Nestled in the heart of Birmingham, Michigan, Tallulah Wine Bar & Bistro is a haven for gastronomes and wine lovers. With its chic and inviting decor, it's no wonder that it's ranked among the top restaurants in the country, including the Top 100 Best Restaurants in USA/Opentable & Forbes 2019, HOUR Detroit 2022, and Top 3 Best Restaurants in Oakland County.
Highly recommended by a colleague, my husband and I finally made it there, and we were not disappointed. As we arrived early for our reservation, we were still promptly seated by the friendly staff, who made us feel welcome from the outset. The interior décor was a perfect balance of rustic and chic, with natural lighting that created an ambiance that was both welcoming and sophisticated.
Our waiter Scott was a standout, with his impressive knowledge of the menu and ability to make recommendations based on our personal preferences. As he went over the cocktail menu, he recommended their Espresso Martini, which I couldn't resist. As an Espresso Martini aficionado, I know the good ones from the "meh" ones, and I can confidently say that Tallulah's version with tequila was a game changer. The tequila perfectly complemented the essence of the espresso, resulting in a beautifully balanced and flavorful drink.
For appetizers, we ordered the Fetta Frito and Nueske's Bacon. The Fetta Frito was elegantly packaged in filo dough, topped with a tomato jam and green olive mousse, and bursting with flavor. The Nueske's Bacon was a showstopper. The thick applewood-smoked bacon was topped with a flavorful escabeche of pickled vegetables, adding a nice acidic contrast to the rich bacon.
For my main course, I had the Prawn Mushroom Risotto. It was a perfectly balanced dish with arborio rice, mushroom, truffle goat cheese, and chili prawns. The truffle flavor was not overpowering. The creamy arborio rice was cooked al dente, and the truffle goat cheese added a nutty, earthy flavor that complemented the chili prawns.
For dessert, we decided to share the Tiramisu. It was presented in a stemless wine glass, with layers of ladyfingers, bailey espresso, mascarpone, vanilla crumble, and cocoa powder. The presentation was elegant and the flavors were perfectly balanced, with the bitterness of the espresso and cocoa powder cutting through the richness of the mascarpone.
The entirety of their staff is sensational. From Scott's extensive knowledge of the menu to Mario Camaj's managing prowess, and Christian's attentive service, everyone was top-notch. Overall, Tallulah Wine Bar & Bistro exceeded our expectations with its impeccable service, exceptional food, and inviting ambiance. It's a definite must-visit for any food lover who appreciates a great...
Read moreDo not patronize this place!
It’s unfortunate that these are owners and restauranteurs that have built their business model and customer service based on their perceived “loaded” patron.
Located in upscale Birmingham, MI they put lipstick on the pig and called it “pretty”. It is not!
Tallulah Wine Bar & Bistro blatantly and openly disrespects certain patrons.
We made a reservation in advance. On the day of I received a phone call asking about my reservation and was told “just so you know there’s an hour and a half limit, will you be done by then?” I responded saying, “I’m not sure”. To which they replied, “well, just try to be done!” I started to cancel but I wanted to see if it was just a fluke. We arrive, service was interesting, we felt rushed. However, the table next to us full of non-melanated folks were nice and comfortable, they were there before we even arrived, so the hour and a half time limit doesn’t apply to everyone. They were servicing them very nicely, they even brought over more chairs for others arriving later.
Did they call and advise everyone prior to their reservation that there is an hour and a half time limit?
All other reviews that have stated they felt rushed, this is true. And stated their food was “basic” or just simply “not good”, this is true. And stated they felt melanated patrons were treated differently vs. the others, this is true.
Patronize this place at your own risk. I will never return and anyone that asks or even looks like they are thinking of considering this restaurant, I will tell them to spend their money at an establishment that truly cares about their customers and have a passion for what they do vs. those that only care about who they think they can make the most money off of with a lackluster menu and...
Read moreGreat place to go for a nice, more upscale dinner. Great food, drinks, atmosphere and fantastic service!
Tallulah has a beautiful patio deck, nicely decorated with flowers and umbrellas for shade. It's on a more secluded street in Birmingham, so you're not constantly seeing passing cars but you're close enough to the park to enjoy the ambience and any live music happening.
I called ahead to see if there were any tables available outside and the hostess was super helpful! She was so pleasant on the phone and in person, that I instantly knew it was going to be a good experience. The patio is first come first serve, but she offered to place a reservation inside and if there's a table that opens when we arrive we can sit there. When we got there a table just cashed out so she offered us the option to sit at the bar and grab a drink while we wait. The bartender was also super helpful and friendly, and I highly suggest trying their cocktail the New Fashion, a very well balanced Old Fashioned drink.
When we sat at our table, everything was nicely set and plated. The servers and our waiter again provided great service! He didn't rush us and was very attentive to our dinner, without constantly checking up on us. I highly suggest ordering a bottle of wine from there, as they have a very good, extensive wine list. The food we ordered was very good, their specials are always a good option, and you can't go wrong with the...
