The Captain's Cap — Restaurant in Belmont

It is 8:09 pm on Friday, April 12, 2019. I took my family to dinner at the Captain's Cap of Belmont for an evening out, which is a treat for them. I have had great experiences in the past with this location, however, this evening was a nightmare. We arrived at 6:30, were seated right away, and placed our drink order and dinner order in short order. We made our trip to the salad bar, and enjoyed that during our wait. At 6:55 pm, I began to wonder what was taking so long, and my children were becoming restless. I also noticed that other diners who had been seated and placed orders after we did were being served. At 7:05, we asked our waitress to please check on our dinner. She said she would be right back. Not only did she not come right back, she also served three other trays to tables before coming back to our table to explain that our food was coming up next and there had been a backup in the kitchen. This was at 7:13. At 7:20, still without food, we got up to leave. I asked to speak to the manager. He came from the kitchen, and began to tell me that he had prepared appetizers for us and that our orders were still being prepared. I asked him why he had not come to us before that time and talked to us. His reply was that he had only found out about the problem just then. Really? How then could he have prepared appetizers without coming to see what we would like first? I REALLY do not like being lied to by someone who is preparing food for me and my family, and will be taking my money.

I told him that we were leaving. His reply was that he was going to "comp" our food but since we were walking out on him we could just forget it.

I still had three hungry and disappointed children to feed, and one disappointed wife.

I stopped in for dinner last night by my self. The hostess was very nice and showed me to my table. The waitress came over in a reasonable time and took my drink order. after a few minutes i was ready to order ..... so far so good. i ordered the Platter with three options. i selected the shrimps, clams and was recommended the flownder. Baked potato and salad and hushpuppies included.

The salad came out fairly quickly and was good. I enjoyed my salad and shortly after received my main. It would have been nice if the server removed the empty salad plate..... but nope! That plate stayed on the table and was never cleared. The fried platter was disappointing.

The shrimp was fine but the clams were a bit sandy.... this ruined it for me, and i love fried clams. The most disappointing item was the fried fish.... it was soo dry.... i was looking forward to a nice piece of fried fish. Also the seafood was very under seasoned.

Before i finished my main course the server dropped off the check...never asked if i wanted anything else or maybee desert. As i sat at the table staring at my empty salad plate and now empty dinner plate, no attempt was made to remove them.

I was instructed to pay at the front, so i headed to the cashier to check out. The cashier was nice i left a 20% tip and left.

In closing the server was nice but left a lot to be desired when it comes to table service. The fried fish platter was disappointing.

I don't mean to put the place down but for me, my experience was not great. on a positive note, my salad , hushpuppies and baked potato were...

I HADN'T ATE IN THIS PLACE IN SOME YEARS AND THE REASON FOR THAT WAS BC THE FOOD WAS AWFUL.... WELL IT HASN'T CHANGED AND FOR THE HIGH EXPENSIVE PRICE U DIDN'T GET ANYTHING!!!!! WASTE OF MONEY, WASTE OF TIME AND I SURELY WILL NEVER BE BACK THERE!!!!!! THE WAITRESS WAS PRETTY GOOD UNTIL MY UNCLE GOT SOME "FOOD" THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CATFISH AND IF THAT WAS CATFISH THAT WAS THE MOST CRAZIEST LOOKING CATFISH I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!!! U DO NOT GET ENOUGH FOOD WHATSOEVER!!!!! HE TOLD THE WAITRESS ABOUT IT AND SHE TOOK HIS PLATE BACK AND THE COOK TOLD HER IT WAS CATFISH AND MY UNCLE TOLD HER NO IT WASN'T AND SHE SAID WELL IF U DON'T LIKE IT U CAN TAKE IT UP WITH MANAGEMENT OR I CAN GET THEM TO MAKE U SOMETHING ELSE.... WELL BY THE TIME THAT WAS SAID AND DONE MY UNCLE DIDN'T WANNA EVEN EAT AND I CAN'T BLAME HIM.... HORRIBLE HORRIBLE FOOD AND WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME I WOULDN'T EVER REFER ANYONE TO GO HERE.... I'LL PUT OUT THIS WAY I GOT A 3 COMBO PLATE AND IT WAS BROUGHT OUT AND IT LOOKED LIKE I ORDERED A KIDS PLATE AND I TOLD THE WAITRESS LIKE WHERE'S THE REST OF THE FOOD AND SHE SAID THAT'S IT... I'M LIKE UR KIDDING RIGHT!??!?! 5 SHRIMP AND 1 PIECE OF CATFISH AND 1 PIECE OF FLOUNDER!?!?? I COULD HAVE WENT TO CAPTAIN D'S AND HAD BETTER AND GOT MORE THAT'S FOR SURE!!!!! WORD OF ADVICE DON'T WASTE UR MONEY NOR TIME GOING HERE U'VE...
