I recently hosted a baby shower at FogRose. To make a long story short, I would not choose this venue again.
First red flag, it was nearly impossible to reach anyone to make pre-event arrangements. When I did finally reach someone they confirmed that we could arrive ahead of our reservation to set up decorations, offered additional fixtures for gifts/etc., and most importantly confirmed that the menu was currently 100% nut free. Our guest of honor has a severe allergy, which the FogRose representative assured me would be handled safely & duly noted on our reservation to ensure no cross contamination occurred.
Upon arrival (at the agreed upon time) on the day of the party, we found the doors locked. The staff eventually agreed to let us in, but had not been informed of the early arrival, gift table request, etc.
Even worse, as the meal was served we discovered that: 1) more than one item DID include nuts, 2) all items were served together on shared platers (a huge cross contamination risk) and 3) our server had not been informed of our guest’s allergy. While the staff attempted to rectify the error, the solutions/communication didn’t do much to instill confidence in their food handling training. Given the risks, our pregnant friend understandably opted to skip the meal. If you’ve ever been pregnant and seated in front of multiple platters of food for 2+ hours, you know the immense risk that would lead one to opt out of participating (note: we were still charged for her meal). We are so disappointed that this was her experience at her own baby shower.
I am generally quick to forgive a single bad experience at a restaurant. Communication errors happen. However FogRose has ignored every attempt I have made to engage in a dialog about our experience. Through multiple outreach attempts I have received just one reply, promising a response which never came.
My advice - if you’re looking for a space for a special event, book elsewhere. It’s worth it to find a space that will treat your event with appropriate...
Read moreI hosted a high tea bridal shower here, for a group of 15. It was difficult trying to get details from the owner, as she wasn't the most responsive - I had to chase her down multiple times to get information, then it took several more attempts to get a hold of her to secure our reservation and pay for the deposit. Even though I wanted to look for another space to host the shower because of this frustrating experience, I stuck through with it because the place and high tea looked absolutely gorgeous.
I'm giving this place two stars for the beautiful ambiance, delicious high tea, and mostly excellent service we received. But the reason why I'm giving a lower review is because in addition to the initial frustration of securing our reservation, we ended up being charged quite a bit more than what I was initially quoted. I was told it was $45 per person. When we got there and our server started to take our orders, I overheard her asking the first guest if she wanted champagne with her high tea. Little did I know, that resulted in changing every single one of our high tea orders to their sparkling high tea version, which ended up becoming $60 per person! I was incredibly frustrated that happened without any heads-up - that's not okay to up-charge a large party like that without letting the host know, especially seeing as more than half the party ended up not even drinking their champagne because we weren't there for a boozy high tea.
I still recommend checking this place out because the food was delicious and it's a beautiful spot. I just don't recommend hosting a larger event here because it's like pulling teeth and herding feral cats to secure the reservation and then you may end up paying way more than you anticipated (the additional $15 per person adds up quickly for a larger party because you're also charged a...
Read moreCame for a late Mother’s day celebration, and it was comically mediocre? For starters, they’ve moved locations and there was practically no signage for which store was this tea place. Looks like they’ve just decided to start doing tea inside of a bar/lounge in the daytime, so that atmosphere was not anything like “afternoon tea”. Second, there were only two people working: a waitress and a host. This made it very difficult for us to get service when we needed it— we had to flag them down multiple times to get someone to help or serve us. When the waitress first spoke to us she asked us what tea we wanted, but she never brought it out. It wasn’t until about 30 minutes later when we asked about it and she had to take our tea order a second time. I’m guessing that she just forgot to bring it to us? Normally I would say that’s not a big deal… but it’s a tea room, so it’s kind of important. Lastly, the food was a disappointment. For starters, I didn’t love that it’s a set menu. Afternoon tea generally has set menu items (i.e. sweet platter, savory platter, etc). Fog Rose just had one platter that you could get and that was it. This would’ve been fine, but the food was not great, and shockingly didn’t come with a lot of items. I think that overall I expect a lot more from a place this expensive. I know that they just moved locations, but I think it would've been more appropriate to close and make sure you are organized and up to standard before having customers come back in. Also, hire more people! Why are there only two people on the floor, and why are they not super attentive?
TLDR; Came out to around $500 for 4 people, service was lacking, food was mediocre at best, and it felt like the tea room was...
