FOOD: Listen, I've tried several locations and this was my last stop before I gave up on every TC. I ordered the chicken fajita taco combo. Fajitas were not cold as they usually are. I did only get 2 pieces of meat which was disappointing. The chips and queso that come with the order were actually pretty good. The chips were very crunchy. As a restaurant would serve you. Pleasantly surprised. My husband did the beef fajita taco combo and stated the meat was way better than what we have tasted from other locations.
SERVICE: This department was HORRIBLE. Whoever the guy was who took orders on Sunday was EXTREMELY rude. You could see the look on other people's faces that he interacted with and they looked disturbed. I ordered my food, and after he took my order I stated to him that I wanted this and that onthe side since they were not offered at the condiment section. He then stated very lowly that I should have stated that when I ordered. I walked over to start putting me salsa and pico de gallo in the to go cups and it took me a while. There wasn't much to offer. The amount were very low. So I was waiting. He left to get more and then he came back and stated "great. You're still here. Take your sweet time why don't you". I couldn't keep my words to myself anymore so I told him, that he needed to try and be nicer to people. Speaking to customers that way will upset them. I am 7 months pregnant and yes I will take my "sweet" time. He then stated he was talking to himself.
My husband and I sat down and waited for our number to be called, and as I looked around, I could see how much his interaction had disturbed others that spoke to him. To me, it was very unsettling to have had an interaction the way that I did with someone.
Will I come back? For the food, yes obviously. Will I get down,...
Read moreIt's Taco Cabana..I generally get quesadillas or flautas here when I'm to lazy to make them at home. The staff is usually slightly confused but vigorously trying to turn out something that resembles food. They have a million sauces but the bar where they keep them is on lockdown since Covid which makes staff extra prone to leaving out whatever you ask for. Not to worry though because the fountain drinks are more than big enough to help you wash down whatever you choose to "enjoy". The new guy taking orders seemed to have one foot out the door. It was looking like he didn't need much more of a reason before he was running down the highway, so the vibe was both hilarious and awkward as we waited for our to go orders inside.. We would have done drive through but I didn't feel like getting riled up screaming at a box about my preferences regarding guacamole or chipotle salsa, topics I can be very passionate about on any given day.. Wisely my better half suggested we skip the long long line and the headache that would surely accompany any wine based margarita to go.. I know I can't be the only one that finds margaritas to go a disturbing thought when I look at all the nascar hopefuls white knuckling it down the frontage road. If I am just being a stick in the mud then I'll consider apologizing but the parking lot alone screams fender bender so navigating it buzzed seems quite a bit like a slip and fall con artists wet dream..literally.. So to sum it up if you want quick generic Mexican food with a side of frustration and regret you've come to the right place....
Read moreIt used to be the greatest fast food in Texas but has fallen to lows that often happen to chains growing too fast... what happened to us yesterday was we went into the Taco Cabana on Ben White in Austin and ordered a Fajita Plate. We then got our salsas waiting for the dish to be ready which it was quite quickly. When we sat down My wife tasted all the salsas and found the red tomato based red salsa to be bad like it was really old. She then told one of the employees of the bad salsa and the response was "it was made fresh today" My wife asked the employee if she would taste it (because it surely should not be served to the public) the employee refused and walked away. We then found the tomatoes in the Fajita salad were also rotten (they looked good but the taste was telling). I figure the salsa was made from the same tomatoes. The other salsas were fresh and good. My wife claimed she would never eat there again... which means I guess I wont either. It must be hard to keep up freshness but not impossible... and I sure do miss the rotisserie chicken it was our family favorite. I knew I needed to write about this because eating rotten tomatoes can just ruin a meal and did and when having to decide between Hated it and Dislike, I had to go with Hated with the rotten tomatoes and the staff's response. I see little difference between Taco Bell and Taco Cabana where they used to be leagues... as we left my wife said they will go out of business serving rotten foods and I said I am not sure about that... she then stated well I guess idiots have to...
