Update after 6 years: TL;DR - don't go here.
Tom's has been declining for the past couple years it seems. I've been getting their Benedict consistenly for a while. More often than not, I get inedible English muffins (pic included). Idk what's going on with that but you can't cut through them and they're extremely chewy if you decide to attempt to eat it. I typically order them for delivery. The past year or so, I've noticed the clamshells have been melting under the hashbrowns. I called last summer to provide feedback on this and make them aware. Then I noticed it again recently, called again this summer, and they just said they're looking into new packaging but it takes a long time, yada yada. Umm, burnt/melted plastic should be taken pretty seriously, no? I was compensated on GrubHub/DoorDash and they seemed to take it seriously at the time -- guess not. Anyway, what's really rough was this last visit. I've boycotted them from delivery since they can't get the packaging together so I stopped in since I was in the area. I got the Benedict. What happened? Pieces of low quality, fatty ham placed over an inedible English muffin. Beyond crispy hashbrowns which was out of the norm but okay. So, someone comes to clear my plate. I ask to take a pic before they do and ask to speak to the manager or someone who can help discount the meal due to literally inedible food on the plate. "Roxie" comes over and I explain the situation. I didn't want to send this back to have them "correct" it, mind you. I've seen the movie "Waiting." Nope. So, I ate what I could of it and asked for a discount. Roxie took this all personally and proceeded to get sassy with me. "Well, you're the only person with this problem today" as she starts to walk off. I'm like what? As she's walking away she looks back and gives me a death glare for no reason. So I stand up and ask for her manager in which she replies she is the manager. She definitely was not acting like one. So I ask for her managers info, a business card, phone number, etc. because the situation is complete bs at this point. Her colleague is standing there watching in horror as she's throwing a fit at the cash register over some minor criticism. Her colleague was like, "I'm so sorry," as "Roxie" the "Manager" stormed off. I get it, man. We all have bad days but this was a different level especially for someone who calls themselves a manager. There was no conflict resolution, only defensiveness on Tom's part. They gave me a discount and I tipped but I told them I'm never going back. I stand by that. I don't recommend this place anymore. I've given them way too many "2nd" chances and it's insanity to keep going there at this point. Byyyeeee ✌️ P.S. I highly recommend Cafe Murrayhill's Benedict just a ways down Murray if anyone is looking for good, edible food in proper packaging that doesn't melt.
From 6 years ago, original post. Kinda sad: Oh, man. Been driving by this place for years and finally decided to try it out. Exceptional service and even better food. The pancakes are out of this world....
Read moreWas on my way to the airport but you guys don’t care about that, you want to know about this restaurant which has absolutely nothing to do with the airport. Ok here goes, I really wasn’t hungry to begin with but couldn’t resist a nice steaming cup of hot chocolate and a country sausage omelette so that is exactly what I ordered. Servers were friendly enough but seemed a bit confused as to whose table each has. I was seated by one, and asked if I would like something to drink at which I requested my nice steamy cup of hot chocolate then another server came by to ask me what I wanted to drink so I told her I had already ordered my cocoa. Hot chocolate arrived but was lukewarm with a small dollop of whipped cream . Food arrived in good time but also was not hot enough. Omelet was thick but like every other breakfast restaurant was not cooked the way I prefer. Omelets should be light and fluffy with the ingredients mixed evenly on the inside. This was just neatly folded like they had just picked it up from the dry cleaners up the street. There was a bit of cheese inside the omelette but not enough to make any noticeable difference in taste. The bits of sausage and country gravy were just poured on top. Not sure why but there was a very different taste than what I’m used to in either the gravy or sausage and it didn’t really appeal to me. I turned my attention to the pancakes which came with a tiny bit of butter to put on them and a small container of syrup. I like a lot of butter and syrup on my pancakes and although this amount was sufficient I would have preferred more. Pancakes were nothing spectacular, kind of crispy and rough on the edges but still tasty. Plus side was that they don’t skimp on the portions. I ate all I could of the pancakes and omelette before sacrificing the rest to the great garbage bin in the sky. I wasn’t asked if I wanted more hot chocolate in my small cup but my ice water was refilled with not so icy water which made the remaining ice cubes melt right away .All in all it was necessarily a bad breakfast but for the price ($20 for all) I found it a bit high. Not sure if I will return as I don’t live in the area anymore but I would be willing to give it another...
Read moreI brought my family to have breakfast at this place, we patiently waited about 15 to 20 minutes to be seated due to the restaurant was full, the food was fine i have no complain about food. But my surprise was when i received the bill, they were charging me 20% as party fee, what party? I only brought my kids to have their breakfast. Never reserve for a party. I talk to the waitress why that charge, they had no much to say all they said is that after six people they have to charge party fee because is too much to set up the table and clean, so my question is, what are the waitress work then, isnt that is why they have people to do their job, set up for clients. So they brought the manager and the manager said they do that because a lot of people dont leave tips and that is the way make them get their tips. My question is that fair? To me is not. I work my ass hard to make some money and be able to bring my family once and a while to ejoy something different. I do jobs over 3 or 4 thousands and i dont make my clients to pay certan percentage as tips to pay my employee's. Restaurant can force you to pay 20% for tips but you cant because you do different service? Arent they all service? Construction? Landscaping, painting, plumber? Want is the difference. My thinking is that if they give me good service and i am satisfied with everything and i can afford i may leave some tips as appreciation for serving me food. Their boss should pay them well and dont force people to pay more than what consume. After the discussion she removed the charge of 47 dollars with unhappy attitude. I left 10 for tips but she rejected and gave it back. I might be wrong but to me it is not fair the way they wants to...
