This was our fifth visit here. Normally the food has always been delicious and service has been five star. We've been pretty satisfied and have recommended it to people in the past. We noticed on our prior visit that the service was not as great as it had been, but we figured it was because they were super busy and it was on a weekend. However, the service tonight on a Tuesday night was pretty bad. Yes it was also crowded, and it was less than an hour (50 minutes) until closing, but we made sure to hurry and be there so we could fulfill our sushi cravings. (I called ahead of time to verify closing and when we arrived, the hostess sat us down, so we did not think timing was an issue.)
Here is what happened:
We ordered our first round (appetizers and six rolls) and made sure to ask the waitress when the kitchen was closing so that we could put in another order before it did. She told us we had two more minutes, so my husband and I hurried and ordered two more rolls each for our second order. She verbally repeated the names back to us as she was putting them in the tablet. Our first order came with our appetizers and soups, but we did not receive our sushi rolls from that order for at least another 30 minutes. When we saw her again and had to stop her (she never once came to check if we needed anything or if the first order was correct, etc), we verified the rolls we were waiting on, and she named off my husband's rolls and one of mine. I asked about my other one, and she said that it wasn't listed on the order. She apologized, and I said, "I might have just been thinking of ordering it (even though I knew I actually did order it) instead of actually saying it out loud." Because it was after the kitchen closing time, I could not re-add it. She reassured us that they were coming, and we kept on waiting. We finished our first order then another waiter brought us our check. Our waitress came to collect it, and we asked what happened to our rolls. She said she would check with the kitchen and came back to say that the orders were put in after the last call for the kitchen and that we weren't getting them. By this time it was 10pm. She apologized again, took the check, and thanked us for coming. She avoided eye contact. She knew it was her fault that she did not receive our second order. Still not once we our drinks ever refilled, and we were never checked on to see if we needed anything while we were there. Plus our order was messed up. We left there very dissatisfied and irritated and will probably not...
Read moreTerrible experience started from the first step we were in this restaurant. We stood in the doorway for at least 10 minutes, no receptionist came to take care of us. We literally drag a waitress and told her we were expecting a table for 2. She asked us to wait, saying that the table need to be cleaned. But actually we saw a lot of table were available at that time. Another 10 minutes later, we finally sat on the table. Then, after 15 minutes, a waitress came trying to take our order, BUT, she forgot her pad. Then she disappeared for like 10 minutes until another waitress came taking care of us. This waitress was pretty inpatient, she looked around while we were placing orders, just like there were thousands of stuffs need her attention which were far more important than our order. The first plate was served after more than 10 minutes, but it was not ours. We finished our first round for nearly 1 hour, and some dishes were never served until we went. The second round was more ridiculous, we waited on table with two empty dishes for about 30 minutes, and there were only three small grilled lamb ribs served, the sushi, rolls and sashimi never appeared. We have to drag another very busy waitress (by the way, it seems that they were so busy that they always stared at things on their hand - pad, receipts, etc. but never took a look at the customers) and ask, finally, our sashimi were served. Additionally, the core of a restaurant is always the quality of the food. Apparently, I would give a big F to the food. Good sashimi should be served raw and as what it was, without too much additives and seasoning, so that you can enjoy the original and freshness of the material. However, in sushi soho, most of there sashimi were served with a piece of jalapeño and some spicy source. This was absolutely unacceptable, the terrible seasoning totally destroyed the sashimi. I could only believe that the food material were not at all fresh, even with some unpleasant odor already, so they had to use some strong seasons like spicy and jalapeño to cover it. I usually give 20-25% tips, this was my first time give zero tips. I understand and appreciate the staffs' hardworking, but overall, the experiences in this restaurant - no matter the service or the food quality - were totally disappointed. We will never...
Read moreIt was my first time visiting Sushi Soho, and it may very well just be my last... maybe. Don't get me wrong! Sushi Soho is not a bad place to eat, especially if you're in the Fort Worth area, but I wouldn't drive an hour or so just to eat here.
Environment / Location / Parking: The location was very easy to find — it's right off of the highway. There were several parking spots the day we visited, but it wasn't busy that day thus I wouldn't say there are ample parking spaces around the building. The environment was fine — I didn't notice anyone loitering around. The exterior was fairly clean, but the interior was not — the floor was sticky and the restroom was meh.
Price: The lunch prices are great, as long as you eat your worth of food. The dinner prices does not seem to be worth it primarily because there is only so much you can eat or try in one sitting. It isn't a buffet where you are able to pick and choose how much of this and that you would like to eat — you sit at the table, scan the QR code, and place your order with your server; what you receive is an entire roll that you must finish or you'll be charged more for it. We visited during lunch time and were unable to order everything that was on the menu thus dinner (a higher price for additional items on the menu) isn't really worth it.
Customer Service: The service was pretty good. We didn't feel rushed, and our water was refilled and our plates were taken at an appropriate time.
Food: The food was pretty good — there were plenty of items on the (lunch) menu to choose from, and we didn't get to try them all. We're a bit traumatized because some rolls can be pretty big, so we forced ourselves to finish them as to not get charged extra. The sashimi/nigiri isn't as fresh as we would like them to be, but they're decent. The pork buns were so delicious — I ordered 3 of them! A suggestion, from me to you, would be to avoid "futomaki" rolls because they are namely BIG rolls and to avoid any cream cheese filled sushi — this will save your belly and you'll be able to try more food!
Would I come back? Possibly. I intend on visiting again with a friend who has never been here, but I wouldn't come back on my own. For what it's worth, it's better to have a group to share with than to eat a small amount of...
