I would have given the Honor Bar in Beverly Hills five stars for the great service we had from our server Chris, had it not been for the very rude manager, Ashley Haymaker.
I met my friend there who I had not seen for months and we were having a lovely time catching up having a very serious conversation when Ashley walked up to us and said we had a few minutes to finish up and relinquish the table.
We were so stunned that when she walked away, we didn't have time to respond. We then called her over because we were very confused and if there was a time limit on these tables that we did not know about we wanted to apologize and so when she came to the table and I asked her her name so that I could call her by name hoping to have a reasonable conversation with her, she seemed to get very insulted or a threatened because she grabbed the check from the table pointed to the bottom of it and said my name is written plain and clear on the bottom of the check and stormed away.
Once again, my girlfriend and I, who had worked in the restaurant business for over 25 years, I, who have managed two restaurants in Malibu, we’re incredibly stunned at the rudeness of this manager Ashley Haymaker
We then tried again to ask her why she was asking us to leave when we had full drinks and food that had just been delivered to our table, and our bill was almost $400.
She very rudely told us that she had a very long wait and that we had been there over 4 hours and she needed the table. We of course corrected her and told her we had only been there 2 hours and 45 minutes and explained to her that we had just gotten another round food and drinks and would it be possible to move us? She then very rudely said no and that we had a few minutes.
At this point, all we wanted to do was get out of there. We finally got boxes to pack up our food, and we paid our tab.
As we got to the door, we tried one more time to explain to her that she could have handled this so much better.
She then got so angry and defensive and just not willing to hear us, we decided to take the high road and leave.
Had she just been nice and explained to us that she could move us to the bar or whatever it was, it would have made all the difference in the world. But instead she told us that there was no other tables and that we had to leave as we look around the restaurant and there are empty tables not only at the bar but at the back of the restaurant.
It is incredibly sad to say that I will no longer feel comfortable going to The Honor Bar in Beverly Hills due to this manager, Ashley Haymaker.
As I was writing this, I noticed other reviews that mentioned this manager, Ashley! Her name is mentioned several times in the negative reviews. If I were the owner, I'm nothing sure I would want someone like that working for me.
Thanks, Ashley Haymaker, for really putting a damper on a lovely evening! You've just lost...
Read moreSummary: Great quality. Excellent execution. Very attentive service from friendly staff. Great live jazz. Prices are high (especially for sushi). This is a $$$ bar unless you don't eat much food. Bar gets crowded starting at around 6:30 and there are only 6 small tables and about one dozen bar stools for the bar. Parking is a pain if you don't opt for the parking garages. If you arrive before 6pm, you can park for 2 hours free at the garage.
I went here with a couple of friends on a Wednesday evening. We had stopped in the previous week at around 7 pm and the place was already too full, so this time we arrived at 6 pm (parking at the garage and getting our two hours free) and all tables were already occupied. We waited at the bar and had a drink until one of the tables cleared out and then quickly swept in and took it. Soon after, the bar spots were all filled up and the place was buzzing with people.
We were sitting in the table closest to the jazz trio, so we really got to enjoy the music and the skill of the musicians. They were solid, and played a great variety of songs. While watching, we enjoyed an $11 glass of ZD chardonnay and a $14 "old fashioned', which were both significantly overpriced, especially the cocktail in it's tiny glass. Soon we got hungry and ordered some food.
Spicy tuna roll - A great quality roll, but not spicy. It was made with a stalk of jicama inside, which added an unusual crunchy texture to an otherwise standard sushi roll. At $14 though, it was way over priced for the size of the roll.
French fries - At $3, this is the best deal in the bar. Granted, you don't get a huge basket or anything, but they are delicious, hot, and come with a side of spicy mayo and ketchup. We ended up getting three orders of these because they were so good and affordable. Highly recommended.
Honor Bar Burger - This is an amazing burger. It had all the right textures, everything excellently prepared, the patty was cooked just as requested, and the flavor range covered both sweet and savory (but with balance). This was a great $11 burger.
Manhattan - At $14, this was much stronger beverage, but still a bit on the high side of cost.
The total bill came to $130 before tip, which is a bit high for the amount of food and drink that was received for the three of us, but the food and service were certainly to be appreciated, as was the jazzy atmosphere. I'd definitely consider coming again if I was there early enough and willing to...
Read moreThe Honor Bar is very famous around Los Angeles, especially on social media. It’s in a beautiful part of town, Beverly Hills, and it’s designed really well on the inside. It’s dark, but lit enough so you can read the menu but not see every single detail around you. I’m a huge fan of mood lighting, so was a big fan immediately when I walked in. Similar to a darker East Coast steakhouse. Directly next-door to South Beverly Grill, they both share a parking lot and offer valet for $20, but we were able to find street parking a block away, even though it was metered. As the name implies it is a bar, however, they also have table seating, and not only do they have great drinks, but they are known for their great food, especially their crispy chicken sandwich. We made last-minute reservations the morning of the day we wanted to stop in and we were able to be seated right when we arrived for a 7 PM Wednesday night dinner. The hostess was very polite and we were seated at one of the high top tables immediately after entering. It was pretty crowded on the inside, but not too loud. They also have another location in Montecito, which I plan to try next time I am up there.
Honor bar is especially known for their Dings Crispy Chicken Sandwich so we had to order one. It’s a very large portion, so would be easy for two people to split it. I thought it was truly fantastic and worth its reputation. I think it would be even better if there was an avocado smash included but still I enjoyed it very much. They’re also well known for their burger which I plan to try next time. We ordered the Kale Salad to start and it was good although nothing out of the ordinary so I would recommend skipping that. They also have a very large sushi menu, which is a great option. We split the Rainbow Roll and it was great. The seafood was very fresh and everything was prepared perfectly.
Overall pricing is pretty fair, especially given where it’s located. The food and drink quality is great and the service is super fast. I can definitely see why it has the reputation it does and I plan to be back...
