Capital M for mediocre.
I really wanted to like you, Roxy's in Cedar Hills!
I'm from Hawaii, and I've eaten at an east side Roxy's location once or twice in the past few years. But stepping in on this 100F day, I had that unimpressed feeling even before we moved up in line. The girl behind the counter had a strong "I don't give a damn about anything" vibe about her, but she did at least take our order and give our sauces.
One thing that impressed my was the big sign that said to ask for samples! Yes, this isn't an ice cream shop and I'm not going to ask for ten samples, but I'd love to know if your char siu chicken is worth ordering, or if I should get something else.
It was, so we asked for a char sui chicken, a chicken katsu sandwich, and a garlic chicken plate. For the katsu sandwich, she asked, "What would you like on the side? Fries OK?" "Hmm... What do you have other than fries?"
"Chips... rice... veggies." "Oh! Veggies, please! Thank you."
When we opened our order, 2/3 items were roughly correct, but no vegetables anywhere to be found (unless that slice of wilted lettuce on the katsu burger counts as mixed vegetables? But my entry... had some other plain chicken which was definitely not char sui. I immediately closed the flap and took it back up... politely said, "hey, I believe I asked for char siu chicken... could we do something about this?" The girl was so unimpressed she did not say a single word, nor touch my tray. She grabbed a tiny Chinese to-go box and schlepped some alternate chicken in there and handed it to me open. "Hmmm, thank you." I thought, suspicious. When I looked more closely at the table: no red, just black and brown char marks. Hey! This is chicken teriyaki... not char siu chicken!
Am I going to go back up a third time?
Nope, and I'm not likely to ever enter the store again, either!
The chicken katsu and teriyaki chicken were mediocre. The garlic chicken was pretty good (wish I'd ordered that!).
Note: Roxy's is stingy with the napkins, with the cleaning, with the air conditioning (it was probably 85F indoors), etc. And I know they're not advertising any differently, but you know these ingredients are the cheapest factory farmed abused animals available...
If you go -- good luck: I hope your experience is better! We...
Read moreWent in on August 18th, 2022. Great little place! It was spur of the moment after visiting the Nike Company Store, for the first time. My friend and I were HUNGRY, and he suggested this place since it was nearby. He has also been here before. I ordered the teriyaki chicken dish. Upon receiving it, I was surprised there was no sauce, even though my friend and I received our sauces we chose, on the side. Come to find out, that's just how they serve their dishes, and you have to order the sauce separately in the ramekens. They do charge extra for the sauces. Most places I go to serve the sauces already on the food, and don't charge, unless you're asking for more. I have a favorite Hawaiian joint back in Eugene, called Ron's Island Grill, so I had to compare the two! The dish I always get at Ron's is called, the Huli Huli Chicken-lots of rice, awesome mac salad, and amazing amount of chicken. You get more for your money, portion wise. I can tell you Roxy's teriyaki chicken was delicious, and just as good! Definitely had their differences. The sauce was light, and not overbearing, the mac salad was tasty, and there were large pieces of chicken, but not very many pieces.
Ignore the lady who posted how terrible the service was, complaining about the heat, and no sauces served on the food... You should not assume that every restaurant is going to be able to cater to your liking, because you can't always expect a business to afford A/C. For one, kitchens get very hot in the summer, and if you knew any better, there are regulations for that in a kitchen environment.. Two, restaurants can serve their food without the sauce, and charge if they like. Just because you expected differently, does not make them a bad...
Read moreThis is one of the worst fast food places that I've ever been to. We waited for over 30 minutes, but never got our food. Instead, they gave our food to the 20 or so other people who came after us. When we requested a refund, they shorted us by $1.00. When I got home and searched for them to post this review, I found out that KATU published an article stating that they had low scores on health inspections (and some other reviewers reported food poisoning)!
I, my wife, and daughter went there for lunch. We placed our orders, and were told that they were out of Teriyaki Chicken, and that it would take about 5 minutes to cook some more. Because I was on crutches, I went back out to the car while my wife waited. I watched as 20+ people left with their food, but my wife didn't come out for 30 minutes. When she finally came out, she had no food.
She explained that she had checked with them every few minutes and they kept telling her that the food would be ready any minute. After 30 minutes, he finally admitted that they had given all the Teriyaki Chicken they had cooked away to people who came AFTER US.
My wife requested a refund, and even though we paid $17.00 for the meal that they never delivered, they only gave her $16.00 back!
I tried calling the phone # listed with directory assistance to complain, but only got a voicemail saying it was for the catering line. They haven't called me back.
Is the food good? How could I possibly know? I'll never find out. When I searched for them on Google, I found out that they've had some problems with their health...
