I had to work over Thanksgiving and decided to treat myself by ordering their $45 Thanksgiving dinner. Big mistake. My friend picked it up for me and brought it to my job. When I opened the box, I was horrified. The turkey leg didn’t even look like turkey—it looked more like a pig or a cat. Concerned, I called to confirm it was actually turkey. They assured me it was, so I reluctantly tried to eat it. I couldn’t. It was pink on the inside, unappetizing, and downright disgusting. The only edible part of the meal was the stuffing. The apple pie? A disaster. No ice cream, no whipped cream, just a cardboard-like slab of crust with slimy apples falling apart inside. This “renowned deli” served me one of the worst meals I’ve ever had, and it ruined my Thanksgiving. I saved the turkey leg to show I didn’t eat it and called a few days later, hoping to get some resolution. The manager, Leslie, was dismissive and rude, insisting no one else had complained and basically implying the issue was me. Despite my politeness, she made me feel like a nuisance. She said she’d speak to the chef and call me back. Hours passed—no call. When I called again, the chef got on the phone and was even ruder. Instead of showing empathy, he launched into a lengthy explanation about how the turkey leg was smoked and sourced (not sure why that affects me) and that they’d sold 12 others with no complaints. He even bragged that it’s the same product used at Disneyland, which didn’t help his cause at all. I don’t go to an upscale deli expecting amusement park food. He refused to offer a refund, saying, “It’s not my problem you didn’t like it.” He treated me like I was unreasonable for expecting an edible meal and any semblance of customer service. I would never normally write a review, but I’m honestly just so shocked and disappointed by this experience. The food was inedible, the service was dismissive and rude, and I was left feeling humiliated and unheard. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and your holiday by going elsewhere.

Nate n Als is hands down, my favorite eatery for breakfast in Los Angeles. It's great for lunch too, but there's something about that early morning buzz when the regular locals drop by and eat and shmooze and enjoy delicious food. Depending on the time you go, you can either wait a while, or get a table right away. Weekends are definitely busier, but the wait is never too long that you begin to reconsider eating elsewhere. More often than not, I choose the cheese blintzes and a hash brown on the side. Their hash browns are simply THE BEST I've eaten anywhere ever. Cooked to perfection and always beautifully golden brown and crisp. You can pick anything off their extensive menu: you don't need to worry about ordering chicken soup for breakfast. If you want it, they'll bring it out. Everything I've ever eaten here is delicious, there's hardly one thing I can recommend over another. I do think there's times where the service can be a bit slow; even getting the bill can take some time. I also think the food is about a dollar or two more expensive than I'd like to pay considering what you get, but overall, it's usually worth it when you're hungry and then get your food and it's everything you imagined a good old fashioned kosher style deli would make. The atmosphere is good in here, and there's even a few celebrity sightings if you're lucky enough (over the years, I've seen quite a few in here). The interior is a bit dated, but it adds to the old school charm. I highly recommend Nate n Als!!! (PS. A few doors down there's a parking garage with two hours free parking. Especially in the morning it's easy to find a parking space without hassle.)

Our final food choice in LA was Nate' n Als. This has a prime location on Beverly Hills right by Rodeo Drive. The decor was 1970's with a very brown vibe going on. This is a Jewish deli with a casual atmosphere second only in my experience to Katz deli in New York. The guy at the front desk taking take out orders was excellent and attentive. He kept us informed of the progress of our order and chased before we needed too. There were lots of choices on the menu but we focused on the Signature Sandwiches. These were served on double-baked bread, with pickle spears. Along with this you also get a side of either potato salad, macaroni salad or coleslaw. I went for "The Westwood". This was roasted turkey, coleslaw and Russian dressing. I made the mistake of choosing more coleslaw on the side. Forgetting that american coleslaw is not the creamy mayonnaise luxury which we are accustomed to in the UK. My husband had the "The Canon". The filling in this was corned beef, pastrami, swiss cheese, coleslaw and russian dressing. He opted to pay extra for the steak fries, which was a wiser choice than the coleslaw. We absolutely did not need two sandwiches, When we ate them later that evening we managed to finish one half each. They were massive! The Canon was more flavoursome than The Westwood. The coleslaw wasn't for us.

