I came here at 6pm after not getting a chance to eat all day (busy work life). I was excited, but as soon as I walked to the buffet, my excitement grew into anxiety. Almost nothing, and I really do mean almost nothing, was fresh. I suppose it was my fault for not asking to view the buffet before paying, but with it being 6pm (the early part of any dinner rush) I'd have expected there to be fresh food. I always get lo mein, but just looking at the lo mein on the buffet made me queezy. Dry is an under statement. All of the chicken (sesame, honey, European, etc) was nearly inedible. I couldn't even stick my fork in the sesame chicken. It took one chew, and then second one to be sure, to realize just how tough, dry, and old it was. I spat it out into my napkin. I patiently waited (almost an hour) for them to put out fresh food. I went all day without eating, surely I could wait a little longer. In the mean time, I thought perhaps I'll grab a slice of pizza. You can't really mess up pizza... wrong. You can mess up pizza, and messed it up, they did. It was as hard as the dragon statue outside in front of the parking lot. That's when I saw them change out the pan for the sesame chicken! "FINALLY," I thought!... 😒 but that's all they did. They just changed out the pan. No fresh sesame chicken. Just a fresh pan to put the old chicken in. I decided at that point, I was tired of giving grace and being patient. So I went to the front and apologized for my inconvenience and asked if it would be at all possible if I could get a refund. The guy at the front counter asked why, and I told him exactly what just happened. His reply was, "but it's a buffet."... I stood there for a second thinking, "I don't know what that's supposed to mean." I said, "right... but all of the food is old. I paid $24 to eat at this buffet, and if the food isn't what its supposed to be, then I'd just rather go somewhere else." His reply was, "well, I'm going to charge you for the drink." I said, "😃 sure. That's fine." I wasn't about to argue over the fact that I only drank a fourth of my Coke. Grateful for the refund for the food, I walked out to my car, placed my hunger aside, and decided to write this review because that $4.25 Coke I took only a few sips from fueled me enough to tell you my experience.
China Bear down the street has far superior food, both in quality and taste, and I've never had a poor experience there. I only chose King Buffet because China Bear does not have a buffet in the evenings.
NOTE: I'm in the food service industry, and I have had to deal with guests like myself before due to the lack of quality in the food for one reason or another. In any of those instances, given the circumstances, if my guest was not happy with their experience, and they were still left hungry, I would personally remake their food and add a 50% discount OR issue a FULL refund. I would never allow a guest who comes into my establishment to leave...
Read moreThey overcharge customers. I ate here three times. The first time was in April, that was a one person lunch. When the waitress gave me my bill, I found the total wasn't right, that was 6.6 cents more than sum. I asked cashier, she told me that the tax rate increased on April 1st and I should have do the math. So I did the math on my phone. It turned out they still overcharged me 1.2 cents. The cashier gave me 1 cent back. The second time, I was with my husband for dinner. They overcharged us 2 cents more again, I told them again. The waiter told me that was the automatic result of their cashier’s calculation system. I told him they should report to their boss to fix this problem. The third time, today, me and my husband’s dinner, it came again. The waitress told me, “You know, we charge other customers 2 cents more than the the price we give you. Their total is $30.80. We only charge you $30.78. We have taken 2 cents off.” I said: “Even though you have taken 2 cents off, the tax is still not correct. I did the math.” Than the cashier sniffed:“Well, you can pay 2 cents less, but we aren’t gonna welcome you next time. We closed our door to you. Never come to eat here again.” I said ok. I don’t mind spending 2 cents more, but I don’t like to be overcharged 2 cents more. If the owner wants to earn more money he or she only needs to raise the price, which is totally reasonable to me. But they cheat customers. And they don’t think they did anything wrong. If you find it and point out, then you are not eligible to be their customers. They only accept person who are willing to be...
Read moreDisclaimer: This is an independent review. I do not write this review base on a request via anyone or getting paid to do this review. Time at the restaurant: 06/06/2024, time: 12:30 pm. Outside: There are plenty of parking. However, this place is running down so bad with faded paint, not a good eye catching view at first look. Inside : All customers must pay upfront prior to entering. Chairs and tables seem worn down. There are three sections, middle, left, and right. Decorating is very basic. Nothing stands out. Prices: $15/ person plus $3 per a soda. Service: waiter and waitress are not too friendly. I think it’s a language barrier. Restaurant atmosphere: stuffy, floor not too clean, waitresses dropped a piece food on the floor when picking up my plate. She left it there I have to got up and picked it up. Food: Sushi bar: gross! The food preparer was not appropriate dress. The fish (Tuna) was dark brown on the outside and a little pink in the middle. It’s only lunch time but these sushi’s looked like they been out for days. Other food over all: I am still sticking with 1 star. For example: the frog leg were soggy, the boiled shrimp were hard to peel, the rice noodles was bland, etc.. the only thing I like was fresh baking bread. Desert and salad bar are basic, not appealing too much. Overall: this is considered a restaurant that provides quantity over quality. You will often see large families groups or groups of people from facilities go here. If you need a quick place to fill yourself up without too much worry about the quality....
