This will be the most honest review this place has ever seen. To begin with, a little explanation: my husband and I often eat out and are always open to trying someplace new. I found a coupon on Verizon (should have been my first warning) to buy 1 entree, get the 2nd free up to $8 value. So I purchased it after reading all of the "excellent" reviews. Which I now suspect were written by staff or family.
My husband and I decided to drive the 40 minutes to this restaurant, and we were SERIOUSLY disappointed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME if you haven't been here before. DO NOT BUY THAT COUPON!
We drove up and saw cars in the lot at 12:58, I thought that could be a good sign since it was the end of lunch rush and there were cars there. We walked in and was greeted and seated immediately by the hostess. After about 5-10 mins, the hostess came back and asked us if we would like drinks. I stated I would like a water & my husband would like water w/ lemon and a cup of coffee.
Another 15 mins before our "waitress" FINALLY brought our water and coffee. At this point, my husband and i were considering going to Noodles & Company next door. And also wondered if that is where all of the cars were for. After waiting 25 mins for WATER, we decided we were just going to have the buffet, since we wouldn't need to wait forever again.
Since this was our first time, we thought we would take a sampling of everything, and this is what we thought. The scrambled eggs, and hash browns were dry and cold. Oddly enough, the serving utensils could scald your skin! The buscuits were ROCK HARD, i had a hard time cutting through them with a knife. But inside were soft and tasty. The gravy was excellent, we both enjoyed that and the only reason for 1 star. The bacon tasted like dry bacon, but wasn't burnt so it looked like it was cooked well....an hour before. My husband liked the sausages.
The lunch side had boxed mashed potatoes, the brown gravy was ok. The salad was appetizing and fresh. The broasted chicken was tasty and my husband liked the fried chicken. I was looking for soup, but they didnt offer it at the buffet table. they said your server would bring it, but they must not have ever had our "waitress". Because she never brought nor offered ANYTHING, not refills, and not even the check.
The chocolate pudding tasted like boxed jello instant pudding. The rice pudding was tasty. The Fruit medley tasted like cantaloupe....everything tasted of cantaloupe.
When we were finally done we had a couple conclusions. 1st, my mother was a waitress for over 40 years, and if she was as bad as the waitress we had I would not have survived to write this review. Thank god my mother actually realized she was raising us from her tip money. I did not leave a tip, and that is probably the 2nd time in my life that has happened. 2nd, we paid WAY too much for boxed food. Our final conclusion is that most of this food looked like it had been sitting there for hours...and now we know why!
It might have been different if we had just ordered our food like we had intended when we walked in. Maybe if we had a waitress that actually gave a damn. But I can say the people behind us did order their food, and it was brought to them hot & fresh, but incomplete. When the waitress offered them their check, they said they were still waiting for part of their order. So I am not totally sold on this idea.
I do not recommend this place, and if you are looking at reviews to consider buying that coupon...don't do it! And if you really want to try and see if this place is really as bad as I say, contact me. I will give you the...
Read moreAm a new resident of Beloit. Had visitors over the weekend and wanted to try a restaurant, chose the Road Dawg because it billed itself as a family-style restaurant and we had 2 small kids. Long story short we walked out after almost an hour of waiting for our food. When it came, the waitress only brought out the adults' dishes; which gave us the choice of waiting for the kids dishes to arrive or sharing our food with them. There was no stopping by the table during this hour-long wait with any explanations, until we finally flagged her down to ask what was happening with the food. We would have expected a partial comp or maybe something for the kids to do to occupy their time. Even when the adults' food finally came, there was none of this offered.
The booth behind us, we couldn't help overhearing - had their order screwed up. Not good.
The food itself was subpar. The biscuits and gravy order had clearly died in the window, and had too little gravy or too much biscuit. The eggs that were ordered with it were forgotten. The 2 orders of broasted chicken were a suspicious light gold, and we wondered if it had been cooked long enough, since any broasted chicken I had had in the past was much darker.
Worst of all when we informed the waitress - who after 10 or 15 minutes finally brought out the kids' orders - that we were leaving; she looked surprised, asking only 'Why?'. That was it - no getting the manager, no explanations. No apologies.
We left and drove over to Popeyes next door. Would not recommend the Road Dawg, it was a very upsetting experience...

There were 2 major problems with our visit. The first involved an EXCEPTIONALLY long wait to get our order. We almost left. I will compliment our waitress as she did offer all of us a free dessert. The wraps were quite good as all 3 of us did like them. The other problem involved the check as I told our waitress at the end that I did have a coupon. She applied it BUT stapled the wrong one to the right one. Thus, when it was rung up, the clerk added both of them together, resulting in a HUGE overcharge. Another person, a manager I believe, had to come over and issue a credit. My mother-in-law, who had never been to this restaurant before, told us in no uncertain terms that she has no desire to come back. Your food was good but to have a shortage of help on Mother's Day was NOT acceptable.
This is a NEW review based on our visit on August 19, 2022. We had 2 MAJOR issues involving our carry out order of the 2 piece fish dinner. First of all, I will say that the food was quite tasty. Our complaint was NOT based on the food. It involved being charged a $1 each for the carry out paper box AND not giving a Senior Discount. EXTREMELY CHEAP!!! I was told if we dined in, we would have received the Senior Discount of 10%. We ended up paying an extra $4.50 because we had a carry out order. Not blaming the staff as these directives had to come from the GM or owner. Needless to say, we will have to think long and hard if we want to patronize this restaurant ever again. And certainly NEVER AGAIN to do...