A Wonderful Classic LA Dining Experience! Growing up in West Los Angeles, I have been going to Nate ‘n Als restaurant in Beverly Hills since the late 1950’s, often taking the bus with a friend for lunch there, even before I could drive to reach this favorite dining destination. It is an important part of the memorable and tasty tapestry of both my youth and adult experiences. I have always enjoyed the restaurant’s casual comfortable stuffed booth ambiance, delicious food and consistently great experience. Seeing Milton Berle at his regular table and Chevy Chase making funny faces over the head of the host and so many other celebrities dining there over the years added to the fun of people-watching at the restaurant. Over the years, I often came to the restaurant to have both lunch and dinner with both friends and family. Although we haven’t lived in Los Angeles for several decades, we have enjoyed dining at Nate ‘n Als when we visited our family or friends over the years. Where we currently live in Monterey, there is simply nothing as wonderful as this landmark restaurant. We have regretfully seen so many historic excellent LA restaurants close over the years and we are so grateful to the Azoff family for keeping the tradition alive – including the historic Apple Pan that they also own. On our current December 2022 trip, we decided to buy To Go food for several days to be delivered due to the rainy weather and everything was absolutely fantastic! For a great breakfast, my husband enjoyed his Lox, Eggs and Onions scramble and I loved my Matzo Brei, both better than we can prepare at home. I enjoyed some excellent Cheese Blintzes that were fresh, light and flavorful. We split the terrific Tuna Melt Sandwich accompanied by excellent coleslaw which was classically delicious. The Chicken Matzo Ball Soup featured great flavors and fluffy Matzo balls. The Bagel Chips and Corn Rye Bread with its crispy crust were both outstanding. My husband also loved his stuffed cabbage and the roast brisket dinner with excellent potato latkes. We finished up with Chocolate Rugelach for dessert which were fresh and not overly sweet. Nate ‘n Als has a big menu with many other favorites including fantastic deli sandwiches and so many other items. We didn’t have sufficient time to experience so many other classic deli dishes but will surely do so in the future. We look forward to many more delectable dining and To Go experiences at Nate ‘n Als for years to come. We also urge both locals and visitors to enjoy this special dining LA experience again and again! In fact, after your meal, why not stroll around the nearby streets of Beverly Hills to see this very unique California city, too....

LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!! I used to get my hair done a few blocks away and they ordered from here and offered me a sandwich one day and I declined because (A)... I'm not much of a tuna eater and (B) ... I do not like a lot of meat of any kind in a sandwich and that sandwich needed it's own thickness zip code (C) ... I'm not a deli eater I never ate at one before. So that right there's 3 good reasons why I was not interested. "HOWEVER" when I declined the entire place of about 20+ people all got quiet and they looked at me as if I committed some crime then someone said... "Have you ever had Nate N Al's before?'' I replied "No". Well lets just say I caused somewhat of a mini riot and was completely given the run down on why never to refuse a Nate N Al's " sandwich. UGH ...OK OK ! I said and took the sandwich to shut everyone up basically . At this point you can hear a needle drop as they all were looking at me I was given a Tuna sandwich and I thought this is not gonna end well and they're all gonna send me into a cornfield cause I know I'm not going to like it. So I held my breath and reluctantly bit the sandwich and everything I thought in my A.B.C the 3 reasons why not to just flew out the window and everything I once believed died just like that right there! I mean wow I just bit into the best freaking sandwich I've ever had in my LIFE EVER ... YES MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!! So the next day I went to pick up my mom and told her we're going to have tuna sandwiches at Nate N Al's for lunch and she thought I went crazy and said Tuna sandwiches, Why would I want a tuna sandwich? "Mom this time you have to just go long with me you know I'm a picky eater so it will be good I promise and for good measure I picked up my 20 year old daughter who thought me and my mom both went crazy .Needless to say I ordered all our food 3 tuna sandwich plates and a soon as they bit into theirs they looked at me with big eyes and said OMG THIS IS SO FREAKING GOOD yeah both of them along with saying it was the best sandwich they ever had in their lives. I'm not sure how they do it but you can't replicate that sandwich! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AND TRY THE TUNA IF YOUR NOT ALLERGIC YOU WILL BECOME A FAN! THANKS NATE N AL'S YOU PEOPLE KILLED IT BEST SANDWICH ON THE PLANET EVER MADE...
