadent brownies. We enjoyed them so much that we went back the next afternoon to grab packed lunches for our early morning departure to Boston the next day. This time we ordered 2 roast beef and cheese subs and one sliced chicken sub and of course ANOTHER brownie! Not only was this little deli our favorite food spot during our time in Bar Harbor, but it was also the friendliest! The owner remembered us on our 2nd visit and gave us solid recommendations for a local lobster pound. The only thing that could have made this visit better is if they had a walnut brownie option, but I’m not complaining. Walked in and patron in front of us was short changed. The patron didn't realize it at first, after leaving the store they came back and said to the person behind the counter, I think you short changed me. The worker immediately opened the register and gave the patron a ten dollar bill. After watching it i realized the worker must have known they short changed them cause they didn't ask one single question. Then my family and I order. We order three sandwiches, one of which was a chicken salad. We get home, which is about 15 minutes away, and we opened the chicken salad sandwich and there is no chicken salad on the sandwich. Just the lettuce, tomato and onion. So I hustle back to the deli so I can tell them the error and they say sorry. They then try and find the ticket to see what they wrote down and proceed to make another one. They didn't offer any retribution for my trouble. One worker kept looking for the slip in the trash while the other made a new sandwich. I asked if they could do anything for my trouble and they just said sorry. With so many options in Bar Harbor my family and I will never go back...
