Texas Grill Restaurant — Restaurant in Bastrop

I went into Bastrop to take care of some personal business and saw this diner off of the roadway. I personally, love diners but I should have walked right back out upon arrival. The place smelled musty and dank. It was self seating so I found a place to sit far from the restrooms thinking that may have been the issue. The waitress came over and was very friendly. There wasn’t much to choose from on the menu so I chose the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and a salad. Let me tell you that the salad was the most appetizing item that I had. The chicken fried steak was freshly made but had zero flavor/seasoning and the steak itself was paper thin! Yuck! The mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box….disgusting! I didn’t eat anything but my salad. Very disappointed! And it only costed me $21.92 including a sweet tea that I couldn’t drink because it was pure sugar! Sometimes establishments start off great but through the years they become mediocre and cut corners to cut down on cost. I definitely won’t be coming back. Called at 8:55 to place a Togo order of a waffle with a side of sausage, and an order of 2 eggs, over medium, hash browns, toast, and bacon. Was told it would take 10-15 minutes. Made the drive across town arrived at 9:12. Went in and checked on the order was told by the guy up front that they forgot to turn their waffle iron on so it would be another 10 minutes. Cool, we’re gonna wait. It’s now 9:36 and I just got my order. The egg order, cold as an ice cube, I ask the guy up front again, was the eggs just sitting the whole time the waffle was being made, and he said yes but they were under a warmer. Which they weren’t. They were cold and weren’t even cooked correctly. The eggs and bacon and hash browns and toast were cold. The waffle was actually cold too and wasn’t done all the way. Very disappointed in the food, especially for $30. But Atleast the guy was honest about the food just sitting there right. Probably won’t return back...

Ordered steak & eggs lightly scrambled with cheese and crisp hash browns. Eggs were good as was the crisp hash browns but the steak was disappointing to say the least. It wasn't much thicker than a piece of thick cut bacon. Of all the places in America you think you could get a decent cut of steak , you would think Texas would be that place. Then to add to my disappointment I decided to order a pancake, when it arrived I asked for butter. I was handed a small bowl with what I was told was packaged butter. As I spread it across my pancake the texture seemed odd to me so I took my camera and took a picture of the label on this so called butter only to discover that it just a combination of bad oils and had less than 2% butter in it. I asked the waiterss if they had real butter that what she gave me as butter was not actually butter she just looked at me like a dear in the headlights. My pancake was ruined at this point.
