Last night my family and I ate at Sushi Chiyo in Beaverton. It was not my first time, but my third time there. The kids and their mother have been there at least four other times without me. It's a place my kids love going to for sushi. I don't like to write bad reviews for any businesses, because I know running a business is not easy and a bad review can cripple a business. But I strongly feel I need to share my experience in the hope that the owner will take some action. If I could describe the food poisoning episode last night, I would say it was the closest to a death experience. The dishes that I ate that the rest of the family did not eat, was Masego Philadelphia roll, salmon collar, seared Unagi, and another roll that I picked up from the conveyor belt that had the green seaweed on the top. After putting the kids to bed around 9:15 pm I felt a little nauseous and went to lay down. After 10 to 15 minutes later I felt even more nauseous and started trembling. My body felt hot and I started having body sweat. I was burning up. I didn't know if I should go to the emergency room or wait it out. I didn't know what to do and I was very concerned. I've never had this feeling before and I felt like I was dying. I ended up passing out and woke up a little after midnight. Whatever it was, it passed and I had to use the toilet badly, I'll spare you the details there lol. Anyhow, I will not be going back for sushi here. I have a feeling that my kids and their mother will continue. I hope the owner will take my experience and make improvements to how food may be handled incorrectly and ensure that food quality is never compromised. I am not here to rate this restaurant but to raise awareness. I hope this is a one-off incident because things happen. I am so glad my food poisoning experience was short-lived and I'm still alive :) I hope for changes so it doesn't happen to anyone else. Stay safe...
Read moreTonight was my first time trying sushi chiyo and will be my last, I can’t speak to the quality of the sushi overall because as I write this I am currently seated waiting for my rolls. I have been here for 45 minutes, for a belt sushi place this is absolutely insane, even if the sushi is good I will not be back as there are so many different sushi restaurants where I can be served far quicker.
Update: received our food an HOUR after we ordered, they were busy, but we watched SIX tables that arrived well after us not only receive their food way before us, but pay and leave before a single dish was brought to our table, many of the items brought out to these tables were also items we ordered. The sushi was good for belt sushi (better than my staple belt place Akira, and far better than sushi mioga), but the wait was ridiculous, the staff kept walking by seemingly ignoring us. I have worked in food service and give places a lot of grace and time, hence why we didn’t get up and go somewhere else, but the wait was enough to deter us from coming back, especially considering our meal was $60 for 2 people. We can get good quality sushi for that at any number of the sushi places in Beaverton. We ordered veggie tempura, a cup of miso, tuna nigiri, tamago, and an assortment of 6 different rolls, nothing crazy or excessive. Upon watching the kitchen it seemed they didn’t have a good order system for the sushi counter. Rather the orders got tossed in a big pile in no order and whatever one they picked up was the one they worked on, ours unluckily seemed to get shuffled...
Read moreLong story short: Unmarked Sushi will allow for raw fish to be put for too long (health concern). Slow service. Rude chef. Quality does not match cost. Go to Sushi Hana for similar quality but cheaper Sushi.
First thing that caught my eye was there was a lot of raw fish unmarked. As someone who used to make sushi for a living, that was quite scary. They have a way to time how long a sushi has been out (the caps that they place). However, when I was there, there was a portion that did not have a cap... Meaning they've been out for possibly too long. Out off curiosity, I decided to pull one off and it definitely had a room temperature feel. Made me weary for sure.
Waited about ten minutes to make an order; however, they seemed busy. I asked politely for one of the sushi chefs if I could order through him or if he could get someone for me but he just did me down by saying no and to wait for someone. After that I just had to get going so I decided to wait at the register to leave and I still had a long wait before they even noticed me. They were frequently in the back or turned away from everyone else.
I felt that the quality of the rolls did not match price point. For similar quality but better value, go to Sushi Hana instead.
All in all, maybe I just came at a bad time? But it definitely...
